What's really worrying me the most is Beale appears to be suffering with Gios disease. He doesn't appear to be learning from his mistakes,

chris smith

Appropriate tune if ever there was one … Sunday really, really, really wasnt acceptable at any level and although Beale may claim to understand, he should be reminded - as gently and politely as necessary - that this kind of ‘performance’ from both him and the team is really not on

Stuart McNiven

- Hampden reaction - B team lose - RWT lose to them Plus I've got a hangover, toothache and it's bastarding Monday!

Norm

You know fine what you'll get from GK & JL, you can sub Raskin or Cantwell if/when they tire. The game might have been in a different place at that stage but we'll never know now.

Paul

I didn't want Beale because I thought he'd be too loyal to Gerrard's players, who had let us down far too often. He was yesterday. Also, he keeps saying "It's not a rebuild, but a revamp/refresh," which is very concerning. If he truly believes that, he won't be here for long.

Richard Baird

Lundstram and Kamara were really poor and they had 2 tap ins from inside our 6 yard box. We have lost similar goals in previous games. Lessons not learned

Norm

Imagine Tavernier telling anyone to look in the mirror ffs.

Graeme Glennie

Any patience I had left has gone with a huge part of this squad. I could name the players but I'm sure you are all aware who I mean. And going by what I see on social media, all of our support have aswell. Next Ibrox visit will be poison and they only have themselves to blame for it. They can go anytime they like.

Tommy

I can't help feel that Beale says all the right things we want to hear but has a serial loser vibe. If he backs 80% of this squad then we can expect nothing in return. I'm fed up with these players.

Doug Young

How many goals do we concede from balls across the box not being cut out. And mostly from the left? It's not rocket science. And how many times do our forward movements break down on Kent? Many. Same old same old same.

Joe Baxter

Beale fucked it up big style , simple . you say Kamara is a passenger which I agree but what about Kent , fed up waiting for him to turn up , most of the first team are passengers waiting for their team mates to do the job for them .

dotty 84

New front line should be our biggest priority this summer from recruitment. Hopefully Cooper comes in for Helander and possibly the RB from Anderlecht comes in to challenge and takeover Tav and snag a Keeper possibly Fenerbahce one, all 3 of those are OOC. Spend the money on the front 3. Sell Kamara

dotty 84

By left you mean oppo left? Because Tav and Goldson concede a hell of alot and its funny how much grief Borna gets.

Joe Baxter

Re b team and women team time they were held to professional standards it is just a pastime to them , womens manager is a joke

Neil Wilson

The squad needs that refresh. We've improved against the other sides in the league, but consistently winning those big games hasn't changed. I'm confident that Beale will make the necessary decisions to update the side, adding quality and energy across the team. Congratulations on selling out NEH. I didn't think you had anything to worry about. I can see you getting to the stage of running NEH several times a year.

Neil Johnston

I can't argue with you David, an end of an era that threatened to be a very successful for large parts but ultimately failure consumes the last 5 years which is hard to take as progress was made on many fronts. The players should be in the firing line with this summer window coming up. I digress slightly here but I heard rumours of the players not having Gio weeks into his tenure and it really irks me to think the board hired him and didn't realise he needed to uproot the squad. He was clearly fighting against squad harmony and the 'that's not how Gerrard and co done it' from day one. Fast forward to now, surely we give Beale the time and patience to start a build in his image. As painful as that process sounds. If not, why not? I get the board have spent to get us in a position to compete but it really does need to be asked if they have the pockets and energy to push again because at Rangers that need to push is always there.

KennyY

No harm to Tav but I’m sick of the constant excuses and admission of unacceptable performances. There’s a big list of players we need to move on and most of them won’t result in us getting a lot of money. I have trust in Beale but he needs the backing of the board. Can’t think straight today. These performances really hurt.

Doug Young

Yes, sorry our right and that was my (badly-made) point- Borna gets pelters but he's been out-performing Tav all season in my opinion. Him and Davies are much more solid to my mind.

Doug Young

Weirdly, I'm not feeling that bad (working from home helps) but I honestly 100% expected that we would revert to type, not have the bite and shit the bed timidly. It's just, as David said, far too regular to be a surprise any more.

Neil 55

The starting line up had 7 player's from 2019. Our recruitment has been shocking.Far to many players getting injured or just not up to the task.

