Adam and Ally sat down with Rangers newest First Team Coach Dr Ceri Bowley who joined the club from City Football Group in August.

Ceri brings professional experience in Sports Psychology and hands-on experience in high-performing academy and first-team environments.

As reported on the Rangers website, Ceri also led the creation of, and implemented, the ‘City Football Methodology’ which is now in place across all of their clubs and is applied in coaching, sport science, performance analysis and talent identification and recruitment, with a focus on individual player and team development.

Topics discussed include:

  • Ceri's background in football and the importance of education
  • His experience implementing above methodologies as Head of Coaching Support at City Football Group
  • His role at Rangers and what he hopes to add to the club

Does football still involve a round ball and scoring in a goal v 11 players? Just checking. I don't doubt this guy's academic chops but I have to question what I see on the park. No definite style of play. Boring. Crumble when scored against. These factors would indicate the pyschobabble and analytics are pish. Football is the entertainment business. Sometimes, just sometimes, you need to put the ball in the net and be a winner. Imagine being a 25 year old footballer from the scheme and listening to this. Football at any level is a game of aggression, confidence and passion. That's what bridges technical 'levels'.

I found this a hard listen. Couldn't imagine listening to him all day.

The backwards pass is sometimes the most important pass said Pep , great insight and that did make me reflect. Well done Adam & Ally for a great interview with Ceri Bowley.

Great interview and guy comes across as knowing what he's talking about. Makes you wonder why we aren't seeing it on the park.

Brilliant interview. Great insight and not the thought process behind development. Gio should absolutely do one of these to get his ideas about football and what he looks for in a player and all round outlook on the game. Would let us get to know him a bit better and would help with some of the negativity surrounding him.

Really good interview & enjoyable to hear what Ceri had to say. Job well done Adam & Ally. Interesting to hear the take on his thoughts of the Technical Director role and compare to Ross Wilsons take on it & how his current role matches what Ceri is looking to move towards in the future. The coaching aspects & pathways at the City group is something that you'd imagine we should have in place under Wilson and be good to know how we look at these things as a club (obviously a smaller scale of coaching pathways due to only being the one club & not part of a larger group) and what we do learn from knowledge & ideas from what the like of Ceri Bowley has brought with him.

Good interview guys! Although I do have to wonder about how much input guys like Ceri and Dave Vos have on our setup when you look at the absolute dross we serve up most weeks

I really enjoyed that; Ceri came across very well and was very knowledgeable about the theoretical side of the game. The fact that City group hired him to develop their footballing model indicates that he is highly thought of in the game. One of the key points for me was it can take a while for changes to have any visible impact on play. I think we have to give him the benefit of the doubt for a few more months. I also thought was interesting his long-term goal is to be a technical director. Maybe he could replace Ross Wilson. He spoke well about recruitment and about having to respect and understand the footballing culture of a Country and Club

Sadly he reminded me of Andy Roxburgh. Certainly talks a good game but, forgive me I ‘m an auld yin, “show me your medals.”

Very enjoyable insight to hear behind the scenes

That was a really interesting listen, thanks Adam & Ally. Ceri is exceptionally knowledgeable & experienced at a supreme level with Man City. Pretty much everyone needs to listen to what he has to say about the problems we (& City) face re the regular low blocking, non playing opponents.

Wow. That interview was 4 times longer than the Rangers TV interview and 10 times more interesting. Well done guys and many thanks to Ceri for being so generous with his time and explanations

Ceri joins the Coaching staff a couple months ago and after Pre Season. Rangers look lack luster as well as looking like they've went backwards. Is his Coaching techniques not working or is his ideas conflicting with what GIO and his original team are trying to do?

Shaun Watson

I feel inspired listening to Dr Ceri talking about his career. Although i couldn't help picturing Roy Kent every time Ceri starting talking lol. Great interview guys, some good questions got asked.
