Is this the first repetition of the daily update tune? Feels like it must be

John Smith

Hope you’re all ready for MuscatBall 🥳 Just wish they’d announce Kev now. Feels like my dream is very close to becoming reality

John Smith

I can totally understand your concerns Gareth but I’m going to ask you to trust me on this. Kevin Muscat will revolutionise our football club and I will fall on that sword

Jimmy Price

Heard someone on another pod, that you guys know well, mention Marcelo Gallardo for next manager lol. We ain’t getting him, he’s not standing at McDiarmid Park on a cold, wet, wintry night, shouting instructions, unfortunately. At River he was on £2.5M/year. He’ll double that with his next move. He’s been linked with Real Madrid and PSG. As a support, we need to be realistic

John Smith

Don’t need him Jimmy. We’re close to getting the Aussie Pep and I’m only half joking

james whyte

Usually when a Rangers manager leaves/gets punted its a big deal for me. I dont really know how to explain it this time around - I dont really feel much. Think I am just absolutely fed up of the cycle of failure we are in.

Rona Bluebell

Well, I admire your conviction. If it happens and it works, you should be given a lifetime free H&H subscription 😀

Callum Dinnen

Every manager is a gamble. One of the things I keep seeing though is that we want experience and we want someone who has experience winning things. Muscat at least ticks both of those boxes.

John Smith

Was just thinking Kevin should give me a cut of his signing on fee Rona 😂

Doogz

Muscat is a no from me, Gallardo already knocked back Lyon and Marseille, he ain’t coming to Scotland. Wish Steven Davis and Alex Rae all the best as they’re going to need it, there’s more than a few look like the do not have the stomach for a battle in the squad.

Stuart Lamont

What about Steve Clarke, he knows the league well although he might not want to leave the Scotland Job.

Allan

I see Mark Allen joined Steven Gerrard in Saudi. Probably a much better DoF than we ever really appreciated.

Spoon

Don’t believe the major factor was recruitment personally, a factor possibly but I have no idea how you judge the signings when they are in a shapeless mess of a set up. The guy wasn’t qualified as a man or a manager to lead a team our size. It was like the emperors new clothes when he was appointed. He had no pedigree, or experience, had left when the team was on the turn to dross, he brought in a staff that were uninspiring at best, he got a bounce out of a team who had chucked it (briefly), he got his pick of players but eventually his lack of a coherent plan or experience caught up with him. The old guard also let him down, it’s what they do they happily avoided blame and got Gio sacked. At the time anyone expressing concerns was shut down, too negative, he’s the Uber coach, his team are all top guys, they just weren’t it was blind faith projected onto a guy who folk either really liked or really didn’t. This isn’t hindsight it was being said at the time. Like David said Davis is a legend, if this group fuck him over then I genuinely would empty the stalwarts even if it cost money as the core is rotten. I hope for however long he is here he gets wins and we can get behind him. I would be happy to see him just give us some football to enjoy watching. While I don’t believe you need an ex player in I do think we need to look at a British manager next time who gets our unique issues within the UK leagues where there are a few football teams and the rest and just ball chasers or cloggers. Let’s use the right tools for the job this time, back to basics and use our superior resources to beat lesser teams without over thinking. I genuinely believe the squad isn’t as bad as people make out, given structure and shape I think a decent coach with a proper system to get the best from them. Interesting times ahead, ironically I feel more confidence off a sacking than I have in a year.

Doug Young

I mean, it's probably a hell of a lot easier to make a list of "No thanks" to be fair.

Stuart Lamont

It’s a case of who actually wants the job rather than being able to pick who we would love at the club, beggars can’t be choosers especially with this bunch of duds

Doug Young

With all the loaned players back, I don't think the squad is bad either, from a capability front. From an attitude front? I am not a Tav-basher, but I am also not a Tav-fan boy. He is a limited-capability player, like Goldson. My problem with them is their moanie-faced bastarding whinging and blaming others when they cock up. That footage of Butland fronting up to a disgruntled fan at the weekend says it all. Can you imagine our Captain and Vice-Captain doing that? They sit on pedestals and escape the falling debris when managers get the bullet. And I do not count Barasic in there, although he gets lumped into that category. He is our left-back, arguably with Butland the best performer this season and he isn't one of the "dressing room leaders" that we should expect so so much more from. I hope Davo has their number and is brave enough to front them up and say "Ok, this is how we are doing things now- Don't like it? Fuck off".

