Can’t even get excited about the remaining ties in the CL after the manager basically conceded that we can’t compete with them. 2012 sure done a number on us because the standards we accept now are an embarrassment to Rangers FC. Board are culpable for it all.

Stuart

Passion desire and will to win are basics which as a team we are sadly lacking.

Jimmy Price

Men against boys tonight, unfortunately. But this Rangers team look a shadow of the team that got to a European final last season. Ajax had 75% possession and ran 6km more... tells you all you need to know. We’re not anywhere close to being good enough for the CL. Just now, Napoli 4-1 Liverpool. Looking forward to next week already 🤔

David

Gio OUT! Wilson OUT!

Russell McGhee

Gutless, absolutely gutless. There's a way to lose and that wasn',t it. Not tonight not on Saturday and not ever.

Mark

I can't really remember the CL being much different before 2012 tbh mate.

Paul Kerr

Worse than the performance was the post match interview, that alone should see the manager sacked.

Colin Mathie

No wonder the Feyenoord fans were glad to get shot of him, they must've been awful to watch to. I want him gone i really do.

Gary Shaw

I’m finished with GVB…not doing the basics and having desire comes from the manager…two 4 nils in 3 days and the manner of them is unacceptable…this team with this manager will not win the title…he’s living off of European run that if truth be told, the foundations were already there from the previous management…Pittodrie could end him on Saturday and a win will only paper the cracks

Steven Lees

Haven’t listened yet but if Goldson isn’t discussed I’d be surprised? When did he last have a good 90mins? Likewise Tav so off it, Davies on bench and we play Sands at CH, McLaughlin terrible, Kamara missing again, Tillman a lazy bastard, need I go on about others? Same mistakes same player failures every game. We don’t even look fit now!

Gary Shaw

I thought I had been transported back to the mid 90s with that hot potato style football…..had to agree with Ally,I don’t even know if Ajax are really any good coz we were so bad

Luke Day

Sorry boys, it's a hard pass tonight.

Andrew Stewart

If Gio has just not been backed by the board then I can almost let that off but how can the board not realise it’s only gonna get worse if they don’t provide him some more talent but it’s also on Gio for not getting a tune out of what he has in terms of concentrating and knowing individual tasks

Billy Forrester

If we don’t win on Saturday at pittodrie Gio has to go. Tonight I wasn’t expecting a win however expected some fight and desire, we were are normal passive unaggressive selves, Gio team selection baffling and I’m losing patience with him. Buys a CH and doesn’t play him, LB doesn’t play him yet sticks by the usual culprits. Jury out with him given his SPL away record. That was a lesson tonight and young Leon King now needs to start, his time has come

Gary Shaw

Colak must be the easiest centre forward in history to play against…unless he gets a tap in then he has zero impact on the game….Why not hive Morelos a 45/30 minute run out to get some fitness???

KAD87

I thought sands was one of two to get pass marks. Him and Borna have been our best players in recent weeks.

Thomas Poole

Lack of hunger is alarming. Have to win at weekend or gio has to go.

Steven L

And I quote "To compete in the Champions League you need hundreds of millions" A basic game plan and defensive training is free…

Spoon

Bored to death of the Scott Wright hate, if we honestly feel the need to constantly get on at a guy who is no worse than half a dozen others who came for bigger fees and take home huge wages while contributing significantly less then folks are just looking for a whipping boy. Let’s get the spot light on the untouchables, Kent, Goldson, Kamara etc and that’s before we look at our perma injured charlatans who have all played a handful of games yet are seen as potential saviours, Helander, Hagi being the big ones. We aren’t a CL team so tonight isn’t a surprise. We had Tillman as a world beater after a few games yet he’s been erratic, Lundstrum seems to have taken his song to heart and believes he can now phone it in. I genuinely feel sorry for guys like Sands and Borna who put loads into games but are in a dysfunctional team of guys who get a pass every week. I don’t even blame the manager, I genuinely believe the players get given the message but just don’t follow instructions. I appreciate I’m in the minority, I think the core have given up. We won’t bed in new players when the old guard are garbage and seem to think it’s acceptable.

Steven Lees

Not having a go at Sands, would like to see him in his best position ie midfield instead of Kamara. Sands is covering for Goldson all the time. Agree Barisic one of the very few!

