After a small break, Ash and Trev are back to discuss a team that's safe to say, has a bit of an identity crisis in Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest. All sorts are involved in this from one the Army to GiGi Becali wo some will remember from the early Heart and Hand days!

Gregg

We played Steua in the late eighties - quarter final I think - lost over there and drew at home from memory

Granters

That the game with the infamous Souness tackle and the legendary Archie MacPherson comment “that’s certainly a booking” (it was worth about 3 x reds)?

Gregg

Aye - was a shocker. On Marius Lacatus - who was some player as well

John Johnston

That year was our best chance to win it, we missed Butcher with his injury more in Europe than the league.

Nigel Simpson

Walter Smith went over to scout Steau. His report to Souness was "we're fucked"

Nigel Simpson

One of your other points . In the 1980s the Soviets decided Dinamo Kiev would be the national team and transferred all the best players to them. Never really worked out. Juventus famously had 9 of the Italian world cup team when we beat them in 1978

Gregg

That was Red Star - they had a team full of super stars

Gregg

Really enjoyed that both - well done cheers

Al Robert

Sad Scot wasn’t brought back for this :(

Something similar happened in East Germany, when the communist govt transferred Dynamo Dresden to Berlin, as they wanted the capital to have a successful team. Dynamo Dresden reformed very quickly, kept all their original fans etc. But Dynamo Berlin won something daft like 12 league titles in a row. Lots of rumours about match fixing etc in that spell. Dynamo Berlin were also the team of the Stasi

Andrew Heaney

Due to Romanian football rules, Steaua can't be promoted to the top level. Public owned football clubs aren't allowed in the top division. Similar thing happened in Bulgaria. However, the two CSKA Sofias are in the top division.

Sorry for the random question Trev, but I remember you saying you live in Edinburgh. Know any decent places to watch the game on Thursday?

Trev @JimmyBell_Loyal

Hi mate, no, no I do not. It’s well annoying but to be expected I guess. For the final Ash and I are having to (but gladly) going through to watch it at the Louden. I don’t really think there is anywhere through this end to watch our games

Played them in souness 2nd season. Quarter final EC. Lost 2 nil over there. And beat them 2-1 at ibrox. I went to Romania for the first leg and they were too good for us. Bucharest under the regime was not a great place. Army and military police everywhere. It was an experience for me.
