Academy Director Craig Mulholland to Depart Rangers

RANGERS can today confirm Academy Director, Craig Mulholland, has decided to leave the club at the end of the season. The 45 year-old has played a huge role in transforming the club's youth set-up into a truly elite programme, which is now comparable with that of top European clubs.

What is happening with our club. Something smells wrong!!

Leslie White

I’m not really surprised, we spent I believe in excess other clubs, the returns have been so, so. I think the new management team May? Be doing a root and branch review!

Jamie Gilchrist

It’s telling that of the youth prospects noted for their progression under his regime, only one has been sold for proper money. ONE.

Ron Jeffrys

Okay, that makes sense. If as you say these are Bennett’s calls. He has been a senior member of our board for years therefore imo he should have been getting the support of others to accelerate these moves far earlier than this.

Neil Wilson

Another big change. Not surprising that Bennett has moved him on. Bennett has been a strong proponent of the four pillars. We are reliant on making sure that we have talent consistently coming through the academy either to play for the first team or sold on for profit. If that isn't happening, then Mulholland carries the can.

Scott Dickson

Think that’s slightly harsh Jamie, when you see the fee achieved for Patterson. If we look at the other lot as a direct comparison, they’ve sold Doak to Liverpool, can’t see any others in the same period? Youth progression appears to have stalled, meaning either we’re not producing good enough players, or our management haven’t trusted them with opportunities. I’d argue it’s a mixture of both, but hopefully the likes of Lowry, Devine, Lovelace etc all get chances now. Lovelace especially, give him 4-5 games rather than the waster that is Morelos.

William Acheson

Always liked Craig, talked alot of sense and he has modernised the academy, but hopefully the next appointment will take us to another level again, we should really be successfully bringing through more players.

Ralph Wiggum

That's the Chairman, MD, DOF, Head of Youth and as many as 12 players about to leave or have left. A absolute purge.

Glen Kane

Takeover imminent?

Jamie Gilchrist

Is it harsh, to present facts? Id assume the idea of him moving on also aligns to others within the club thinking more is needed….a view id agree with.

Paul

It makes no difference who is in charge; unless the manager is willing to give young players a chance, we will never produce anything. We'd rather use a senior player in an unfamiliar position than a young player. We face ten men behind the ball at Ibrox, and I refuse to believe we can't include a young player

Derek Watson

There needs to be a chance for young players to get into the first team rather than. promising fleeting appearances then nothing and they leave...

Craig Armstrong

Interesting thought, how did you come to that idea. I see it as the clearing of a stalled club nfrastructure and combined with the apparent wholesale change of the first team squad to move forward

Glen Kane

The decks are being cleared for the new regime. The US interest didn't evaporate. Park was the block.

Kevin Stuart

Wasn't it said Wilson wanted to take him down to Forest?

Alan Murdoch

Therein lies the issue. We have people at the club who think our youth development is on a par "with that of top European clubs". We are currently so far short of that it it laughable.

Brian Rae

It will be no surprise if his best pal Ross Wilson has lined a job up for him down south.

Graham Jones

The club is stale from the inside out, and this is part of a process we’re in the middle of. Expect to more of these over the coming weeks. You have to clear out what isn;t working. I wish him well, because he played a big part in establishing of the Academy, but we need fresh voices and new ideas at that level. It’s just part of the clubs evolution.

Gregg

They would be a disaster - have we learned nothing. Under their proposal the current investors were being asked to put significantly more money in - park included - add the fact that the US proposed investors don’t have any money it’s a complete white elephant

Robert Ryan

Lovelace I'm sure is developing and continue to develop but we done a Fabregas with him in getting him from Millwall.

Rona Bluebell

Well, we can’t say change isn’t happening!

Andrew Hillis

With no announcements of replacements for these senior roles yet it looks very much like drastic cost cutting rather than the transformation referred to. When will we hear directly from our new Chairman to provide more clarity re strategy and direction? His reassurance would be welcomed right now please!

Trev @JimmyBell_Loyal

I'm loving the new coat of paint we'll have on our club and team by the end of summer hopefully!