Brian Rae

GVB was happy with the squad and transfer window last week. Tonight, he's just said that we can't compete at this level due to not spending enough. Was this his Scott Parker moment? There's no way he could've been happy with the backing and recruitment this summer. We needed at least 3 players that exceeded the level we already had just to keep slightly ahead of where we were last season, instead, we've become weaker and regressed at an alarming rate. The same faces continue to play no matter how bad they are playing and in turn, the same mistakes and performances happen. We're 6 games into a season and 5 points behind and an already insurmountable goal difference to contend with. In less than 18 months, from a position of strength, we've became a fucking shambles at boardroom level and that stagnation has filtered down into the playing squad IMO. GVB, hasn't been backed but also must take his share of the blame as some of his team set ups and inability to organise our defence and set pieces will probably cost him very soon.

Maca82

Kent, Kamara, Goldson, Tav, Lundstram have visibly chucked it that points to a deeper issue than form or selection. Not one player prepared to dig in and go the extra mile. This ends one way.

Gordon Black

Its not about 'lightweight' vs 'strong'... Ajax players all over the park 'out muscled' gers players with determination.. only a desire to beat them... thats in the gers psyche... Lets not get dragged into 1970s hardmen and battlers... Its 21st century ffs

Steven Lees

100%! Kent, Goldson, Kamara, Lundstram, Tav need to look at themselves. Wright is an Aberdeen player no better so not sure why anyone is surprised by what they get from him?

chris smith

Systemic failure at the club … the manager isnt good enough and neither are many of his players. We have a large squad but it is stuffed full of sick notes, old men and young boys. The board are culpable re: transparency issues and now financing - where is all the money if we have none in the bank? But for me the worst bit is the strategic preparation of the squad and this fantasy ‘model’ which so many have been enamoured with. Celtic have never used this ‘model’ - they bought players for large sums and sold them again when we were out the league and they had no challenge. People are wondering now why we bought Matondo, Davies and Ridvan and are thinking of buying Tilman and Sands … rather than buying fewer players who are specifically required for the team - a goalie, a dominant CB a No.8 and a wide right … the answer is this fixation with the ‘model’ .. rather than build a winning team the board are more interested in playing at player trading to make a profit, flipping players for cash. And the worst thing is, their representative, Ross Wilson if utterly mince at it.

Alan Weir

Well done Andy McGowan - the most straight-talking of the plodders - covering Morelos’ position tonight and at the club generally. He’s been mollycoddled and supported way beyond his actual ability.

Greg

Yet he stuck him on against Celtic, he "deserved" to get on at parkhead, fucking insane that Morelos gets stick after that shit show tonight.

Steve Clark

Gio is done for me.his interview after the game was embarrassing and I think he’s lost the dressing room and once that happens,it’s over

Gordon Millar

Struggled to find 1 fan at the game who had a good word for the manager. There are ways of losing a game that provides positives to build on, no this game or last Saturday for that matter. The manner of these defeats suggests that there are issues with style of play (obvious) but also that the players are either not bought into it or are incapable of executing it. Either way, we are in danger of spiralling out of control.....the season is in serious danger unless we play to the strengths of our team.and get the players playing with belief.....This manager is on borrowed time or worse he has the backing of a board that are losing the support ( the shit show that was the ticket collection is a story for another day). Spoiled a good trip.

Spoon

Tend to agree bar one thing Andy said, Colak is third choice ? Currently he’s first choice and we need to stop pretending guys like Roofe or Morelos can be trusted, one is never fit and the other is unable to stay focused, Colak like others is played down while sentimentality clouds judgement on other players. Helander still gets spoken about as one of the best defenders at the club and he’s really done the square root of fuck all but cost us millions. We need to understand that our team is full of people who weren’t good enough for a better team, we buy older guys who have issues while our rivals are buying predominantly younger hungry guys to develop.

William Hughes

We didn't get near them tonight. Not a heavy challenge from us all night just to slow it down and break up play. I'm tearing my hair out at the zonal marking set up - it's not worth a fuck. We put ourselves up against it from the beginning. Also, personally prefer men on posts defending corners. We need to toughen up and get in among it.

james whyte

Taking £4.99 out my account at HT tonight for the Relentless film on RTV sums up our Club right now. A Shambles from top to bottom.

Andrew Hind

After watching Napoli thrash Liverpool Christ knows what they will do to us next week, we will be lucky to score a goal in this group, surely these players have at least got some professional pride left ....have they?

Alan Weir

I think Morelos getting on at Parkhead is symptomatic of Gio rather losing the plot when the going gets really tough. Down 3-0 at halftime twice, he seems to have a "try anything" approach where all logic is lost. The sub decisions tonight seemed to be trying to keep the score down.

