Heaaaay Ologites!

I'm making you a lil' video, so if you haven questions you want me to answer, toss them in the comments!

Also should I make it today even though my hair is giant and a disaster, or should I be more presentable?

LEAVING THAT CHOICE UP TO YOU.

Also let me know what, as patrons, you would like to see more of. I worry about bombarding your inboxes with posts so I feel like I post less frequently than I actually want to. Let me know what kind of schedule you like from your creators.

Highest of fives,

Ward

1) Do the video just. As. You. Are! Don’t let the internet tell you how to be you! 2) Question: If you could interview ANYONE in history, who would you interview and what would be your first question?

Brian Edge

We love you however you are! Does most of the interview make it to the podcast? Or do you edit out a lot? And I wouldn’t mind getting inundated with missives from you. Best stuff I get in my inbox.

Colin McCarville

What is the most interesting thing you have learned so far doing the podcast? Do you plan on revisiting ologies to get other perspectives on subjucts?

Mike Melchior

I say embrace the wild hair look. The years have taken that option away from me.

Mike Melchior

What kind of ologist would you be if you became an ologist?

Mike Melchior

Oh, feel free to bombard my inbox. (That sounds dirty) Emails from ol' Dad/Uncle Ward are some of the best emails I get.

Mikey

A few episodes you mentioned an internship and I have been quietly freaking out to myself ever since because that sounds incredible! Anyway I was mainly curious to know if said possible intern had to be LA based and also what the duties of the role would include?

Jack Kelleher

As someone folliclly challenged I am sure your hair will look great. I like Mike’s question. What kind of ologist would you be? I’m a video tape operator and now want to call myself a videoologist. I hope your mom is doing well. My mom had MS(diagnosed in 1977 passed away 2004) my older sister was diagnosed 1999. I know that awful disease well😢. I send good thoughts to her and your whole family. Feel free to bombard my inbox. If I don’t have time I can read it later. Have an awesome day Alie.

Shannon Patterson

what non-ology professional would you most like to interview?

Sandy Moore

We love you as you are. Send me all the email you want.

Julie

So, just fyi, you are totally awesome and so is this podcast! I'm a listener of both Ologies and Alison Rosen so I'm lucky enough to get slightly more Dad/Uncle Ward than some others, which makes me so happy :) Questions for you: What did you want to be when you grew up (like when you were a kid)? What are some of your favorite activities when you're not recording asides in closets? What was your favorite and least favorite previous jobs and why? As for the hair decision, you do you, girl! If you want to come on with full monster hair, DO IT! Or, if you want to try to tame it for us, do that. I can say confidently that I will love you (non-sexually, of course) and still listen either way :) And bring it on with the Patreon posts! When I get a notification that I have a new post from Alie Ward, I always smile and get excited because this podcast is so amazing. You are so great at blending informative discussion and entertaining asides that I enjoy every episode, regardless of the topic. All in all, (this was probably way too long) I think you're awesome and you're putting out a great podcast! (I don't use iTunes, otherwise I'd totally write a review for you to creep). Keep up the good work :)

Tobias Milton

More posts are always great, but only if you have the time to do them! What job would you have if one of the things you do now could pay all of the bills and then some? What is your biggest vice? Your hair always looks awesome at full poof or long and straight, plus anything between, so film away!

Euan Munro

Hey Alie, I'd say do the video however you feel comfortable. In terms of questions I'd be interested to know if there was a part of an interview that you had to deliberate on if it should go in the podcast. Like, on a controversial subject, or if you asked a REALLY dumb question. Obviously you might not be able to talk about the specifics of something you cut but an insight into the decisions around what goes and what stays would be interesting to me. Cheers, Euan

Alison Ross

Do the video when you feel like doing the damn thing :) or when you get enough stupid questions. Also, please, send all the email you like, it's more welcomed than the other 90% of junk that comes through. Favorites: all things science-y, nature-y, history-y are my personal favorites. What would your -ology title be?