CJT

Cold light of day is bringing no new perspective. It just feels a big result. I see that the scales have fallen from so many peoples eyes and some are finally looking at where we are raw and unencumbered by 'aye but 55' or 'aye but he was good against X team 4 weels ago' nonsense. Anyway what I see is a core group of serial losers. Not for the first time but I'm constantly pulled back from that by a run of results or brief glimpse of what they could be if they had the mentality to get there . Not sure that'll happen again though. I see 55 as a wonderful achievement but now also in retrospect a thrown away treble and last season as a series of great European nights but a league title chucked away (and potentially another treble but for that shitshow against Hibs). A long way to go before I believe the usual suspects can ever deliver what we need. Nice guys though they may be.

Craig Newton

We won the league, the season after we got to a European final & won the Scottish cup. Are we just pissed off at getting beat aff they cvnts!?

stefan strzelecki

An essential listen for me today. I’m incapable of redirecting my focus from Rangers after that performance. The sight of the captain remonstrating with the supporters to up the singing, when he was constantly leaving acres of space , bottling it to challenge maeda , infuriated the supporters beside me. I note that Beale has demanded self reflection from the group, then we hear the captain reiterate the players need to “look in the mirror”. He is just using metaphor, he doesn’t identify that he is part of the problem . I think most people had some reservations regarding the appointment of Beale. Looks like a bulldozer is required to that entire squad.

Colin McL.

I’m exhausted listening to players/managers telling us what is expected at Rangers, the necessity of winning… and yet delivering so little. All talk.

David

Spot on with everything you said in your assessment, David

Jamie Gourlay

After 55, that was the time to claim back our dominance and start winning trophies every season. We seem miles away from it. To be fair the league form has been very good since MB arrived, but our opposition are at a good a standard results wise that there are no margins. Big changes in mentality for games against them are needed otherwise we will be playing 2nd best for many years to come and that is a sickening thought.

stuart wood

Gerrads first OF game - we sat off them and got punished Gios first OF game - we sat off them and got punished Beale got off to a better start but then reverted to giving them way too much respect. They really are not that good, dont cope with being pressed and are shakey at the back. Its like our managers buy into their hype.

John Jamieson

A day removed I struggle to believe anything is going to change until beale guts this team and brings in new players in. Honestly not bothered I’d kent or morelos leave at this point same players loses these games and no point giving them big money just to lose more big games and more trophies to that lost. Big changes needed in the summer otherwise we will never get over this loser mentality

Tamus

Captain Calamity - next years team photos the tims will have 3 trophies and we will be sitting with Tavernier's Hall of Fame award infront of our Squad - and lots of his fan boys will still be content

Tamus

We lost a European final after going a goal up - serial losers

Gareth Williams

Ridvan for Barasic, Devine for Tav, Keep Goldson/Davies, Keep midfielders of Jack/Cantwell/Hagi/Raskin - chase the rest, Forwards - All need replaced - totally shot shy.

Tamus

20 goals since I've come back - that's 15 games - it's not really a lot of goals is it Mick

Rod

Stat on FF, we have conceded the 1st goal 23 times this season. Twenty Three. How can we expect to win anything carrying on like that.

CRAIG CASSELLS

We really have to ditch the romantacism with 55 and move on. This side really are the tried and failed, one domestic cup success from nine since SG arrived in 2018. The big concern yesterday was the mess our manager made, not just with his starting 11 but also his refusal to make changes that it appears were so apparent to all but him. The Beale love in is over, he now has to earn our trust all over again after such calamity yesterday.

George Harrison

It’s the manner of the defeat, we were lucky to only lose 2-1. Errors all over the pitch, panic every time we were pressed, strange team selection / tactics … just not good enough.

Niall MacKay

You could highlight plenty yesterday to demonstrate your points, but the thing that plays out over and over again in my head is that with a few minutes to go we had throw ins in good attacking positions that ended up with Barisic on the half turn towards his own goal on his weaker foot. I honestly don't know how to describe my feelings about that. Our instinct wasn't to go forward and try and create a chance but to reset and build again. We've conceded several goals against Celtic through switching off at quick set pieces, we don't even think to try and attack from them. Breaks my heart but there is so much wrong at my club.

George Harrison

Agreed, wholesale changes required, starting with Morelos. Fair play to him for getting the goal, but what’s the point in having pace down the flanks when the man in the middle looks as though he’s towing a caravan. The Alfie of a few years back has gone, never to be seen again, let’s move on !

Alan Cowan

Gareth I've been calling out our very suspect Captain for all of this season. I've taken lots of you know what on social media for months. Good to see that he's not Teflon coated as most serm to think. As David has said, lots of players living off credit from 55 and Europe, but now serm to be sadly lacking, which is to be honest is to be expected. Only very few players stay beyond a few years as they get stale and the majority of yesterday fall into the stale category. We know who they are but some really need to see by loyalty as call them out.

