Martyn, Adam and David are back as the new era of European football starts properly. What the ties with Leeds told us about British football's place in the elite game, Cruyff's weak spot, the attraction for the new casual viewer, the tragic end of one of the greatest forwards of all time and how the first title was tainted are all on the agenda.

Gregg

There’s a superb drama about tapie on Netflix - he taps up the Bruges striker before match 6.

Martyn Ramsay

Oh, is it good? I wasn’t sure at all. These docudramas have a propensity to not bother too much about the facts 😁

Gregg

Aye its really good - starts at his from when he’s about 20, he’s had some life from pop star to business, politician and football owner. There’s certain poetic licence with dialogue in these things I guess but the main thread seems fine. I watched it all in about two nights. Think the Brugges player was victor anichebe

Gregg

Also - had forgotten until I watched it that Christophe Cocard was one of the bribed players at Valencieness

Pretty sure Andy McGowan mentioned (on the RBR pod?) the Netflix Tapie show was really worth watching.

Thanks Martyn for another episode of this series. Really enjoyed it. Great to hear the different perspectives from you & David and Adam. Hindsight is 20/20. But history is written by the winners! Really interesting episode and I don't disagree with anything said but it's simply impossible to explain how the period 88-94 and all the quantum leaps made in the game FELT as they happened. Add in the quest of discovering the when & how of these changes when so little information was available. A revolution, or probably more accurately many mini revolutions in the game. All were new & exciting but just seemed to happen organically & naturally. Clearly the opposite was happening but it certainly didn't seem hyped (except Sky!). A sign of those times perhaps? Not appearing to tamper with the game too much too soon? I put the 'romance' of different styles in last week's comments and it was a thing. Good old English / British fighting spirit can overcome the fancydan stuff. Ach thats ok in the sunshine but try that on a wet Wednesday in Stoke, or more approprately in this case Govan! And differing ways to play the game is what the CL and even football itself is ALL about. Wasnt aware of The Fix book. Even after 30 years that subject is a nest of vipers I've never been able to glance at nevermind poke a stick into. Maybe its time! Keep up the good work everyone. Looking forward to the next episode.

Craig

Great listen, if anyone has not read the fix as mentioned in the pod I would recommend it! Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Stephen

Really enjoy that. I’m sure you guys covered an accusation that Boli was a lot older than he claimed. Can you do a quick reminder of that please. I can’t see anything online
