It was a really great episode. And it was so much fun to learn about giant go-gurt worms. 😉

Tiffany

Obsessed with marine snow videos.

Will McClure

So cool to learn from Dr. Girguis. He seems like such a great educator as well!

MamaLuz

I can't wait to listen! Not sure if it's mentioned in the episode but I just read a news article about a bigfin squid recently observed at 10,000+ ft. So, more of a macrobiological observation but SO DEEP!

Heather Wilson

I didn't understand a lot of this episode. This was not his fault. But he was so charming. And his voice - oof!

Kelly Shaver

did anyone else have issue when streaming this episode on the apple podcast app? I kept earing some random noises here and there, and sometimes it would randomly cut back 5 seconds or so and repeat. It was like when a new audio clip of editing started, it would play for a few seconds and then restart from the beginning of that clip.

Aubree

Wow I really wish every teacher had this vibe and attitude. Bless the ones that do 💚💚

Melissa DeWoskin

He needs his own podcast! What a great episode!

Pablo De Florence

Great show! Mind blown by the realization that so much of life on earth lives that deep in the ocean. I heard Alexis Nikole Nelson aka Black Forager on another podcast talk about how, for most of time life fed itself either chemically or from the sun. Eating things is a relatively new phenomenon in the history of life. Not surprisingly humans are bad at it.

El Pete

Peter Guirguis, the Barry White of ologists. Seriously though, worms bonding with microbes - boom - head explodes.

Fossorial Reptile

just finished it!! very delightful episode, i was logging soil borings all week long and now I'm so curious what kind of microbes I've been looking at!!

Brain 🧠 Shenanigans

This beautiful precious human being has reminded us why all millennials wanted to be marine biologists when when we were wee smoligites. He is so cheerful and engaging, and makes it all so approachable. Let us all stan Dr. Pete. How soon can you invite him back on as a return guest?

JENN 'Benthopelagic squirrel' ALVAREZ

Omg everything deep sea forever pls! Lol love the episode as per usual. I know Sarah's ears perked when she heard "magnapinna"😊

Diana Staresinic-Deane

What an amazing, joyful guest! And truly, I could listen to Peter Girguis read ingredients labels on cereal boxes.

Megan H

Wow! New favorite!! Excuse me while I go and become a microbiologist…

Mads

Loved this episode, I learnt so much

Alli B

Loved this. It’s such a fascinating place! Dad Ward, I think the same thing about the amount of life I’m bringing to shore via hair and swimsuit every time I get out of the ocean.

G.Sil

The episode was so so so good! Loved learning all the fun facts like the tube worms and their symbiotes!! Also Dr. Pete mentioned his colleague Dave Valentine and I got excited because I know him and he was actually lab mates with my PhD Advisor when they were in grad school so it was nice to hear someone I know mentioned.

Nathan

Alie! You should do an Autism episode with Simon Baron-Cohen, the director of the University of Cambridge's Autism Research Centre.

Emotional-Support-Human

How is it the worm that stops being a worm and turns into a self sustaining buffet for microorganisms not become some sort of cult level horror movie? Talk about creepy! Also the sound of wonder in his voice as he talked about taking in the first views when embarking in a submersible are so captivating. I love that he enjoys introducing his students to the awe of ocean exploration.

Itsok

Yes, yes indeed

Wandering Wyatt

Just wanted to give my love for this episode as an ocean creature nerd and for this super charming Ologist!!!

This happens when you’re on a poor network connection. Happens to me if I don’t download the episode before I drive in my rural area. Happens for any podcast, not specific to this episode.

Potato Puffer

Very good episode. Excellent guest

Hilda Z.

Dr. Girguis’s voice is amazing! I have many fears associated with the ocean and tight spaces, and yet, he made it sound very enticing!

Yygalnnok

I, on the other hand, would live in the ocean if I could.

Carl Hames

A man who loves to hear himself speak so much he can’t even stop talking when he’s in Yosemite. 🤦

Can we crowdfund a field trip episode for Alie on the Alvin???
