Really not sure you can focus on colour and challenge racism at the same time. Colour-blindness is the only non-racist attitude. We do the work of the dividers by doing otherwise.

Heart and Hand

No I massively disagree. This was a time when it was incredibly difficult for a black player and I’m proud of Mr Tull and our club who gave him the opportunity.

Donald Mackay

I expect my position is a minority view. I’m coming from an ideological opposition to the Leftist’s weaponisation of ‘whiteness’ and the revival of colour-based racism by the political Left. The only position I can intellectually defend is the one I outlined. I’m not minimising the difficulties Mr Tull faced. I just don’t think this kind of thing is particularly helpful politically today. All these things are political now, that’s the nature of it. I’d rather my football club didn’t play the game. I’m just expressing my frustration with it. Thanks for your response. Edit: for this reason I never complete the Equalities questionnaires simply because they are used to segment and divide us. Everyone, anyone would do for me. Just stop right there and enough with the categories and the identity politics.

Robert White

I agree Donald, that's what MLK said but its also good that trailblazers like Walter Tull can be celebrated, just not for a whole history month which friends tell me is mortifying!

Heart and Hand

You’re coming from a good place Donald. Occasionally but, nice things are just nice things. Not everything needs to be viewed through the prism of a culture war. Two clubs celebrating an inspirational figure - I don’t think there’s much to be gained by overthinking it.

Donald Mackay

When we focus on race or colour we are by definition engaging in the culture war. Whether we like it or not.

Donald Mackay

Anyway, appreciate your responses. I hope to find go to the game and I promise I won’t boo 😉

Alan Murdoch

Well done on the folks that chinned the scumbag doing the Nazi salutes btw .

Alex Downie

David, Thank you for today’s show and with reference to the “Millwall” fan. Have gone to a few Millwall games since returning to the U.K. Like Rangers they also have a Everyone and Anyone campaign. People who behave like that have no place in football grounds and to me Millwall would also condemn their behaviour.

Jayson Moore

Mr Tull is an unsung hero & inspiration in Scotland & England, in football & in life Donald mate. His story should be well known by everyone in Britain across the board - not just Rangers & definitely not just football.

Alex Downie

Cheers David, Millwall are trying to improve their image with a lot of initiatives geared towards community and education. Similar to what Rangers do, try and get along to the Den you will enjoy it😯

Heart and Hand

Yes you’re spot on - I shouldn’t want to kick a problem to another club. I just can’t understand how any British person could do that gesture given WW2.

Alex Downie

Agree David, it’s just embarrassing, and actually quite sad and these guys should know better. Offer to come to a Millwall game stands, will even buy you a ticket,

Kris

Have to laugh at Hibs 😂😂😂😂

Gary Brown

Thanks as ever for the update guys. Walter Tull Trophy A war veteran who paid the ultimate sacrifice, played for both clubs; the biggest in Scotland & one of the biggest in England - Mr Tull must've been a pretty decent player!! Even judging by 21st Century standards, that is more than enough to honour the man with a Trophy in his name for a match between the 2 clubs. The society (its attitudes, behaviours & prejudices etc) in which he played & lived, and which our own family ancestry lived, is incomprehensible to us of this era. But we can only imagine the difficulties he faced. We are recognising / honouring / celebrating, first & foremost, a human being who played for our club and is part of its history.

Blair

David why do you not thank the guys from London anymore at the end of your pods? A miss that

Gordon Macdougall

Thanks. The Walter Tullis story would bering a tear to a glass eye. What a remarkable, brave and inspirational young man and such a tragic loss. A Ranger to be very proud of.

John Walker

What was the gig David I'm intrigued to find out who you and Alan would go and see together.

John Walker

Think my last gig at the barrowland was the cramps 1990 .

John Walker

Definitely . Human fly or garbageman

Tom

Laughing at Hibs, will it ever get old? Nope.

Alan Bradley
