Top listen! 👏 HNY guys! 🇬🇧

I'm looking forward to this old firm more than I have for a good while but at the same time I'm more nervous than I have been for the same amount of time, can someone please explain that to me. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣.

Great analysis. I’m equally contented that our team will arrive to win. The Tim’s will realise this in the tunnel , if we start well , I think they will fold. Scales has been developing their patterns of play , by impersonating Maldini, strolling out of defence . When we initiate the high press on them, his defensive awkwardness will become quickly apparent. I’m feeling optimistic about tomorrow. 🇬🇧

Gary Shaw

Got a sneaky feeling McCausland will be on the bench tomorrow and Wright will start

David Fraser

Think the Motherwell game was a dress rehearsal for tomorrow, first 20 min and 0-2 up will do for starters 🇬🇧👍

Usually agree with Andy but think he’s miles off on the relative benefits of a punt on a fancy loan vs getting in a guy who will serve us and allow more stable squad building and is proven in this league. As I mentioned in another post I’m just not a fan of loans, they are short term and it means when they leave you roll the dice again, doing this often is just randomising your chances. A loan to buy to test the fit of a guy, prove fitness etc if one thing but this obsession with trying to unlock the alleged hidden potential in a guy who is only really attractive as he once went for £35m to me is a flaw in our scouting and transfer business. It’s the Wilshere effect … the Barton punt and it’s always just spinning the wheel. This isn’t about Silva who i know nothing about but the same stuff was being trotted out at start of season that Lammers and Dessers. Y default would be magic as they were average in better leagues so it automatically followed they would be brilliant in a worse league. My own preference, I would have got Shankland in …. If we get both then I tip my hat to the club for excellent business but I fear if we don’t get Shankland now we will regret it.

Andy McGowan

No way is Silva akin to a Wilshere or Barton. As for Shankland, I like him, but not at the price I think hearts will want. And short termism is fine as part of a wider plan that includes players for the long term. Sima is the perfect example, our player of the year so far, what does it matter if he's a loan if he delivers for one season?

I had my mother in law visit for Christmas. Two words Never again. 🤪

Best will in the world we have no idea what Silva is or his sharpness, fitness or suitability it’s a total punt that will as the old adage suggests be either sugar or the proverbial. It’s a choice and just not one I think has served us well, we have yet to hit the sweet spot between retaining players until they are on the slide or running in guys who can be the basis of the team for a good few seasons and give stability before being moved on and the next guy in the production line slotting in. It’s only an opinion and preference but loans don’t do it for me, I couldn’t get excited about hiring a sports car for the day as it isn’t mine, I like ownership and to see something tangible for my money. I think every manager we have had in recent years talked about projects and building then immediately made short term decisions, signing the wrong guys out of desperation, keeping some beyond their sell by to eke out another 6 months and it’s hurt us. I get your argument it’s just not how I would do things. As I say my preference is to properly identify and grow our own talent, keeping players for a period to give a platform to develop and ideally sell on where possible, the loan market it just quick highs then the inevitable lows to my mind. Silva I know zero about but he hasn’t got mega numbers, he hasn’t played loads and he has had as many downs as ups. Until we look at a different profile of player and drop the idea nobody in Scotland is worth any money I believe we are missing a trick. So what if Shankland would cost £3m ? If he’s a 15 - 20 goal guy we have paid far more to get far less, Kent and Morelos spring to mind. Our snobbery immediately bugs up a guy with a foreign name and downplays what’s under our noses. Domestic players are only ever spoken about in terms of their limitations while the glitzy guys are talked up on their as yet unlocked potential. I wouldn’t put Sima as player of the year either, as I say I’m not excited by my neighbour lending me his ride on lawn mower while on holiday….when he comes back it’s not mine…. A difference of opinion bud but still loving your work 👍🏻

Wouldn’t you rather see us actually use the guys we have like Lovelace than bring in these guys ? The boy is due back, looked like he could do a job and is our player, these trophy signings only push our own talent further out and too often we never actually see the hot prospect we scooped up because of this type of signing. That’s only my feeling it’s not scientific!

