I think he will bench cantwell at the weekend and that won't end well, coupled with some difficult fixtures it's a huge month for clement

John Jamieson

Regardless the level of performance on the weekend I do not trust these players to win the final. They have shown time and again they will bottle it when it matters

Doug

Yes and no. There were only really three players vs Aris whom have been here for a long time, playing regularly. A handful who've been here a little while but whether through injury or other haven't played as much, then two thirds who are new players. The fact is the majority of our players are simply woefully inconsistent and either play brilliantly or awful with nothing in between. Sadly the Beale era has changed nothing and a rebuild and fresh blood is still required.

John Jamieson

I agree with you but with all that said would you trust this squad to show up for the final and give us a performance ? I don’t last 2 games are the perfect example of a team with a chance to finally get the support on their side and give us something to point to as a positive and they shit the bed

Doug

When I look at the full Rangers squad what becomes obvious is the lack of consistency. Whether due to being a confidence player (Borna, Cantwell), due to injuries (Jack, Roofe etc.) or simply having wavering form (Lundstrum, Goldson, Sima)... we lack the consistency to build over the long term. The only two players in that squad you can say consistently contribute are Butland, who hasn't put a foot wrong since arriving and Tavernier, who consistently posts goals and assists. Routinely he's also the only outfielder who even if not at his best either, digs us out of holes. Two simply isn't good enough. We need more consistent players, even if it's just Papac style consistency to start with. We need a base upon which we can build success. I still think Goldson has it in him, so another strong CB, plus new LB and the defence I think is solid. The biggest problem remains going forward, where we consistently fail to break teams down and take our chances. That's still where the bulk of the work is needed.

I think we need to afford Clement similar levels of patience that we showed with Gerrard. He can turn it round but the situation brewing with Cantwell is very concerning

Hendi

Cantwell wasn't taken off because he was playing poorly. He was taken off because he wouldn't do what was asked of him. Clement has to set standards. Standards arent set if he let's Cantwell do what he wants and just moves him to his favoured position because he's having a tantrum. It might have been benefical for that game last night. But it woukd have completely undermined his authority and would have been massively detrimental to what he is trying to achieve in the longer term. If a child is misbehaving in a shop, the easy option, in that moment, is to buy them sweeties to shut them up. However, you then make a reoccurrence of that behaviour inevitable, and encourage their siblings to also do it in future. Too many unable to see the bigger picture. PC totally right in what he did.

David Innes

Agree with that but starting Lammers at number 10 in that game was a bad mistake from Clement

Cantwell was right to be taken off if your manager at work told you do a certain job before your shift and thenhad to tell you again during your shift and you didn't do it what you think would happen people forget football is a job

The Wigan Reserve needs to be cut loose from Our Club

Graeme Homer

You ask with Cantwell is taken off and Lammers left on and then answered it. The manager asked him, Tav told him to stick to his task and didn’t, while Lammers did. Yes he didn’t do the attacking side well at but he did the defensive shift that was asked of him. Jeez even McAusland speaks a better game than TC. He said after the game how he knew Aris were gonna double up on his right and to get deep enough and get round them on his left and prove to TC what to do. Also you wouldn’t think we were undefeated in 9, LC final, Europe after Xmas and proven we can come back from being behind and all it is doom and gloom. Gotta laugh at how Tav’s performance is question and Lundstram’s was praised. He slowed us down, took us sideways and ran in blind alleys and you wonder why others struggle when he’s meant to be the drive, the engine and he’s a hindering presence.

Gary Shaw

Agree with lot of what you say but the undefeated in 9 doesn’t tell the whole story, does it?….Celtic slip up and we get a break against Hearts the following day then they slip up again and we fail to capitalise against arguably the worse team in the league then we get presented with a golden chance to progress in Europa League and blow it again….its a a horrible habit we’ve been in for far too long and I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.

Is anyone else frustrated at the lazy and cliched blame being laid at the feet of ‘the same old faces’? There were hardly any of them playing the other night 🤦‍♂️ The truth is that it’s the signings (and managers) who’ve arrived after those ‘same old faces’ are just not good enough. What’s becoming clear now is that the board are responsible for the millions poured down the pan over the past three years on dud players and dud managers - yet we don’t hear any criticism of them. It’s always the usual targets. Are the podders frightened to call out the board in case they lose their freebies and access? If so, what is the point of fan media? Time to up your game lads and stop trotting out the same old arguments.

Alan Anderson

Totally agree. I find this constant scapegoating of the ‘same old faces’ really lazy and annoying. It’s as if the podders are frightened to criticise the REAL problem at the club - which is an inept board that has doubled millions on dud managers and players and who have not been held accountable.

Graeme Homer

I’d more concerned if we had lost them games than drawn them especially given we went behind first, yet we managed to get something positive from them. The season isn’t over and them points could be valuable at the end depending on what happens going forward. I disagree it will get better, this is the worst team since 55 and possibly since Gerrard took over but Clement is still getting points on the board in games like Aberdeen away where Smith, Advocaat, Gerrard have all struggled before. Win the league cup and some moving around in January and the push to May will be interesting.
