James

We absolutely have to support him (at least through the early days) with someone who knows Scottish football inside and out.

Scotty

At last, a proper proven manager 🥳

John Smith

On behalf of Team Muscat, I congratulate you on your victory Phillipe. Now the real work begins and you HAVE to prove you’re the man by winning trophies

Dean Anderson

Here we go again. Hopefully we don't hit the 20th managerial appointment for a few year!

Ricky

Welcome to Rangers 🇬🇧

Stephen

Don’t worry, John . We will have kept Muscat’s mobile number for next October. 😂

Euan Dover

Probably about the best we’re capable of attracting. Tentatively optimistic.

Luke

Hopefully gets rid of the horseshoe passing. But I suspect it won't happen until some players are moved on.

Spoon

Best of the candidates for me, like what I have heard about him and very hopeful he can get more out these players, genuinely don’t believe they are as bad as Beale had them playing. No guarantees but the CV and character seems a good fit. Guardedly excited by this one after never having been a Beale fan. Results will decide though and not the fans!

james whyte

To quote Jezza Clarkson "We did a thing. An manager"

Fraser86

Hopefully 🤞 this works if not the real pressure is on the board. Money talks spend the doh on the football team

Heart and Hand

On the players not being as bad as they looked, I hope you’re right. There are a few though I suspect he’ll look at and see very little.

Spoon

No doubt we have some who won’t cut it or need refreshed that’s not a new issue your correct. My hope is that he goes back to basics, without any emotional attachment to any of them and gets a system that works for the components we have, that seems to be his strength. I absolutely blame a lot of the old guard but on the newer signings I’m willing to judge them when they have had a run in a team with a shape and discernible plan which I felt we lacked under Beale. It’s purely a gut thing bud and there’s no logic, I like guy and what I read and see about him as a character, I just didn’t relate to Beale the way others did. In fairness I also rated and liked Gio while others didn’t so there’s no science to it and I might be miles off. Regardless he will rightly live or die by results or at least short terms in bringing back something to get behind in terms of shape, selection and style. Sounds daft but he looks the part which means bigger all in results but seems to have a bit of presence which matters, looking forward to hear him lay out his plans.

Bixby Snyder

David, any concern that the manager is coming in at a time where he can’t make changes to the squad and he’ll just fall into the current leadership regime (Tav, Goldson etc…)? I fear that he doesn’t realize that that should be one of the first changes to make.

David Baillie

I hope one of his first actions as manager is to tell the players to stop posting crap on social media. It makes them look stupid and only fires up the opposition. Do your talking on the pitch.

John Palmer

There's a tune there to be played and I think this guy could get it out of this crop of players. There's much to be excited about at the moment as it's still early in the Season. I'm confident we'll see a difference quickly.

Alan McKellar

While I agree with the original point about players and staff on SM, the manager is on it too.

John Palmer

Speculation online is: Backroom team shapes up Philippe Clement will turn to Stephane van der Heyden to be his right hand man again at Ibrox. The Belgian is getting ready for his first training session tomorrow and it's understood the former Brugge coach Van der Heyden is set to join him this week.

Colin Gardner

Unfortunately when teams come and play 2 banks of 5 there is only so much you can do. Go and watch Man City when they play at home against a Notts Forest and you will see the same left to right passing and back again. What we need to do is move it quicker and move opposition players around more.We are too slow in build up so looks turgid most of the time. The horseshoe is here for a long time I'm afraid.

Paul Kerr

Seems the sensible choice, I can understand why the board would go with him over Muscat. I don't really know much about Clement's style but I hope he's gonna be a wrecking ball if i'm honest. Some of our players need harsh truths. The League Cup was a nice little carrot for prospective managers to get some credit in the bank early. Now the hard bit of following through.

Leslie White

David the football we’ve had to put up with for the last few years has been dire. Realistically we can only hope he can improve the football. We then have to see if there is a budget possibly for a few players in the new year, hopefully a few out, wait and see could be our Mantra.

Gary Stanfield

Very happy and excited about the appointment. I look forward to Big Bad Clem getting stuck in.

Gary Shaw

The manager is on social media so can’t see him telling players they can’t be on it….I know it’s part of modern society but our manager being on Twitter gives me the fear.

David Baillie

I agree Gary. I don’t have an issue with players being on social media but they have to be made aware that everything they post is analysed and even distorted. The latest episode that highlights this was Niko Raskin. What delusional planet is this laddie on. Chelsea????? FFS. He’d be lucky to get a move to Cheltenham. Do the talking on the park.

James McDonald

Big day. Can you guys please repost adams clement pod so its at the top?

