DELTIOLOGY IS UP. Postcards, kiddos. I got giddy talking to curator Donna Braden about texting and postcards, scrubbing our lives of imperfections, and how memories form based on what we relay.

She's mellow and gentle and wonderful and I tried so hard not to swear and I only said "shit" once. I wanted to say the f word so many times but Donna is like 65 and the interview took place at a museum that employs me for CBS so I played it safe but JUST FOR THIS ONE. I won't make a habit of cleaning it up.

Yes, we talk about the history of postcards, but really it's a conversation about trying to appreciate life as it passes and connecting with others. Do you have a favorite postcard memory?

Deltiology (POSTCARDS) with Donna Braden

Why were postcards invented and why do they still exist? Why do we lie to people and say our lives are better than they are?

My favourite thing about postcards was always the wonderful way in which you could send one to your loved ones at home when on holiday and it would arrive two weeks after your return! I've not listened yet (will do very soon) but high-five for managing to only say "shit" once lol

We like to pick up postcards as a cheap souvenirs. The pictures on the are usually better than I can take!

I once found a huge box of postcards in the attic of a property my father had purchased. They were from about 1912 to 1940, all unsent, collected apparently by a couple who travelled and used postcards instead of a camera to collect their memories.
