Martyn, Adam and David pick up one of the most important seasons in European football as the Bosman judgment is delivered and another famous old name comes to the Champions League party. In this week's show however, the focus is on some of the weirder stories of the year. Dynamo Kiev's bribery, Blackburn's punch-ups, the success of Panathinaikos and Spartak Moscow as well as Ajax doing Ajax things.

Completely forgot about the Kiev malarkey, age is a bugger. As for Rangers not being able to compete we were not pragmatic enough never have been we should have won Euro competitions in the 60’s we had the teams. My Dad used to tell me about the games against Fiorentina he said they just suckered us , as soon as we came up against a team who couldn’t be overpowered at Ibrox we were done. Winning 1 nil we would go all out for the 2nd and bang it was 1-1 then we would chase next goal and bang 1-2. Walter first time around was the same.

Me too re Kiev, not a scooby. Maybe didn't even know in the first place. Different world, different media. Pretty sure it was only the home nation game on ITV, maybe a few highlights from others but they'd be brief. If UEFA wanted it played down, it would've been. From what I've just read its a 'he said / well he said' situation and UEFA backed their official not their member club. It literally could've been summed up in one sentence by a commentator, when talking about that group. Less sensationalist times. Maybe it was 'What do you expect of the big bad 'Russians'!?' perhaps. Totally agree re Rangers. Naivety. (same happened on Sat!)

Enjoyed that again guys. Getting to the stage my interest at the time wasn't as intense, all becoming normal maybe and naturally a bit huffy as Rangers weren't at the races, bit out of our depth, with arguably the best team we'd had to date. I'd say Walker & Blackburn WERE the Abramovic & Chelsea of that time. Exactly the same; big name manager to front the project, threw money at it, got success (🤔 King & co, SG, stop 9/10 in a row?). It just took less money to do it back then. Walker got respect more than envy as a self made but common man. Steel. Best of British team. It's all very muck & brass and any ire merely at 'Northern upstarts' which was tolerated by most. Raised the bar in spending. Most couldn't complete. Perhaps the very last ChairMAN of a club following that model at that level? Chelsea did the same but it was 'all bloody foreigners & their Russian mob money' Roman clearly just a bank, a board was running it. Now it's nation states with corporations in place to control all aspects of everything. "Yeah. Zenit, unfortunately, DID win the UEFA Cup Adam!" Sorry, but that buckled me!🤣 Great tolerance David but I could literally hear the hand smack of your forehead you visualised in your mind's eye as you said that😆 Adam, it's perfectly fine to be young(er)👍. Keep these coming lads. Always a really enjoyable listen.

You forget how quick shearer actually was at Southampton too. ACL injury at Blackburn then ankle injury at Newcastle put paid to that pace. He to me was the complete centre forward. Had he gone to United he is discussed alongside Charlton, law