Gregg

What hopefully is scientific is our recruitment policy and team - our new guy has seen the kid first hand and it’s been suggested he is a good fit over a number of metrics. I haven’t seen him either and prefer us to use or own players as opposed to loans. However - we have a new manager and team and I’m willing to trust the process - until I don’t. I’m a big advocate of giving youth a chance - we need strikers however and we have been handed and given ourselves a chance at a league - and the wealth to bring in some players - and I don’t think we can ask young Lovelace - who isn’t fit and has never started for us at centre forward and has never scored for the first team to shoulder the burden. And I know I’m contradicting myself from what I have previously said - I just think the situation we are in is so unexpected we need to grasp it and I like we have signed someone before the window even opens. Shows real intent. On shankland - I’ve always liked him - think people concentrate on what he can’t do and forget what he can. I’d love us to get him as well - but not at any cost. The pressure to do so will grow if we lose today. If we value him at £2knife example - at what price should we say no. We may have to pay a premium as it’s January and hearts are effectively a one man team. When it gets to £3m, £3.5m, £4m - at what price is it too much. We will hear just pay hearts what they want - he’ll fire us to the title. There’s no guarantee of it. Hopefully the siva thing is a statement of intent and we can get another one done quickly. Battle fever is on

Gregg

Loans are a bit more like a company leasing an asset to fulfil a contract - I need my bed 😂

Brian Rae

I've seen people question Silva's numbers and on the face of it, they are average at best. However, most of these are sub appearances and when you condense his minutes into games played, he's roughly averaging a goal involvement every 2 games. Factor in the standard of league he's already played in and it shows he can definitely contribute. IMO, It's silly to write him off before he's kicked a ball for us. Another major plus is that he must be extremely intelligent as he turned down those dirty scumbags.

stefan strzelecki

I think his ball control , athleticism, will be very effective to lead the press on teams. Creating havoc in opponents defences. I also take comfort from the fact that Phil is at the forefront of the signing. As the title today suggests. In Phil we trust!🇬🇧Let’s enjoy smashing them today..

Tom Smith

I always seem to agree with Andy.. looking at the bigger picture and regardless of result today, we will still be on their coat tails. Heaven forbid if they don't win. They will be circling around sharkhead. All the best for 2024. Keep the faith

John Myles

What’s your thoughts on Matondo playing the Neil McCann roll after a hour when Dessers tires

Spoon

Gregg it’s not about not trusting the club on this one occasion, I just don’t buy into loans. It’s possibly an age thing, I’m not saying it’s a disaster or that I don’t want it to work it’s just my preference would be we use what we have or we look at building for the following season and locking in blocks that we know will be here giving some stability. We have just had too much turn over in some areas and not enough in others that have led to us being really reactive at times. Loan to buy I get and that’s bit different. What I don’t get is excitement about a guy simply based off their rep, price tag or the league they come from. It’s not about Silva himself, I’m a Rangers fan and don’t watch other leagues or teams so maybe in too insular. On Shankland or the wider idea of buying Scottish I believe we automatically undervalue players that we see week in week out so for me it’s not so much about what we think they are worth it’s more about how much would a guy in that position with his return cost from anywhere, of course there’s a price but look what we brought in for the £4m mark in the summer, maybe £4m is just the going rate for a guy who would get you 15-20 goals ? I understand Andy’s point I also accept your own it’s just not how I would like to see us go. I get the analogy of a lease but I would rather go the more conservative, less speculative more Presbyterian you might even say route of investing for the slightly longer term. I just think like the summer the players rep is used to gloss over things, and it also places huge expectations on a guy who will need a month to get up to speed. Neither you or Andy are wrong i just don’t like loans and I do like Shankland who I suspect we will regret losing out on if he goes elsewhere. Like Colak we undervalue the raw ability to score goals in this league and rack up numbers regardless of the opposition. Let’s hope it’s all irrelevant until after the break as we scud the orcs today 🇬🇧

Gregg

I agree in theory - just think our need is great in the striker front and glad we have one in early. Always a premium to buy at this time - I’d like shankland too if possible but not for silly money

Spoon

Absolutely, and can’t be held to ransom or overpay just think. We have a blind spot sometime around domestic players and do them a disservice where we auto assume foreign will be better. Your right about the striker position and it’s not by any means bad business but we potentially lose two big parts of forward line at end of season in Sima and Silva if we build around them then they go. We have a chance to reshape our model and team set up. Would like to see more home grown guys and more youth opportunity which thankfully the manager seems to have kickstarted but for me if we can play guys like King, Lovelace and McAusland and not loans then it’s better. Not bad business at all and can’t be dogmatic about things but as a fan I don’t really get too attached to loans. Enjoy the game bud, always welcome the chat 👍🏻