William George Bell

David there’s been a need for a change in culture in the dressing room since the league was last one. Tav, Goldson, Lundstram, Barisic are lucky to be still at the club. Walter wouldn’t have stood for their acceptance of second best.

Latimer

I would try and move Tavernier and Goldson on in the Xmas window

Spoon

No harm no foul David, what’s been frustrating is when he has been portrayed as being the fans choice or the negatives have been ignored. I would have loved him to prove doubters wrong as it would mean we had trophies. You nailed it, for some he didn’t get their belief early for others it came later but he never made the connection or gave us the hope needed to cement himself in. There is zero pleasure in this but it’s also doubly frustrating to have had concern at the time mocked ( not by you at all ) when you weren’t seeing what others were and a lot of it was blind faith. Always appreciate your opinions and genuinely only an attempt to make the point that even from the start there were concerns. The reality is fan opinion in manager sacking or hiring is irrelevant and we all feel helpless about the guy being hired not being the right one or we are frustrated other fans don’t back the guy we do. The board choose not us and that is a frustrating process as we know their choice impacts us all daily for the tenure of the manager. All good and let’s hope the next guy has that X factor to reignite a buy in from all.

Spoon

I’m an unapologetic Gio fan boy so what do I know anyway…..

Russ

Probably a howler from me but I'd take Wilder until the end of the season, keep Davo or KT as part of his staff with whoever he brings in. He's had promotions from National League right through to the Prem and his Sheff Utd team played great football - no joke. If he does well then extend or offer a rolling contract, apparently he knows a lot about Scottish football as well. Fans will rightly point out his recent jobs which is fair, I wouldn't be delighted with him but I'd be happy enough.

Rona Bluebell

Well, I’ve bought Hampden hospitality for the semifinal so I’m all in again, full of hope and optimism. It doesn’t take much tbf 😂

David P

I think the real question is....... Which podders does Davie not like?? 🤔😆

David P

I thought that was big Flange? Why are you so excited by Muscat. Genuine question btw I'm not being funny. If you know about him I'd like to be educated as I know absolutely nothing about him.

Spoon

And you guys are what keeps it on the level for fans, the boards are our safe space and therapy….you should charge more really….

Andrew Hillis

Thanks for the pod David. It’s clear and has been for some time now that we don’t have the leadership, passion , desire, ambition anywhere on the park apart from Butland! The acceptance of shitty performances, terrible referee decisions etc from most players is depressing and completely unacceptable and needs to change immediately! Get in the opposition faces, the refs faces and your own players faces purposefully when needed! I hope we show real ambition and test the water with Davie Moyes - you don’t know until you ask? We need an experienced proven manager who knows what this club is all about! Winning! Just need to go now and rob a bank to afford his wages! 🤣🤣💙💙

Stephen

Even with his history, he is on the verge of something good with Scotland and won’t be giving that up. Probably is that type of guy we need. Just not him!

Heart and Hand

Sadly I don’t think anyone gives up £100k pw and playing Man City and Arsenal for 30k pw and playing Motherwell and Ross County.

John leitch

Sadly time was up,it didn’t work out ,He didn’t seem to know his best team or formation Injuries didn’t help The next appointment is very important for us to bounce back

John Smith

He learned from Ange and incorporated his own brand of football. Postecoglou is a great manager, I just hated who he was working for. Muscat plays a similar style but with added physical presence. He believes in true total football. He’ll take no prisoners. He’s a leader, a motivator and is so forward thinking in respect to the advancement of football. Plus I’ve met him personally when I was younger and he was nothing short of a fantastic bloke.