Ross Mcfarlane

Tav is the sacred cow who should have been sacrificed long ago. He’s a serial loser. He’d have been long gone if he wasn’t captain (a position he should never have held).

David Gardner

In my opinion - I don’t have an issue with the manager picking any line up but he has to be brave enough to change it when it’s not working especially in a cup final. Kamara and Lunny needed to be hooked after 30mins yesterday and he let them get to an hour before making the call - that was the criminal part. Finals are for winning, that’s all we want. I Tillman over cantwell I understand that decision more than the kamara over Raskin but Tillman was still in and out of the game as he didn’t look 100%. We’ve still got two cups to play for and we can’t give up in either. I’m a general note - terrible weekend for the club but major concerns over the management of the woman’s team, it’s an area we’ve invested heavily in and the manager is t delivering - 3 seasons and only 1 league tittle is sackable.

Mark Harvey

Still angry after yesterday. The lack of desire was apparent. This Celtic side won't give you a win without having to earn it. I wonder if internally there was over confidence and Sakala was saying what most of them felt?

David Campbell

Rangers football club the only thing in the world that could cause this amount of heartache and we keep going back for more. Feeling rather low today but we go again Saturday💙

Leslie White

David along with other Podders will pertinent questions be asked at the press conference Thursday? re team set up, players and my total bug bear, lack of distant shooting!

Gregg

I bet it’s not poison - social media isn’t real life or reflective of society. A cesspit some might say.

Piggott

Alot of people had lundstram in there team, I never and I wouldn't going forward he has been poor most of the season

Spoon

Great song, shite weekend. I keep hearing how intelligent Beale is but his media stuff is just rambling drivel, he contradicts what he says in pressers with selections constantly and people are seeing a core group ignore another manager. Kamara is no different from Kent, Goldson, Sakala and lots of others who are defended constantly by the manager (and some supporters) despite being deeply flawed players. I am genuinely at a loss as to why people will defend Kent who rarely shows up in games with any meaningful output but slate Morelos for exactly the same. Beale tells us this squad isn’t as broken as people think, I disagree and if he thinks that he’s not the football guru people think. He should be going through them not telling us they are great lads or he’s known them for they have been kids. He’s far far to wedded to his old team. I go back to the age old problem, this team does not score enough goals. We have a shot shy overly chaotic front line that seems to do anything it wants to but isn’t expected to score very many. Anyone who thinks for £7 million and a large wage week in week out we couldn’t have got better than Kent is delusional. Build a team from Raskin, Tillman and Colak or any other striker type that can play more games than he sits on the bench and can score. Colak who was getting service and scoring is now being thrown on when we are set up to play to Morelos and is being wasted. A really modern responsive manager would have identified the issues we have, Beale is one week telling us we don’t have issues and the next this core group can kick on when we have seen the same guys do the same things for years now. The core is rotten.

aldo adens

Manager made a rip roaring mess of it. In all our games under beale can anyone tell me what pattern of play we try and play. Thats both games against them he has cost us for me one at new year was sands getting brought on and yesterday was having 3 players in midfield 2 of them just returing from injury and 1 that has not been botherd for best part of 18 months. Last time i had feeling seeing the team to play them was when we started defoe up top against them after seeing raskin on bench i said to my nephew this is gawna come back and cost us. They got in behind us to easy and to regular yesterday and GK/JL both made mcgregor look like pirlo with the amount of space we gifted him. Cant get why he takes alfie off while we are chasing a goal and changes like for like. Kamara i have never been on the hype train that a lot of fans have since we got him 7 out of 10 games for me he shows why he was a dundee player before we got him. They bring on abada out wide who can cause damage and we bring on wright that says it all really.

William Alston

I understand beales point that whatever the result yesterday we would still have the same issues to deal with today. Problem is it seemed self inflicted with that starting line up and approach, we still had the capability to win that game and threw it away. On the work to do going forward, I am concerned about beales comments that it's a refresh not a rebuild, if he or if he has been told that is what is happening from above I think we could be in for another disappointing summer. I can't stop thinking about that John Bennett interview earlier on the season and wonder if that attitude still prevails in the boardroom now even after seeing what is in front of them.

