I started going to Ibrox in 1960. Always assumed terracing was ash with wooden stepping. Around 63/64 the terracing was concreted. The track around the park was used for the annual Rangers Sports, pre-seaon, in August. Many top British and international athletes appeared every year. Scot, Eric Liddell of Chariots of Fire fame won a sprint in 1924. I loved going every year. The weather always seemed beautiful. Ah, nostalgia!

Re: Madrid, I was doing my Masters at a local university so lived there for a year. I also seen a 17yo guy called Torres play for Atletico Madrid in the old Caulderòn stadium, brilliant, and a young Sammy Etoo score a great hat-trick for Mallorca in a 5-1 pumping of Real in the Bernabeu - white hankies were out that night! Mind coming back through the city after football training one night with my orange rangers too on and there being loadsa mhanky mhob en-route to Seville; subway stunk for weeks. Yuck.

Simon

You need to get that Mark boy on to tell his stories.

Enjoyed the pod. Thank you, Hoggy and Cammy. Interesting reminiscence about the week from hell in August 1994. I remember the media fawning over that lot as if they were Real Madrid, yet they finished 18 points behind us and only won 11 league matches. As Hoggy pointed out, our own form was very poor, only 20 wins out of 36, nearly as bad as the previous season (22 out of 44). People who see the 9 in a row period through rosy tinted specs should remember that the form which won us the league in those days would often see us a distant 2nd nowadays. Basile Boli’s notorious “lost in translation” interview brought home to me the truth that our club, far from being a model of professionalism, was in fact an amateurish, outdated shambles in many respects. On Heart and Sand yesterday Shane, Rob and Andy were lamenting the current state of the club. As the overlord would say, it’s grading on a curve!

Cheers for reading out the story of the lost bags and I hope it gave everyone a chuckle. Be more than happy to jump on a show and go through my other mishaps!

Great pod and I particularly enjoyed memories of Ray Wilkins last game for us versus Dunfermline as it was also my first game! Having just turned 6 years old my memories of that day are limited but I do remember feeling equally terrified and excited by the eruption of noise from the crowd at each of the goals.

Superb pod guys enjoyed listening to the stories. Great to hear Robert Stores mentioned. I left Glasgow for Scarborough when I was 6 in 1972 and my mum worked there in the last 60’s through to us moving. Some happy memories there!!

Haha certainly felt like a jinx after my first game altho hearts did seem to give us a hard game now and then back in the 90s.
