We're awful and there are no signs of improvement but are we being harsh on Beale? Are we overlooking just how big a turnaround of the squad we've had over the last 9 months? With 3 games a week pretty much since the season started, the players can't be having much time on the training ground and get familiar with each other. Also with the injuries now stacking up. If you take Cantwell, Danilo, Raskin, Matondo & Lawrence out of any squad and they will struggle to create.

Scott Barnett

Beale should totally be gone but we need to get rid of the old guard (tav, Goldson, barasic) they clearly have had no respect for any manager since gerrard.

Scott Barnett

I think the excuse of injuries would be valid if we were playing well before they started stacking up. Raskin and Cantwell have gotten progressively worse every game played this season, he needs to go.

Gregg

What makes you think they have not respected managers? Seems a strange thing to say.

Jim McCutcheon

Good debate guys interesting points enjoyed the pod 👍

KennyY

Good listen lads. Personally I don’t think there’s any chance that the board are even remotely considering the manager’s position. How much is it going to cost to get rid of a manager and a team who are all still within the first year of their contracts. I think we will just struggle on with what we have.

Colin Wieland

Haven't listened to this pod yet. Beale seemed to have been totally in charge of recruitment this summer window. Since winning 55 and apart from the european games post Christmas leading to seville, we have been bloody awful to watch for two years now under three different managers. I got no idea how this will change with the current mgr and coaching set up. With the obvious massive exception of Butland and perhaps, and it is only a perhaps, Danillo, the rest of the summer signings seem like duds to me. Christ, what a mess!

Lyle Anderson

Great pod again, would Lampard be the figurehead that we need? With a strong coaching team behind him the players would certainly respect him. Not saying it's the answer (or that he would take it) just throwing it out there.

james whyte

There was a formation at the end of the game?! Been so many games this season we end with players just all over the place and seemingly no structure or idea. Its a mess. Mwell came to Ibrox and were well coached and comfortable on the ball. 2 things we were not!

Craig Fryatt

Very good show I stand with the car pod 4 So, last Thursday having a pint in NEH after the game, the chap next to my said he could see McInnes being our next manager. Would an appointment like that go towards reinforcing our Scottish. Identity and Rangers values.

Brian Rae

Good listen, lads. We need an experienced manager who has displayed a certain level of competence. I really don't care how much it costs and neither should any of us because, do you know what, we deserve the best we can possibly get and TBH, we've been short-changed for too long. I'm astounded a sporting director hasn't been recruited yet and I've got to wonder who is steering this ship as currently, it's rudderless. I'm glad Bailey Rice was brought up as I also thought it was a disgrace that he was thrown on.

Derek MacMillan

3 wins, 3 clean sheets in the last 3 games. But the fans are fed up with Beale and the board. Beale needs to get the players motivated and something out of his signings. Crowd won't be great tomorrow, outside of CCCS I can't see many paying money for this.

Graeme Homer

Your question on Desser playing a 433. Watch him at Feyenoord with an actual working 433 and it shows he can play it & on Sakala leaving now we’ve no wingers, he wanted to leave, we shouldn’t be keeping anyone around if their head is turned. Before we get a new manager I want us to go and get Paul Mitchell as D.O.F firstly then get a manager like Glasner in.

Spoon

Great pod gents. Wholeheartedly agree with Iain about snobbery around Scottish players and I think Stevie’s comments afterwards illustrate the issue. The idea we have a squad miles better than the local talent isn’t justified. With better coaching (remember that used to be a thing!), alongside better players and on a bigger stage guys who are currently doing good things in the league could kick on. Suggesting that they would only make the bench or be back up options is the same thinking that stifles youth development. The idea we are constructive a club we have folk queuing up to sit on the bench is outdated. For some mad reason we think any guy signed from abroad is better than local talent. We also don’t look at output properly and guys like Colak are hounded out as limited while Kent is now missed having produced the proverbial square root. Our snobbery is holding us back as is our love affair with under performers. If we can’t show any class and style at least we could go native and get some fire.

Brian Campbell

Is this speculation or fact? I’m not the biggest fan or the three mentioned….. as I think those places needs freshened up - but i haven’t saw this ‘no respect’ you talk of.