Mr J K Murray

ty, Limassol drew 1 to 1 at the weekend

We are in a position since season 2011/12 that we are looking for our 7th manager and 4th manager since Nov 2021, this can not keep happening. Regarding beale i was never sold on him when links started while gio was in the job and if honest a guy had started to take qpr on the decline they still find themselves in right now. I was wanting him gawn after league cup final when he shit the bed and in every major game we had the same thing again and again under him. Leadership group annoys me for me the only leader any team needs is the manager. If you are going to use this method of having one then should change every season so its different voices going 2 manager or back room staff with squad issues or players in the squad should have the back bone to go see manager with there own issues instead of going to a leadership group with issue as by time message gets to manager it will not been said in same way what ever player spoke 2 group. For me growing up the manager was the leader and we could have and probably did have a group in they days but was not a thing spoke about, growing up i looked at smith , advocaat, big eck as true leaders of our club. Then we lost that as soon as we brought in le guen, walter comes back and looking in dugout you knew he was the leader and after him next one i felt like that was gerrard. I get the game has moved on and it is now more stats based and analysts involved but we as fans need to look at that dugout and see a leader , be that a muscat , jansen or who ever we go with. Just pray to god the board get this appointment correct.

KennyY

Big Jack is class. Absolute Captain material.

Graham Jones

Unfortunately it was time for him to go. I do think he was shortchanged in the summer because there was obviously no cash for the defence. Had there been he would’ve bought a couple. So while he takes the fall for his part, the board have to own up and take some blame. They put it out there that a lot of money would be spent in the summer, but it was a balancing act with in and out levelling off in the end. That was because they want their legacy in bricks and mortar with bigger stands. We simply have to knuckle under and let them do what they want, because we won’t sway them into focusing on a proper squad rebuild. I do understand the need for bigger stands because it raises revenue every year, but at this rate people will be watching the Rangers of the early eighties. Davis will get the same judgement as Beale, because I’m sure the board hope he does well and they get to go with him in the hope they can appoint him permanently. I haven’t heard a single name that makes me think they will make a difference. The only one that might make a difference is Potter, which is because he would come with a reputation from the EPL, but the EPL record would possibly carry a price tag we can’t afford. What this does demonstrate is that Rangers needed a director of football all this time. You have one of those so they can help make the right decisions across a whole set of problems in the football department. It also takes away responsibilities from the manager that otherwise take him away from the main task of winning games. The manager should be focused on the first team, tracking players in the second team through his assistants and playing a role when asked by the academy. If he sees something he doesn’t agree with then he talks to the director of football, and it their job to sort it out.

Tom McDavid

Does the club “budget” for the possibility of paying off a management team during the season?

David Campbell

Alex rae in ahead of kevin muscat in a few weeks I reckon it's just to left field for something not to be happening imo.

Gregg

Whoever we appoint - they’re not my first choice. Just want to be right when he eventually gets sacked 😂

keith wright

The one I find interesting is Jack Ada, I wonder if they feel he hasn’t got them fit enough and is partly responsible for all the injuries?

Stuart F

I would be quite confident he wouldn't want the job, which says enough about him! I'm more than happy with that too

Niall MacKay

There are fundamental issues at the club that cut a lot deeper than just a manager and style. It's been 25 years of near perpetual misery supporting us. Even the years we've had trophies in that time have always been caveated with some kind of black cloud of doom. We need a whole new culture. The lack of trophies has meant the fans get close to hysterical at the thought of it not happening, rather than us all focusing on how we achieve it over a sustained period. Beale had to go, there was no way back, I just don't know what would give any manager a way in to begin with just now. It'll take people a lot smarter than me to figure it out.

Ross

100% agree with the sentiment we need a leader first and foremost, someone that commands respect instantly. Rangers is a unique job, the best CV on paper might not necessarily be the best man for this job.

Brian Rae

We really do need a clear-out come the summer but the first bit of business we should be doing is getting a talented sporting director in ASAP. Surely the board already has a very short list of targets for this position considering they've already interviewed candidates when Frodo left.

mark wyper

The manager is away but that's not the end of it for me because I really worry about this group of players especially the ones that have been there a while , they have shown this season that when they're up against it they collapse far to easily they don't seem to have the stomach for it which is really concerning.

Alex Oliver

Davie, I love Bowie as much as the next guy, but I don’t want to hear Changes on daily update again 😁

Spoon

If they appoint another under qualified manager with more red flags than Anfield just say what you see early and don’t get shouted down by the über staunch and you will be bud.

ian laird

sam allardyce for me

Billy Forrester

Pascal Jansen or Kjetil Knutsen for me but knowing us it be Muscat or even Mcinnes.

Graham Roy

It’s times like this I miss Walter even more! 😢
