I've used the analogy before..... but Arkwright would indeed say "it's been a funny old week".  Only it's not been particularly funny.

Hoggy is back to try and make sense of the week - the Old Firm game, Michael Beale, the captain, even programme prices......and where it leaves us in early September.

Not having a go, but you’ve been saying Dessers is lacking match fitness. He’s played almost every game, surely he should be there by now.

The price is becoming prohibitive for young Scots - we need to identify them earlier when they still have flaws and coach them. Doig, hickey are good examples

Question on Raskin - why can’t he play the DM in a three with Cifu and Cantwell / Lawrence’s breaking I hate comparing ourselves to them but their whole team Is based on a base like mcgregor setting the tone

I can still recall two games that Hickey played in v Rangers for Hearts. A league game at Ibrox, Rangers winning 5-0 and a LC semi, think Nov 2019, Rangers winning 3-0. It is not overstating it to say he was honking both times, the last thing you'd ever do was sign him. Doig had a great breakthrough season, fanstic looking player but has a very underwhelming second season. I suppose for these two it is recognising the talent is there despite the poor play and believing we can get them back on track. We really have a dismal record of looking at Scottish players since Gerrard's arrival and it makes no sense at all. We would have is a very good side if we had bought the Scots we looked down our noses at in the past 5 seasons. Hickey, Doig, Nisbet, Shankland, Porteous, Campbell, Johnson, Ferguson, etc.

Aye - the point is hickey was 16 or 17. Good scouts should be able to identify his quality - even if we as fans can’t. If you wait till they progress further the price goes up markedly

The conversation when you were picking your teams about who should start between Jack and Lundstram is exactly why I would like to see us try a 3/5 at the back. Neither of them is good enough imo. I’d much rather have Davies and Souttar as wide centre backs bringing the ball out than I would either of those two as both have a better range of passing. Gets the wing backs high and offers them more cover defensively. I’d like to see something like this ⬇️ Butland Souttar Goldson Davies Tavernier Raskin Cifuentes Yilmaz Cantwell Danilo Roofe

Hoggy you said we should t have spent £2M on Doig who wouldn't start...instead we spunked 4-5M on riddance who doesn't start and can't even get into the euro squad...mental

Belated thanks for reading out and responding to my point, Hoggy. Personally, that's helped a lot as you're absolutely right - they are kids. I've thought the same when seeing other players from the EPL doing it, I suppose it just hits different when its your own team. Thanks again, sir!