Katelyn Evans

I love your hair when it's wild and free, and I love getting posts pop up from you! I say follow the posting schedule that works best for you. We're supporting you because we want content from Ward! Question: Are you exhausted or on a high after your ologies interviews?

Edward Rajala

I like your natural hair, so, let it fro! Definitely would like and appreciate more content / contact from you. Yours is the most looked forward to content of the week! I'd love to see more about you and your story.

Lexie Haranda

As a frizzy curly haired person, I appreciate the pouf. Do you have a long, working list of all the ologies you want to do in the future? Would you ever consider revisiting an ology if you met the right ologist? (I say go for it). What ology field could you most picture yourself working in? How often do you have to travel for your interviews?

Michael Satumbaga

No question, just wanted to share my appreciation of the joy you bring to our lives. I’ve learned so many cool things! I even got me a tarot reading from Cole Imperi. So yeah you’ve birthed a rad community! Also do you poppa Ward. You slay in any state you’re in.

Aaron Herdman

Are you more into science theory or practice? Also, are you more excited by discoveries or scientific method? Also also, do you think it's important to understand the history of science or are you more focused on the current collected body of scientific knowledge and understanding?

Eric

Is this a trick question. Giant and a “disaster.” The notifications frequency is fine, guessing you’re not entertaining personalized “heeeeeyyy”s on the hour every hour. Is there an —ology that you were most trepidatious about that turned out better than you expected, and on the flip side is there one you thought would be a breeze that was not so much?

Shannon Wenkoff

I also want to know more about you because you seem so amazing! I'd love to know what you did before you made podcasts. And how do you make a living? What did you study in school? What do you do when you're not recording podcasts? Also... my hair is also fro' like <3

Shannon Wenkoff

also how did you meet Steven Ray Morris and Georgia Hardstark?

Jim Merson

Big hair don't care! Go for it, Alie!! Shoot that video today! <3

Thomas Pico

No questions just a few thoughts after this weeks episode. The Psychological Evolution Of My Workweek So after many questions and a hypothesis I have now a theory about the psychological evolution of the work week. Monday; That sinking feeling when you clock in at work and realize that is the nail in the coffin of the weekend. Tuesday; The mourning and acceptance. Accepting the fact that you are out of personal and vacation time and you just have to soldier through. Wednesday; Introspective day. The cusp of the week when you look behind you and ahead of you and know you are now halfway across the journey. Thursday; The day of hope. A time when you start planning the next weekend. Friday. A day of anxiety. Where you cross your fingers that you won’t be asked to work a sixth day.

Lindsay Cadregari

1. I am all for the patreon posts. All. For them. 2. You do you, dear dad. You're glorious as is. 3. Is there an ology that you *don't* want to explore, for whatever reason? This might be a dumb question but I think you are a smart person.

Adam Drake

Speaking as someone with really zero hair: you absolutely should. :) 1) What is the most difficult ologie you have as a back-burner / I'll get to that one later just due to how complicated it is to describe? (But that you can't wait to do.) If this is a secret: understood. 2) What is your portable recording setup? I am picturing a "Zoom" recorder with possibly two good mics and a handful of SD cards. Is it that simple? (Nerd question.) 3) How long does a typical episode take to complete? Removing non-recording / non-editing or mixing time.

Erica L Hinders

What are some of the favorite things you've learned/learned about? I'm also down for however frequently you want to communicate and nbd about hair being giant and big disaster, if you ask me!

Hannah Lipow

What’s been your favorite part of creating Ologies?

John Worster

If you could be a dog, what kind of dog would you be? (There is no wrong answer)

John Worster

What has someone done for you that made you the happiest?

Lucia Huntting

What's the worst and best things about making Ologies? :) Also, as a fellow giant disaster hair-haver, do you have any tips or holy grail products for taming the beast?

Mark Donahue

I just accidentally deleted my whole post! Augh! The editing system on the phone sucks

Mark Donahue

Why do some podcast hosts feel the need to come up with silly names for their listeners? Yes, I like your show, but I am not an ologite. Just like how I am not a Murderino, or any other goofy name put out there by a host or hosts.