AmoRangers

Tell you what David, far too many wet wipes already looking for engagement on socials by dropping sassy/vague/negative tweets. I'm beginning to dislike much of our fan base.

Gordon Mac

Certainly ticks most it not all the boxes and appears the sensible choice. Fuck it I'm all in, treble on the way

Heart and Hand

It’s their insurance policy so if it goes wrong they can say ‘I told you so!’ like it’s some highly impressive foresight.

Gregg

Wouldn’t have been my choice - think this is a major error and I’ll be reminding you all of it regularly if he doesn’t hit the ground running 🏃‍♂️

maccalsa

Can we all get behind the new manager. What do we know? He has been successful at coaching teams and instilling a winning mentality. That's it. Anything else, track record on youth development, involvement in signing players, etc. We do not know. So let's give him a chance, setting him up and keenly waiting for him to fail if he doesn't go off like a train will have him sacked by next October

maccalsa

Completely agree, shoots of success, for a start would be us playing with a system that we can understand, and can see that the players are well coached into

WILLIAM JACK

Serial league winning manager (with different clubs) from a comparable northern European league. Time will tell but not sure we could have got much better.

maccalsa

I remember Klopp being on Monday night football and being asked about his philosophy of winning the ball high. He corrected the presenter and said it's not just about winning the ball high, but the 1st pass after you win the ball to be an effective pass. If you have zidane, you don't have to play that pass, but if you don't have Zidane, this is the best time to find a Zidane like pass (probably butchered that, but it was words to that effect)

Graham Jones

They took two weeks tom come to this logical conclusion. The manager isn;t my concern, it’s the way the club seems to be drifting somewhat. We’ve spent the best part of 2023 with no director of football, and it had a bearing on our planning and recruitment. The board oversold and underdelivered on the amount of investment in the summer. That was the price for their latest project expanding the stadium. I have no problem with that as we know it will raise a large mount of extra revenue, which will help us with FFP, but I do sit and look at the spend on NEH as the right thing at the wrong time. Had they expanded the capacity first then we would be going into next season with a few extra million every season going forward. We simply don’t know how well the NEH will do commercially. So, the board have to show real commitment to this manager and the project he wants to build, otherwise it simply wont work.

maccalsa

If he is as pragmatic as you say David, maybe we will see that some of our signing aren't as bad as we think. Hopefully, he will come up with roles in the team, which highlight their qualities and hide their deficiencies I live in hope

8luenose1872

I know mate it's so annoying, so many of our fans expect us to be attracting top epl level candidates but that just doesn't happen these days.

8luenose1872

Seemingly he got a tune out of Dessers in Belgium so if he managed to do that pretty early then I will let myself get as excited about him as I really should be (considering his CV) but am hesitant due to the scars of watching us over the last few seasons.

8luenose1872

100% mate, its the slow play that is the problem coz side to side passing goes on in every game when one team dominates possession, we also need to have better movement up top so we can play defence splitting passes more regularly during that kind of play.

8luenose1872

Welcome and the very best of luck Phillipe, at the FAMOUS.

Andrew Whiteside

My only concern is our history with European coaches. Never wanted a manager to succeed more than this one.

Spoon

Why shouldn’t people express concerns if they have them ? No candidate was universally approved and if you wanted a different guy because you believed they were the right fit why dont you get to say so ? Some people didn’t want to hear a bad word about what Murray was doing for years, I’m sure those who spoke out and voiced their concerns about his stewardship didn’t just do it to say “i told you so’ or score some kind of points. That boy on here who loves Muscat is probably trying to return Australian bunting and dismantling a big banner, he quite rightly went all in on the guy he believed in and didn’t fancy Clement citing his reasons, some of which were spot on. Never known the support to universally agree on anything but for me the idea he can’t be disappointed or its some kind of contrived thing isnt fair. There will always be some people who are just naturally pessimistic and in fairness when it comes to Rangers recently it’s no wonder but the idea we can’t hear dissent or we get triggered for me personally isnt healthy, its always about a view point and a bit of balance, you could argue those that go in on it being a poor appointment will be on the other end of the ‘I told you so’ if he’s a success. The reality is there will be people who wanted other candidates or just didn’t fancy Clement for their own reasons, its indicative of where we have been recently and its reflected in all aspects of the club and views on players, board, stadium, spend etc the only cure that will unite people is to starting lifting trophies regularly. Slagging people for their views is why I dont do Twitter anymore or FF etc the intolerance is more depressing than the negativity.

Stephen

I agree. People are even moaning about what type of trousers he was wearing! I think this is as high a level of manager as we could realistically get under our current circumstances

Dale Renton

Seldom heard you sound more underwhelmed, David.

