Great pod. Really enjoyed it. One thing interested me in particular. If the DOF is there for continuity then the style of play rather than the ethos of the club should be paramount. I accept that the two are not mutually exclusive . However the move from Gerard to GVB led to quite a difference in the style. The move from GVB to Beale has gone back to a style closer to Gerrard’s. Logically that should have seen Beale replace Gerrard in 2021. That may not have been possible for a number of reasons but it does shine a spotlight on the DOF and how he deals with succession planning. Do we grow our own and have replacements from within who know the style and ethos of the club ? It makes player transfers less dramatic and surely provides continuity. Alternatively we try to find external replacements who fit the bill but that may dramatically change playing style and with consequent player churn which can be an expensive business.

Great conversation this morning and as we can see communication is paramount. The role of DOF is so misunderstood and I think if we continue with this role at the club then I think the remit of the new person should be communicated fully. Personally for me it sounded like Beale does want more involvement in more aspects of the club and he would be happy working with department heads so it will be interesting to see what structure the club takes forward.

Brilliant pod, guys! All comes back to communication. I do think John Bennett will make that a priority. What we had in the leadership of Parks, Robertson, Wilson, and Gio were reluctant front men. Bennett and Beale are an improvement, but Roberston's time IMO has run. Our needs for 2023 vs. 2015 have moved on

In the UK there seem to be inherently blurred lines between the role of DF and manager. Rarely a recipe for success in business but in reality you'll never really know the discussions and agreements/disagreements behind the scenes.

Superb chat guys and really hope the model continues with better communication & transparency

Martyn and Joshua make a great podding duo, would like to hear more of their takes.

Really enjoyed this. Communication with fans is important and who is the face / leader of Rangers will always be a key role. I'd recommend the recent High Performance pod where the guys meet the DOF for Brendford. Really interesting chat and made me understand role better.

Great listen lads, good pod and hopefully eye opening for some One of the best justifications for a DOF I’ve heard is the theory that what is best for the manager is not necessarily best for the club. An example being McGregor and Davis. Great experience, great in the dressing room. Beale would rather have them than not. This is where a DOF comes into play, he needs to make the decisions that are the best for the club and not purely short term led. He factors in finance and long term progression, which isn’t top of the managers priorities. Managers need results now. DOG needs the future safeguarded.