Ross T

Enjoyable pod as always lads. Really hope the board are actively looking for alternative managers at the moment. Its a matter of time before the board will be forced to pull the trigger.

Kev Roberts

Stevie was 100% correct in everything he said . And let's sign Laurence Shankland if he's a bear at least he will be all effort

Martin Sutherland

The board are too incompetent to be looking ahead. They will hide and hope for the best. Losing is in their DNA. I don’t think there is a safe bet outside Scotland. The safest appointment, certainly short term, would be McInnes. But that would be desperate stuff from an unimaginative club.

Jim Milne

Lots of good points about opinions at the start. Hope to hear Alex Staff on the next preview.

David Innes

I know he’s not really local talent but we could’ve done a lot worse that sign Lyndon Dykes - would certainly be a better option than Dessers and in my opinion has shown in his performances for Scotland that he has the right type of mentality to play for a club like Rangers

David Innes

I hate being this pessimistic but think we’re long ovedue a really bad domestic result at Ibrox - will either come tomorrow night or on Saturday

Spoon

We used to take guys who were steady or showed talent from teams around us and improve them. SG seemed to be able to wring performances out of guys through charisma but it’s been a while since we saw our management team develop a guy, we have fallen into cookie cutter signings and in a market where we have a tiny budget that’s not enough and doomed to fail. The argument about a guy like Martindale doesn’t work for similar reasons, yes he might be able to coach a bunch of underdogs into a shape and system but he’s not developing guys as far as I can see. He is a modern make a system to suit your players guy (or buy guys to suit your system and drill them) but he isn’t improving raw talent.

Graham Ross

Great listen lads as always and first time I've heard Iain well done. Im going for a turgid 1 nil victory. Saturday is my fear.

Steve23

Enjoyed that lads, some great insights from all 3 of you. The point around turning our nose up at Scottish talent is spot on, there has been a number of young and experienced Scottish players who are better than a number of our most recent signings. When will we ever learn!. Good point on Beale and his approach this season, I agree, it’s almost as if he knows he has got the wrong players for the philosophy he had in mind when he arrived and he is now trying anything to see if it works. I can’t believe our scouts looked at the likes of Dessers and recommended them for this team. It’s a frighting thought, but it does look like Beale is influenced by what he hears from the fan base and tries to adopt his tactics to suit, its uncanny how many times we talk about preferred shape and line up and then we see it play out on the park. Motherwell is the exception, I’ve still no idea what he was trying to do in that game! Iain is a great addition to the team, get big Strider back on, the big man always has a great way of looking at things from a different angle or perspective and communicating his thoughts.

Angus Mackay

Iain is a great addition to the pod, but I'm really missing big Alex. The pattern around our club seems to be becoming worryingly familiar: A manager comes in mid season but too late to really save it. He galvanises the squad and gets strong results for the rest of the season. A summer rebuild ensues so that the manager can adapt the system and really get the squad shaped for playing his way. Inevitably the existing players take time to adapt and the new players need time to settle, so the team tends not to play well in the early part of the season and a few important results go against us. Armchair tacticians on line panic and start to question the manager's ideas and position. That becomes the narrative, the pressure quickly builds on the manager to change and he starts wavering, at which point the players lose faith and results decline even more. The atmosphere quickly turns toxic, the manager inevitably gets sacked and a new manager comes in just in time to be too late to rescue the season. He gets better results with players who by now are just relieved that the pressure has abated and on we all go on to the next summer to rinse and repeat. Last year, in the middle of the worst injury crisis I've seen in nearly 50 years following the club, there was ferocious criticism of the horseshoe; time and again people complained than nothing came through the middle. Then as soon Beale tried to develop a narrower style this summer he was almost instantly greeted by howls of derision about the lack of width. Steven talked in the pod about the manager's disposition towards the end of the game - no wonder, he probably feared that an off day following the high of Thursday night was going to cost him his job before his team have really had a chance to get going. It's all very well to go on about standards at Rangers. The reality is that we're trying to catch up on inferior resources, unless we start making allowances for that and showing some patience, I fear we are doomed to repeat the cycle. People talk about the Espanyol-ification of the club, but in reality we're doing it to ourselves. Honestly, our enemies must be laughing up their sleeves, they hardly need to do a thing - just wait until September for us to turn.