Robert glen

Andy is spot on concerning Morelos unprofessional and unworthy of a Rangers jersey

Robert glen

My fear is even if we win saturday all we are doing is kicking the can down the rd with Gio

CJT

Not sure any of us expect to 'compete' financially with most teams at this level so by the same token are unlikely to have the quality in depth to come out top over the course of the whole CL group campaign. What we can do though is more than match these guys for effort and commitment. Do that and set-up well and you have a chance in one off games. Enough points from these and you might get somewhere near qualification or EL when it shakes out. Past 2 games we haven't had any of that effort and commitment. Thstvis the one thing I can't take from a Rangers team. I get why some say it os the managers job to engender that but the core group have come up with performances like that under the previous manager as well. We needed to gut that team in the summer but have been treading water. Everyone funding and managing recruitment and contract management needs to look at themselves. Pressure will reach the point where the outcome is inevitable should results not improve starting Saturday. I'd be disappointed at that but would now understand it. What i don't know is where we go from there if as suggested we can't afford the level of recruitment required for any new management team. The current sacred cows like Kent, Tav and Goldson have always had these performances in them. Added to that now seems a lethargy that comes from familiarity. Big job for Gio or replacement if it goes that way.

Alan Weir

People often talk about "a good combination of youth and experience". We seem to have a bad combination of youth who aren't yet ready for high pressured games (Tillman, Matondo and some of the B team lads) and experienced guys who are, frankly, past it (Davis, Jack, McGregor) or have become stale at the club (Kent, Goldson, Kamara). I think a genuine transition period is needed, but I don't think that is something Scottish football allows or Rangers supporters would tolerate.

Gordon Black

Yes... Not physically... You cant argue that Kudus for Ajax is physically stronger that Tav... but when they came face-to-face it looked like men against boys..

Gordon Black

That was replicated all over the park... I cant pick out one rangers player rhat came close to winning their individual battle... and thats also undetstanding that they may be a gulf in ability..

Mark Henderson

Unusually downbeat and negative Pod, granted not without reason, but disappointing to hear. We must stand firm and get through the next few games. The narrative now seems to be that this was almost expected but I must have missed these prescient experts on previous Pods. We’re all in the same team and must stick together

Doug Young

Couldn't have said it better myself. Wright and Borna always in the firing line while others have been far worse and far more culpable. I'd be fascinated to see stats on how often Kent loses the ball and sets up an opposition attack. Must be several times a game.

William Gardiner

Gio is a decent reasonable guy with a great cv in football. His lack of passion and fight when things are tough really concerns me. He is calm and laid back which can be an asset but it is becoming a hinderance. He does seem to understand the rancid hatred of our club. His philosophy seems to be technical over physical. But in Scotland you have to win the battle, before you start to play football.

William Gardiner

Just read he does NOT understand or acknowledge the hatred of our club and fight back against it. He must wise up.

Mark Boyd

They signed bassey from us. What’s his biggest strength if not his physicality? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cameron Bell

Feel free to listen to Saturdays postmatch, Mondays flagship. No one wants this to be happening, but we can’t deny what’s in front of us.

Douglas McIntyre

Gio continued to play Alfredo last season when he’d been clutching his leg for weeks eventually resulting in his long term injury. Turns out that Gio has been doing the same with Tav. If he’s that deluded to play him on Saturday injured should we be surprised the treatment table’s creaking?

Bigticket

Ajax is not a step-up from the Dortmund team we destroyed away from home in February. The difference is this Rangers team is being led by a coaching team who have decided to double down on poor decisions that are costing us goals. Until we can stop conceding needless goals, the confidence has no chance to grow and this season could be over by this time next week. Manager's intransigence is sabotaging our season.

Rod Murray

Went to bed at 2-0 ( I’m in WA so it was around 0130), had enough. There’s just no fun watching Rangers just now!

Gary Shaw

This team are so disjointed physically and mentally….I tend to agree with Andy about Morelos but deep down he knows himself that he’s still the number 1 striker at the club so he has us over a barrel….but I do think having a rant towards Morelos is just burying your head in the sand to the real problems we have

Gary Shaw

Fans might not like to hear this but I’m willing to give Tav a break for now….he’s played non stop for 7 seasons bar a 6 week lay off in the 55 season….I think it’s quite clear from the start of the season he’s been playing with some sort of niggle….and before people say he shouldn’t be playing then,we cry for leaders and bravery and go on about Gough,Butcher,Ferguson etc playing through the pain barrier and I think as Captain,Tav is trying to do the same thing

Steven

I don't see any reason why King can't come into the back 4 and push sands into midfield. Ajax had a defence where the oldest was 22 at one point and young was 19.