Michelle Sullivan

It makes me so happy to see a new notification from Ologies so feel free to post whenever it suits your fancy. One of my favorite parts of each podcast is your opening line ("Hey there, it's your weird step-cousin, Hiii it's your 'ole dad here, etc.), I think they're amazing and I was just wondering if there's a story behind how you started beginning each episode like that. Thank you for making Ologies each week Alie!

Matty Sallin

Your asides are my favorite part of Ologies. More asides!

Christa and John Trexler

Post as much as you want! We all love the show, so we won’t be pissed 😉 Q: what got you so interested in Ologies? Did you have an experience growing up or an awesome teacher? I second the question above about the internship!

Mark James

Dog. ETA on dog please. You've wanted a dog since at least as long as I've been listening to you, which is about 6 years.

Mark Donahue

I know it’s a touchy subject but I can’t help but wonder if you are religious, an atheist, or somewhere in between. With your love of science and learning I would think you wouldn’t be, but who knows? Personally, I ditched my catholic upbringing over 20 years ago. The more I learned the more I knew it made zero sense. I wonder if there are any subjects at all that you are hesitant to tackle. I love your candor and willingness to talk about anything and everything. Oh, and post as much as you want. I enjoy them.

Kallie Moore

Hmmm...If you, personally, could be any ologist, what would you pick? And if you could interview any living or dead ologist, who would it be? Stay fabulous!

Edward Rajala

Questions: What are your best, and worst experiences on drugs? What was your worst breakup? What is your dream vacation?

Amy Beth Pitzer Singh

I have a "FEAROLOGY" question, instead of a "ALIE WARD" question. I have been lead to believe that there is a difference between the sweat we produce when we, as humans, are exercising or living in a really hot/humid climate and the sweat that we produce when we are under stress or are anxious or fearful. Allegedly, exercise sweat is (relatively, based on one's use of soap/personal flora/bacterial culture) not stinky, but the fear sweat IS stinky, possibly even quite stinky depending on if you are, say, a human or a dog or a bear. True or not true?

Eva

Maybe I'm a nerd, but I'm always a fan of more content? So I'm up for a couple emails a week, whether it's for episodes or otherwise, but also I feel like that may be a lot of work for you so...do whatever you want (general life advice, I guess). Questions: who is your dream living -ologist to interview (maybe someone can connect you!)? How did you get into science-related stuff in the first place--you ask the -ologisits for their backstories, what is yours?

Amy Beth Pitzer Singh

And now my Alie Ward question. . . How much do you travel for work? It seems like it must be quite a bit, and it also seems like you should live in Portland and not in LA, but what do I know? I suppose LA can use some flavour. If you travel a lot, do you have a domestic partner and how do they feel about all this travel? And is this the reason you have not committed to a dog? And, seriously, my offer to host you (and the other ologites) for the next Ologies dinner in Fiji still stands, but y'all are going to have to get your own airfare. Vegetarian Indian food is on the menu.

Coral Benjamin

What is something you’ve learned just for fun recently? What’s your favorite movie snack?

Dani Cav

What is your favorite ology as of this very moment?!

Christa Avampato

Is there an ologist or an ology that you would really love to book but have been having any trouble booking?

Olga Podobed

hi Alie! Thank you for this video! I'm glad you've made two of them, another for over 8$, otherwise I'll feel really guilty of paying only 1$ a month )). I already having an impostor syndrome coming at me for being watching this )). I was also just listening to Alison Rosen Shows old episodes with you. Your hair looks amazing! I love your podcast, you are doing a great job. I studied Metrology at uni, hated it. The teacher was psycho man bitch. I loved that Laughter-ologist, I would prefer him to be our professor. Also, I agree, when I studied something deeply and alot at university I used to lose my appetite and excitement for it, but I didn't have any chemistry so I missed it! and checked out some books to read at leisure, like chemistry textbooks for fun. was surprised at myself.
