The biggest thing for me yesterday was at no point in that game was I ever worried about the eventual outcome, not felt that in a while in a big game

Ranger1972

Ahhh Andy McGowan. All is right with the world.

Derek

Said the exact same thing at half time, David. Get 1 and will get a few. Team felt like they were growing as the game went on. What a difference the manager has made in such a short space of time.

Thanks for the Flagship David and Andy-Fun. Lots of intersting points. Only been 2 weeks since Hibs game! Not even 3 weeks training the team and we have seen incremental improvement game by game. Can't just write off last Sun v Hearts as a bad performance. Was it? Really? The application & execution drifted a bit from what PC wanted. But the actual performance? To keep going, to equalise at the death and pick up again to go for the win? That's good performance in attitude, endeavour and team spirit - sadly lacking from this group too often before. Even the fans performance was better. We all know last month by 60-75min team would've been hounded at every touch, Ibrox emptying and them assured of 0-1. Also Hibs was good. Slavia away. Despite a scary 1st half which PC warned us all was likely. After all its away at a comparable standard team, so it should be competitive, actually in favour of the hosts. Especially when Binfire FC are the away team! But PC / team adapted, altered and improved. Ended up being the better side not bad considering we're not fit enough. Overall a great performance. Dundee, no excuses for interruptions, sounded them out 1st half, adapted where necesary, put them to the sword. Hearts yesterday. Clearly adapted to avoid problems of last week, tighter & less attacking 0-10min. Cantwell, was performing poorest for the team dynamic, his booking sealed the change. Adapted, hit them hard & fast. Kept it. going. The manager is clearly straight talking, no bullshit, no hidden mesaages. Asked a question he doesnt want to answer, he wont. Or will politely give an answer but guiding it to emphasise his philosophy (the 'story') he wants for the team & club. The key point being, we need to actually listen to what he says. He's not talking about about Danilo or Cantwell being a new Ally or Laudrup. No, its about ALL of them, ALL of the time. So players like Wright, Balogun, kids, can flourish and contribute to the team as an equal, not as bit parts to the 'stars'. That's his consistent and repeated message - TEAM! Re White page. Yes but is for every single player. Not just a fresh start for the likes of Wright but also a 'you need to prove it to me' to certain stick on starters, perhaps a little too comfortable and definitely under performing for too long. We have acquired a very clever, shrewd and adaptable manager.

I'm always happy to he proven wrong when things come together. Players we wrote off are showing fight, determination and improvement, defence has stopped leaking needless goals and our fire-power has got better upfront (Just shows how bad we've suffered with injuries). I feel more confident going into games and don't have that fear or sickly feeling when we play. Can't wait for the Prague game this Thursday, I think we'll win it.

1 in 2 games, perhaps 1 in 3 Tav steps up to get us out a hole. Ok, his form this season hasn’t quite hit the heights that it has previously and perhaps it won’t ever again, but he’s still the one who’s doing the damage to other teams (perhaps showing my cards of which camp in entrenched I’m there!). I feel he’s had higher than normal levels of criticism, but since PC came in there seems to be a campaign from within the club to laud him? Senior players, established pundits and even the manager himself have all expressed the highest of praise. Hopefully that’s going to have an effect and see an improvement in his form, we will need it over the coming months!

Are you telling me spuds are coming along too 🤪

As an early adopter of Wright I am delighted to see him showing signs he is coming back into contention for a place. I genuinely believe that he suffers from the Scottish player snobbery that others from distant shores or even just down south dont have to deal with. Our club was built on taking talent from within the league and developing it through better coaching and facilities, that for me is where guys like Wright have missed out in recent years, we haven’t pushed players on or unlocked the signs of potential that got them moves. I also think you can’t under estimate how these guys playing week in week out impacts them when they arrive at Ibrox and get bit parts in games. Wright has a real opportunity to kick on, I think he has talent, he’s one of the few who can give width and pace in the squad and I genuinely hope he can kick on. Getting a Scottish core back would be something I would welcome, at the end of the day we just want good players but I think there is something about having guys steeped in the weird ways of Scottish football that adds to the team. Perhaps the biggest thing I have been impressed with is PC returning to the mentality that it’s a squad game that SG had. We as fans might need to adjust to the idea its not just pick the best 11 but pick pick guys who can do a job not even in a game but in parts of games or to carry out specific task that suits their skills regardless if the fans favourite drops out. Using Cantwell first half to do one thing then putting Hearts off by introducing a fresh Wright to do something slightly different is what we have been crying out for. The recent grind them down tactics just dont work in Scotland where teams would dig and defend a trench if they could rather than attack. Early signs are really positive and lets just hope it continues, very much enjoying everything about the PC era and I am even ready to drop my huff with some of the guys who I think let a lot of folk down recently based on their efforts and attitude since he came in. Sorry to disagree Andy but for me Beale was an abject failure and architect of his own demise, zero sympathy for him karma caught up with him. Great pod as always.

Gregg

He’s always had flashes - sadly never kicked on under various manager. He is an attacker who has scored 14 goals in 9 years as well - I’m not convinced he is good enough - would keep playing him the now but the evidence suggests this will be a short lived purple patch.

Spoon

You’re most likely correct but my point is more about us buying guys but not bringing them on and if he was called Wrightio he would get more slack as an exciting foreign winger. The guys in the pod were spot on, be interesting to see if his output goes up playing in his proper position, coached and developed by someone who can bring out the positives and mitigate the weaknesses. We have become a cookie cutter club who buys players for how they are now but don’t develop many and we used to be far better at bringing guys on and improving them. I also just like him as a player and wish him well in fairness.

The only reason I’m coming to NEH is to see Sonny McGowan’s jacket

Gregg

Boy has talent - but he had the same 4 years ago. There’s been no improvement really - we can put some of that down to the club but mostly it’s on the player. Always been poor in decision making - hopefully he keeps it up as could save us a right few quid. On an aside - if he was called wrightio you’d be saying he doesn’t get enough goals or assists 😂

Spoon

I don’t disagree bud, you like a player or you don’t. I still say we need to get back to talent development all too often in my own view we buy a guy for the now but haven’t taken them forward or improved. I get you rate Kent, you know I don’t, but I would say that your argument on Wright applies to him x £7 million…..he’s guy who never kicked on but started with far far more talent but delivered pound for pound much less. As always all about opinions and how you view the game. For what it’s worth I suspect your are correct about Wright but I still want Scottish talent to come to us and kick on.

Gregg

Hopefully Clement can unlock his talent - decision making has always let him down. We have a bit more movement about us now so that may help