Gregg

Raskin aside - Beale picked the team I would have pre kick off. Cantwell has looked decent so far but he’s either taking the place of sakala (who caused them loads of bother in last game) or Tillman (who lost folk wanted to be fit for the game). The most worrying aspect for me was the lack of bravery early on - constantly shelling the ball forward. That said I think a lot of the comments above are pretty ott - lots of staunch points

Mr J K Murray

only saw the 1st half via tv & we looked asleep, some players have been at the wicket too long ,there is no chance of a result. No possessive curiosity up front always break away football, der lullaby of later in defense football & then end up being told the correct way to eat an avacardo after being beat by limp buddy football, it has become expected & it is not acceptable, not asking for squash football just management of a final, cannot manage things agian

James McConnachie

This team is mental jelly. Whenever I mention Tav I get a pile on. He’s the Captain of Rangers but I never feel he’ll drag us out the mire. We had to go into extra time to beat Hearts in the SC ffs. I had no expectations we’d win because this team in a team of serial losers. They’ve one covid league and a Scottish Cup. Winning is all that matters. Winners are all that matter. We don’t have winners. We’ve watched Scottish players waltz out of Scotland without a query. All this pish about them not being good enough. Worse than Kamara. The team has no identity other than Sunday. It finds ways of losing.

James McConnachie

And…Roofe can get to f**k. He’s made out of the same stuff as those wee fizzy flying saucers you used to get in 10p mixtures.

adam houston

If the manager doesn't get the act together he will be away by Xmas this is becoming a joke now

Rod

This idea that 2 players who have been at the club for a month and both played multiple 1st team games are not ready to play against celtic is absolute nonsense. I think Beale bottled it and stuck to the tried and tested. Only brought them on when faced with literally no other option.

Calum Downham

Some hard truths here. The squad mentality is piss poor and when the big games are played too many of our core shrink and hide. Tav has been a fantastic servant but his trophy return in time as captain is dire

Christopher Fair

Hampden reaction B Team lose RWT beaten in Old Firm Might have to give this one a pass 😂

David Kiltie

Gutted as anyone this morning. It feels like the 90s in reverse. Does anyone share my suspicion of double standards between our period of domination then and that lot’s now? When the League Cup was considered “our” cup it was belittled as a “Mickey Mouse” cup. Funny how it is now considered a highly prestigious trophy. I remember in the 90s our success was heavily caveated with the observation about how much money we had spent compared to anyone else. I don’t get the impression that the SMSM are pointing out everyday by how much Postecoglou has outspent his Rangers counterparts. Also the media in the 90s pointed out (reasonably enough) our dire European results. I think Hugh Kevin’s wrote after AEK words to the effect - no point winning the Scottish Premier till hell freezes over if you can’t beat even ordinary teams in Europe. Does Ange’s record (out of 3 competitions in the same season, bottom of Champions League group with only 2 points, despite automatic qualification) attract the same ridicule and comment? I would be interested in podders’ and patrons’ thoughts.

Colin Mathie

He cant justify not starting the 2 new guys, he said he wanted starters when he signed them, so you know, why not start them in a major cup final, especially against that lot.

Rona Bluebell

I get the point you’re making but those shells are really tough! He’s be like robocop if made from them.

Alastair McGeoch

Tired of hearing our captain same the same shite season after season “unacceptable”, “we need to look at ourselves”, “we need to win as many games as we can and see where that takes us”. The trophy count speaks for itself and the continued pattern of bottling it and not being able to get over the line. A complete clear out is needed and IMHO if Tavernier is to stay he suitability as captain should be reviewed.

KMS

Beale spoke of standards... Is this his idea of our standard?, what worries me is seeing the acceptance of our players, and support of this, we are mediocre, heading to an acceptance of mediocrity, it's becoming the norm. We need to push against this, and quickly, because if we don't then our stature and place in this league is set in stone as also rams.

KMS

My concern about a revamp, a refresh is to get winners we need money, we need investment, do we have it?, I don't think so, I don't think we can afford to do it to the level we need, the team has been neglected for years and it has come back to bite us.

David A

Sore one to take but there is a need for calm despite yesterday,Rangers are 100% on an upwards trajectory with the right manager,

james whyte

Beale loves to talk. A lot of it ends up being contradictory and he has to learn now. Not in the summer, not once new players are in etc... Wisen the fuck up Beale, sort the nonsense of that line up and performance. Honestly, that yesterday from the manager, his staff and every single player was simply not acceptable. Tav apologising, yet again, is just a kick in the bollocks to us fans. We dont wont to hear it. Sick fed up of the same old garbage. More often than not, when it really matters these same core of players crumble.

Delgers

If Beale doesn't rip apart this squad during the summer then they will get him the sack like they have with the other managers. I genuinely think we need to get rid of Tav(plus another 7 or 8 players) to move forward as a club. I think Beale got the starting line up wrong. But I could just about understand why he did it. The biggest concern for me I'd the fact he didn't change it at half time when we still had a chance.

