David, Caroline and Colin look back on a dull game in Motherwell and ask about the lack of a discernible style in Rangers play. They also look ahead to the cup game with Dundee and which players they'd like to see come in for a start.

Can’t believe the criticism of Borna, I don’t know how many times he looked for a forward pass and there was nothing on due to the lack of movement up front. Of course he’s going to ‘play safe’ if he was punting the ball forward just to loose possession he would receive even worse criticism.

Gregg

This has been a theme of the season - lack of movement ahead of the back four - leading to the horseshoe. Was noticeable in the home game vs Ross county and Ajax showed us how it should be done, they were perpetual motion. Even after passing the ball they were on the move

Borna is given few options for the ball forward Kent is frequently hiding

Andrew Finlayson

We knew about this with Mcgregor, he should not be the #1. If Mclaughlin had conceded the goals Mcgregor had in the previous 2 & the one against Dundee Utd he would’ve got killed off fans. Mclaughlin got dropped for less than what Mcgregor did last season in the league 100%. I would love to see McCrorie given a shot though.

Colin Ferguson

When watching the game on telly, do you no wish, you could turn off the commentary but keep the atmosphere of the game on... I think in this day and age there should be a button for that!!

Midfield. Pedestrian and lacklustre. Address that, win the league

With regards to Borna…. At the start of the season he was playing amazing, arguably one of our best performers. This was when Lawrence was there as an out-ball for him as he would drop in between the line and offer himself. Colak naturally pulls to the the right hand side when you watch him play and makes him a harder target to hit for Borna. Ryan Kent has been absolutely shocking and isn’t there for Borna for a pass so he naturally has to turn back to keep possession. I would rather Borna done this and keep possession rather than an aimless punt which to me seems like his only other option at the moment. Not sure if anybody else has noticed the above at matches and I feel that Borna is being used as a scapegoat as he is an easy target with his previous drops in performance.

Christopher Fair

Also in regards to not expecting to win at the piggery? If you are a Rangers player and don’t expect to win at that midden you shouldn’t be wearing the shirt. Both players and fans should be going into every single game in Scotland expecting to win.

Greg

Borna is being hung out to dry by Kent atm, if its not being given the ball after making the overlap it's being left exposed at the back. Also worth noting the noise around barasic is far bigger online, the away end were singing his name.

I get the feeling we need midfielders. Lacklustre would be an understatement but looking at Tav can't lead to any other conclusion that we need an experienced right ful-lback or cover but most of all for me we need a keeper. That above all else was the summer failing. Bang on to say we're still in this league though. Lawrence brings dynamism and a real goal threat that'll lift the rest I think. Tillman will be better and might see Lowry and a few others back thatll make us a more positive outfit. Just need to be there or there abouts by the world Cup. Cut loses on Kent though. We can't have every positive opportunity on that side bogged down in his now long running fugue. The fact that mob used to scared if him is not a resdon to persist with him this long. Other guys are right Borna has his issues but is being hung out as the sacrificial lamb for this guy.

Re: Tillmans goal, Tierney (I think) has an attempt to pull him when he’s about 30 yards out, but can’t get near him.

The observation about having a straightforward shape and getting the ball to the talented players… this does feel like Rangers circa 1994-1995 at the moment. Solid, functional, more likely to win a game than lose it but heavily dependent upon the talent to deliver every week or we are toiling.

Nikky Cairney

Not having the chat that Arfield has been decent for us and was poor on Sunday because it was his 3rd game. He’s been appalling all season for me and should be nowhere near the starting 11. He can be effective coming off the bench. His goal against Liverpool was great but he was poor overall. Same as Hearts and St Mirren at home. His passing is terrible.

Russ

Surprised people disagree with the Barisic discourse, I thought it was spot on. Not sure if it was Martyn who said if you want a full back to swing crosses in then Barisic is fine but apart from that he's been okay. I just think Gio had to play him at the start of the season instead of having to bed in Ridvan for the do or die ucl ties and has made a rod for his own back ever since.

Mark

On the LB position, it is such a shame that Jan Bartram didn't work-out. He was a very talented player.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the flagship show David, Colin & Caroline. 3 points, away. A damn sight better than playing well and getting a draw or playing great and getting beat. The team were progressing in the last 2 league games v Hearts & St Mirren, playing quicker and with more freedom. And everyone's tails were wagging about how enjoyable those 2 games were! The boys did it then so can do it again. The sheer effort to compete with LFC (not starting XI) for 60 mins cannot be ignored. LFC then hit the nitro button and we, couldn't keep up and blew up, in more ways than one. Physical, mental & psychological fatigue. Last season in these circumstances there is every danger M'well away would've been dropped points - under both managers. But down, with injuries and the anger of most fans directed at them our lads went and got the job done. Winning these type of games win Championships. Both of Walter Smith's tenures as gaffer were littered with performances like this.

Tommy

Good discussion lads. Don’t agree with Colin’s take about resting players in Europe. I don’t think we could handle another humiliation, Napoli are destroying better teams than us. Have to be set up for damage limitation there. I think there’s also a good discussion to be had on the ‘undefined style’ of the team versus the tactical flexibility which Gio has displayed (and Gerrard didn’t). Is an ethos or style more important than flexibility? I’m not excusing the passive performances. We chortle at how Celtic’s ethos is the same whether it’s Ross County or Real Madrid. Pragmatism has a place so are we maybe swayed by the trend of having an ethos? I’m not sure but there’s a conversation there to be had.

Heart and Hand

I think I like a manager who has an overall philosophy but is confident enough in himself to be able to alter as and when needed. But that’s nirvana I’m after really isn’t it? 😀

Nathan

Listening to this belatedly after the Dundee game - doesn't matter.