Allan Swan

Team, we should go “high” and get a EPL manager who can take us to a whole new level. My money would be on Graham Potter no matter the cost. If you think about the money we have wasted it would more than payback over a 5 year period. Allan

John Davidson

Well done Iain - excellent new voice on the network. I disagree with your points regarding Shankland but I respect your opinion. Hope big Alex is back soon too.

Graeme Duncan

Great pod as always guys and Iain is a good addition to the lineup but I miss Alex and hope to hear him back in the show soon. I think that there could be a number of blue seats on show vs Livi as fans are fed up with the performances from the team and no signs of improvement apart from GK and hope seems to be all we have to cling to at the moment.

Mark Rennie

If you want to get a feeling of how the vast majority of rangers fans feel just now, listen to that 1st 15 minutes 👏👏👏 excellent pod

CJT

Another good show gents. Iain is an excellent addition. There is a difference between negative and realistic. Other than a few stand outs we've been poor all of 2023 in my book. Wins but no style and acceptance the manager needed to bring his own players in. The fact many of us were happy to let Beale undertake that work shows the level of trust he'd built up. My own view though was that was a mistake. You need an approach that is inbedded throughout every level of the club and you recruit to build and strengthen that. What we got, and what we're seeing in terms of formation etc, is a very scatter gun get numbers in and make it work scenario. We definitely need a Scottish core to the team. Thst means recruiting Scottish talent. Let's face it that'll need to come from the SPFL as we can't afford to bring back those who've gone down south. Looking at who we did bring in there are likely a few we've turned our noses up at that certainly wouldn't have been any worse. As for next manager. Well I think this one has got a while to run yet. What state we might be if current trends continue I dread to think but with no DofF or really anyone with any football nowse at executive level I'm not sure they know what else to do other than plow on. I've thought for the last 2 changes we just needed a competent , experienced manager with a back-bone whose worked to a decent level in the British game. Just doing the basics well will win you 90% of the games up here and I'm just not sure that lot over the City will respond well to scoreboard pressure. If he also has a bit of stature all the better. The trend in the current game of picking up classroom coaches with limited experience in the hope they can grow into the job can't work here, at least until we're back on a steady path with a defined style and winning mentality, as we just don't have the patience now the trophy count we are so fiercely proud of is under pressure. We need to focus on players and a manager who fit the profile, not who might make us a few bob in a few years.

David MacT

I believe the fans are, I mentioned it before on here but our home crowd were booing our new signing in his first home league game this season. That is not on. Ibrox has always been a tough crowd but as a fanbase to go on for nearly 2 years that we need a rebuild and then to finally get it but start booing their own players in their first home game as everything isn't perfect is just ridiculous. I said at the time our fanbase don't have the patience or bottle for a proper rebuild and it's been shown true already. Even on here, I've been on Patreon literally since the first week H&H started but decided to unsubscribe as most of the pods are becoming as insufferable as reading a thread on that cesspit follow follow.

chris smith

Kev by far the most realistic prediction …

Jamie

Good chat. However, Tillman is not a far better player than Cantwell. Don’t even think he is a better player at all tbh.

Bob MacCallum

Stevie, btilliant as ever. Love your humour. Best on network. Your comments on Wright and Turkey, so funny. Lol.

David Bold

Excellent analysis from the panel. SH described the situation exactly how I currently see things. A short note on Mr Staff. I disagree with his views most of the time and his positivity infuriates me at times. However, Mr Staff is an excellent podcaster and great communicator. Would this even be the Preview Show without all the associated rage whilst listening? Carry on regardless, lads.

scott burnett

If a new manager was coming in I would love to see Gallardo come in. Realistically he would not be coming to Scottish football after the success he has had. Whoever replaces him when the time comes, it has to be an experienced manager, we can not have another manager that is learning on the job at Rangers.

Douglas Mcgregor

What I don’t get is to play a high press you need players with pace and stamina. How the hell do you sign dessers and lammers for they tactics