David Clapperton

Biggest question for me is that when Beale came in he said we’ll make some new signings and will be back to “playing front foot football, back to playing like we’re the big team again”. That implies we’d be forcing our style on to the other team. None of that happened yesterday. In fact it was the exact opposite. Why??

Gavin

I agree fully with this update and it summarises the situation perfectly. I just hope that Michael Beale and Ross Wilson are coming to the same conclusions so we can move forward into a better place next season. It will not happen with this core group of players.

David Simpson

Appropriate choice of music, brought an ironic smile 😉

James McConnachie

Okay, what about the wee candy cigarettes? I’d drive him to the airport, wheel him to the departure gate and maybe even make sure he gets a window seat beside an emergency exit. C*** would be out injured if you ripped a plaster of his knee.

Gregg

We knew he was injury prone when we signed him - it’s on us. If he was more robust we wouldn’t be able to afford him

Gregg

Couple of good questions at the presser and we’ll be back on track - no pressure

James McConnachie

That’s like saying “I bought a broken Beemer because I couldn’t afford a working one. Otherwise I’d have to buy a Vauxhall.” We should never have bought him but we contract his services and he never plays. A good player who doesn’t play is ZERO use. I’m questioning his physicality at the rate he is unavailable.

Fraser Black

The concerning thing is I feel like you’ve done this pod at least 3 times already this season David . . Or certainly within the calendar year. Yet here we are again with this same group of players. Felt like Beale just went back on everything he promised yesterday. So much for “I wasn’t really close with the players” etc when he came in . . He just went with his tried & trusted yesterday rather than talented & mentally fresh. Why go back to the guys who have been scudded by them twice in 2022 & clearly now have some inferiority complex when coming up against them? There HAS to be a clear out this summer or next year will just be a repeat all over again. 3 trophies off our record is depressing as fuck 😔

The Gallant Pioneer

just put it Fuckn right and give us a bit of energy David is correct mentality is the big one

The Gallant Pioneer

O and give me the logic again for the Suttar signing 🤔🤬

Jamie Derrick

100% mentality and the captain is the main issue. Until that changes we won’t change

Stewart Robertson

I’m sick of hearing the post match apologies. Heard them all before. Could almost do the press conference myself.

Jamie Kirk

Spot on with your assessment David 👏🏻

Gregg

We gambled on him - same with Helander - sadly bar one season it’s worked outfor neither and both are exceptional. Hopefully it’s a lesson learned - we are better with younger players that maybe need some coaching but can play more games. Sure it’s frustrating for the players too but no one wants to hear that

Tom

Our league results have been good since MB arrived but our form has been poor...very poor

Rona Bluebell

Those wee ciggies were also hard core. What sort of teeth have you got? He’s more like those prawn Skips that melt in the mouth instantly 😀

James McConnachie

I’m from Airdrie. The fact I still have teeth puts me in some weird percentile. This would be a good. What crisp would a player be? James Sands - Salt n Shake coz you hardly see them these days. Sakala - Space Invaders - a wee offside joke there. Kamara - Tesco Value - Best Before 2022.

Graham Jones

I didn’t think much of either side yesterday, but we were awful until we made changes. I’m not going to beat up the manager too much, because we’ve had better managers do the same thing. I thought the build ups all wrong, because it was full of bluster and hubris at times. Someone wasn’t contriving the messaging correctly for a final that we had in our sites, and was there to be won. Now we face them having a huge lift from it, and we will need to drag ourselves up and try to resurrect what little there is from the season. If we win then they face a crisis of confidence for the rest of the league campaign, but the truth is deeper than tactics and selection. We are working with a far inferior squad to what we should be working with. For a variety of reasons, we made decisions not to invest properly in the squad after winning a league. There’s no point running. Through it all, because it’s too divisive at this moment to go through, but we need to refocus and get going again. They need to learn form this and learn quickly. It’s a mistake made, but they aware augmented by other situations to an extent. I just hope the club take a longer look at themselves and take time to reprioritise for the summer, because the squad needs to be taken apart and rebuilt to suit us going forward. Some players need to leave in June, and newer, better and hungrier players need to come in.

Rona Bluebell

I struggle with Tav and Goldson. My default is always to be supportive but to lose again is very, very hard. Scottish Cup it is. Onwards!

David McBurney

Really can't wait for EH night but could you possibly do me one favour and don't let steely in, his abuse of Tavernier was nothing short of embarrassing 🤡

Sgems90

Still can’t bring myself to listen to the manager or captain’s interview after the game. Fair assessment from you David. Congrats on selling out Edmiston House great achievement!