KMc

I have my concerns about him, but hoping it works out. He’s going to need all the luck in the world with those players for starters.

Russ

Btw, if we're 2/3 months in with Clement and the players are still swinging in crosses like they're meeting a quota then we'll know that they NEED to get to fuck. Great pod Davy, thought it was fair throughout.

Steven63

Keep Phil'ieving 🇧🇪

Heart and Hand

Spoon - when it’s absolutely everything, it’s not people expressing concerns, it’s a pattern. If everything is always shit regardless, then it comes down to the individual. The ‘AM RAGING’ culture. It’s draining, it depressing and I think it perpetuates a dark atmosphere around the club which isn’t helping.

Steffen McAndrew

So are we all now CLEMENTines? I'll get my coat...

Keith Kettlewell

Forgive my negativity but I have zero faith the board have a good appointment in them. Le guen II hope I’m wrong

Gregg

That’s the spirit Keith!!! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Gregg

Who did you want that would have had you fired up and buzzing out of interest? Le Guen patter - and you’re not alone - is a bit lazy/ sad. Guy’s no even took a training session.

AmoRangers

Spoon, see David's reply. Doubt etc are fine but the flagrant rage-baiting, posting of sly vague tweets etc gets boring.

Spoon

Why ? Just ignore them, folk post loads of stuff on here you won’t agree with, skip past and let them have their say. The reality is that some aren’t coping with a decade of dross and doom as well as others. The club has made decisions that have impacted supporters day to day lives (if your the live and breathe Rangers type) and put them through the ringer, you take daily slagging at work and for lots of us it’s about as cheery as a goth birthday party. There are the extremes of course who wouldn’t be happy if we got in Pep but I genuinely think most are just less willing to quietly accept the club making decisions they think are wrong the way we used to. Previously we just trusted the board and stoically thought they must know best….it didn’t go well. As I say if we start winning and stop flattering to deceive I think things change. We are in a weird place where we kind of know we aren’t ’simply the best’ the way we used to be and it’s hurting folk, so what if a few are struggling to see the positives, some folk didn’t think Ally would make it, or Johnstone should sign, or Souness should ever be back whe he left for Liverpool, or that Flo was one of our most prolific strikers (👀) or that Alfie should have been sold or whatever….modern social media and forums like this are all about having a say or what’s the point? If you don’t like the content as David says about the pods and podders just find the stuff you did like as there will be something for everyone!! If we just win some trophies consistently people will get some perspective back….well the vast majority will.

Spoon

Not really seeing guys develop under Beale where that had been touted as his strength was probably one of the most disappointing aspects of his time. He might have got longer if we had seen guys come in and kick on but sadly it was the opposite with guys coming in on fire then tailing off eg Cantwell and Raskin. Overall in the last decade I’m not sure we brought in many bar the odd exception who went up levels from our coaching. If he can show signs he can develop a player then that would be a real positive. That’s what excited me about him most, a record of working with players and improving them or finding a way to make the best out of them. All about how it trabslates to here and the dreaded low block though!

Stephen

It’s easy to ignore people moaning on social media but the negativity that transfers to the stadium is hard to avoid. I can just imagine ibrox on Saturday if we are drawing 0-0 after 70 minutes. There will be people wanting him sacked too! I find it exhausting to be honest.

Matthew gribbin

He will need to be a miracle worker to get a tune out of some of these players. Unfortunately if he sticks with " the furniture" starting every week it will be the end of him , like gio and Beale

Liam Johnson

The worst horseshoe is the one across the back and Goldson taking 4 touches every time he receives it. Need to get the ball up the park quicker and when we press the midfield support the front 3 n press too. Midfield haven’t been doing that this season and teams just pass round us

Spoon

Ibrox expectant and negative…..is that a new thing!? Guys sign and wear the wrong trainers and they are written off. The fans will be the fans regardless of how you want them to behave, I absolutely take your points and it’s not my own view but it’s always been this way and not only will those people not change it’s their prerogative. We could make it that you need a certain amount of my gets points to have a gripe then the club could decide who’s worthy and make a few bob from it. The old desert island adage about three people and three RFCs comes to mind. Just personally never liked a fan telling another how they should feel. At least soon we will all have some actual football to fall out about 👍🏻

Gregg

What David said - sorry James. I think all the candidates had their merits and I’m happy enough with the choice

Steff Clarke

David, on an enterly unrelated note, you're played that track before, and it sounds just like Wire: In the Art of Stopping, but I recall you saying It's not, what is it?

ali t

On paper it appears a good pick....track record of sorting out teams and experience of winning. Fingers crossed getting this shower organised gets some improvements and then he can get a couple in during Jan