Alastair McGeoch

Results in Europe last season papered over the cracks of both the board and their succession of poor decisions (Australia, repeated ticket fiascos, repeated travel partner fiascos) and Gio turning a 7 point lead into a 4 point deficit with his poor old firm and away record. His domestic record was laid bare again on Saturday and we are now at a level in Europe that’s probably a bit above us. It’s beginning to look like he has lost the dressing room

Kev Armstrong

I don’t think being put on in a game we are 3-0 down is a prize. Should have used it to get mins in his leg as if colak gets injured alfie is next up

Tamus

Too many imposters in our team at the moment

Tamus

TAVERNIER, BIG Stauner, Kent, Kamara Fat Alfie. If you dont want to be a Ranger anymore, Kindly Fuqoff right now

David Rome

They never tried a leg guys. They ve chucked it. Ajax, very good team but they aren’t guardiolas Barcelona. We ve competed against teams just as good and came out on top. We turned up waiting on a scudding. They aren’t running, showing no right whatsoever. They ve chucked it guys. It’s sickening

Sgems90

Results last season in Europe have papered over the cracks of GVB and his coaching staff. We look like a badly coached team now. Massive gulf in class, between us and Ajax, however effort and fitness cost nothing, we didn’t even compete in terms of running. It was pathetic. I wanted GVB in when Gerrard left, but its been an epic fail. He’s serving up turgid football game after game.

Dougie Grant

Absolute shite. The only player to get passmarks was Barisic the rest all 2 out of 10s.2 4-0 horsings in a row is not acceptable.

Bob Taylor

Only one with pass marks was king. We went undefeated in the league with few goals conceded and a Europa final, then he decides to switch to zonal? Is he off his nut? Entirely on the manager. I'm sorry but he needs to go.

Laura McCrimmon

Well said, all this talk that he bought a ch and lb but not playing them who is to say he even wanted them. I'm struggling with the board and Ross Wilson at the moment and then even more so with the players, GIO is the last on my list to be annoyed at and I am.annoyed at him, don't think he gets off scot free. However many of the old guard have previous for this and seriously have a mentality issue and have let us down in the past. 55 was a one off and our run in Europe again gives them a different focus I feel they just switch off in the league and now it would appear scared of the CL. Those players last night couldn't pass 5 yards to each other, goldson continually shrinks at corners, jumps with eyes shuts and makes himself smaller when ball coming at him same for kamara, no charging down balls let's flick a leg out or turn our backs!! Gio tho does make decisions that baffle me and his tactics aren't always right but I will say again he doesn't say to them go out and just don't do anything. All this gio out talk for me is annoying as who do we get in to solve it when the same players are there and not to even mention the payoff it would cost us and on the evidence of lack of recruitment is the money actually there! These 2 defeats are not just down to him, Gerrard wanted out when he saw recruitment wasn't what it should be and here we are again the same thing happening I think...gio will say he's relaxed with the squad as coming out and saying he ain't solves nothing. Overall it's a complete and utter shambles and it must get better quick as football ain't a kind sport and a defeat may see gio lose his job but the players for me are selling us short by not showing any heart or desire and that comes from within.

Gavin Sullivan

The first thing that needs to change is Ross Wilson. For me, recruitment has been horrendous, Kent is awful, let's be real here. He hasn't kicked his arse for months and I include large parts if last season as well. Should've been replaced. Kamara looks every bit like a £50k player right not and bar the odd good performance has been missing since 55. Tavs, I love him, scored so many important goals, isn't a captain, isn't a leader and for that 3rd goal epitomised everything that is wrong with us as a team right now, weak, tired, scared. Also, no back up, I think Devine looks decent but for me, still a few years away to be a consistent member of the team. Goal keeper, I'd rather see McCrorie play than McLaughlan. Might as well let McRorie go if he isn't going to feature, wasting the boy. I think David made an excellent point on the flag ship during the week, I'd much rather see us lose the league by going through a transition period bleeding in players like McCann, King, Lowry than continue with players that tbh, need to be moved on. Rant over.... until next time 😭

Nick Reilly

Disagree with Andy about the Morelos comments. Gio came out & said his attitude was improved & he was over the issue.

Revan1872

I agree, also if we've had enough of him then he shouldn't have been on the bench and should have been sold last month

Alan Keegan

Well done guys. Not an easy job.

8luenose1872

It's pretty clear Gio is too stubborn and not the manager to take us forward, Feyenoord fans warned us that he was too defensive and negative and they also complained about the horseshoe play.

Pedro

Great pod

Gary Brown

Well done on stepping up to do this pod in these circumstances, thanks guys.👍
