As you said, the upcoming era is much maligned but I think a lot of that is pretty overblown. There's a lot to enjoy and Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor is a great bit of casting at the very least.

I was very mixed on Capaldi at the beginning because of how much I loved Matt Smith, but his monologues really are top tier. Doctor regeneration speeches are always great but Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi really broke me and had me weeping like a baby man

A few things. David Bradley (THE Doctor) also played the evil trader Solomon on the episode "Dinosaurs On A Spaceship" with Amy & Rory. (He is also a villain in GOT!). Mark Gatis (The Captain) was in a couple earlier episodes (Prof Lazarus with Tennent, Gantok with Matt in The Wedding of River Song) He also wrote 9 episodes spread across the seasons. And with his creative partner Steven Moffat created the BBC series Sherlock (which he is also in). And most important, Jodie Whittaker is another great Doctor, despite all the complaining!

RTD "Everybody Lives", Moffatt everybody dies but see them after they die

Ash Davis

Moffat was the one who wrote the “Everybody lives” line. RTD was the one who liked killing people off. RTD was going to kill off Jenny in the Doctor’s Daughter but Moffat convinced him to keep her alive at the end. It’s actually very rare for Moffat to completely kill off a character and not bring them back in some capacity, and that directly leads back to his mantra that “everybody lives”. Like that was the whole point of Bill and Heather. She’s not dead, it’s just a different kind of living.

"Doctor, I let you go." For this rewatch, I'm going to do what I should've done the first time around, let go. And what a brilliant way to end it, even years later it still brings a tear to my eye. Capaldi is a perfect iteration of the Doctor for me through and through. I hope you have fun watching the later episodes.

I loved Whittaker in Broadchurch (starring alongside Tennant , maybe Emme should watch it, hint, hint) , so I really looked forward to her in this one. I feel like she could've made a good doctor, even with the difference in writing. Look at Capaldis worst written episodes, he single-handedly elevates them to good with his incredible acting.

Capaldi was born for this role, he owned it, he was magical. I always blubber from the Battlefield scene onwards until the end, every time, literally all like 30 times I've rewatched this over the last ten years, it just hits me, it's like saying goodbye to your favourite uncle or grandad, seeing him go genuinely upset me at the time and still does, I LOVE that man and this Doctor, this is why you watch shows when they can make you feel so deep a connection and emotion, I feel your sadness at this regeneration Emme I really do. goodbye 12 :( Series ten music only got released in December! If you haven't already go through it all, in fact Capaldi's who era has some of the best music, go through it all! The theme he regenerated to was the same one used at the end of Heaven sent, iconic as hell! Regarding the new Doctor, I've watched classic who when I was younger and all of current, to me, there is PLENTY to love and enjoy in this next Doctor, you have to remember this was the start of the #NotMyDoctor time when people just wanted to hate on a female Doctor and hated on it without watching or just didn't give it a chance, I personally think there is a lot to like this era, I'm sure you'll enjoy it too :) Comment section....I let you go....

Ewww. Why do people like you always feel you have to tell us this, if you don't like it fine but why do you feel we all have to know, go off and do something else then, there's loads to like from here but if you want to miss out due to whatever stupid reasons you have then fine, go away and leave the rest of us to it. Jeez.

Martin

Another point for the Capaldi arc, notice how he changes from being angry and 'who frowned me this face' type at the beginning, very angry and direct to literally everyone to ending with the long shaggy hair, and ending on a be kind monologue, a complete 180 in character, it's so cool to see the transformation. But man does he still not like pears though lol.

Dylan

Wasn’t David Bradley in Broadchurch too? That’s 3 Doctors and plenty of other Doctor Who alumni. It’s definitely one to put on the radar for Emme, great show. I think Jodie did make a good Doctor, a fantastic Doctor in fact 🙂

charlieh65

Yeah, it was a complete character turn, which is great cause he was so loveable in the end. Only wish he disliked apples instead of pears because an apple a day keeps the... Ah, never mind.

charlieh65

Oh, yeah, David Bradley was on it too, he really does have an incredible acting range also. Broadchurch is a great show, (English version, we don't talk about the American one)

12 has been my modern fav for quite a number of years now. Bill and Donna are in joint first place for me. I like this episode a lot. But on the whole I prefer 11's generation scene a little more. I think there are definitely a number of things to like about the sections that follow. Each to our own to decide what they are. I'm still debating whether I want to follow on with you for it. I tend to watch them less than the previous 10 series, for reactions. But have watched the next few series 3-4 times. So I speak from a point of view in having given them a fair shake. Some series age well and grow in appreciation, when we see and feel something new with more rewatches. I disliked them less with each rewatch is as charitable as I can be as a collective whole. There are good singular moments, so I'd look for them. But these things are subjective of course. I thought a testimony of lost voices that could be heard, learnt from, and commemorated, was beautiful. You perhaps couldn't decide if it was evil, even after the purpose was described. I found that a little telling on the nature of perspectives. But I grew up on slightly more positive sci-fi. Later generations have arguably had a majority sci-fi that has leant more so towards nihilistic, apocalyptic, dark, bleak, and dystopian warnings of the future. Those are edgy and fantastically entertaining. They do provoke things to think about, gotta love that. But that saturation and possible imbalance could produce an inevitable mindset that looks for the harm in a story about a future culture that just wants to listen, understand, and commemorate people. This Doctor's emphasis on kindness is a mark of what I love and appreciate the most about them.

i will truly never forget the monologues!!!
