Dear Patrons,

Here's your fortnightly roundup of the latest Epic History news and production updates...

'Voices of the Napoleonic Wars' vote

Thank you to everyone who voted in our poll to chose our 'Voices of the Napoleonic Wars' video topic. It was a close race, with 461 votes cast, but in the end The Peninsular War came through as the winner!

We're looking forward to getting started with this project, watch out for updates in future newsletters!

Production Updates

Battle of the Nile

As previously hinted at, we're working to make the next episode of Nelson's Battles even more visually spectacular. We've got an improved 3D model for our two-decker ship-of-the-line, and introducing... officers and crew!

The Brumaire Coup

Work still in progress, but here's a few sneak peeks into the world of secret meetings and conspiracies which we'll soon be entering... This one will be out in May.

One Cool History Thing

Last week I crossed the border into Wales to visit a very special historical site. The ruins of Tintern Abbey were immortalised by William Wordsworth in the title of his poem of 1798 (although the poem doesn't actually mention the ruins at all!) By coincidence, Wordsworth wrote the poem about 3 weeks before the Battle of the Nile.

The Abbey was founded in the 12th century as one of the first Cistercian communities in Britain, and in its heyday, was an extremely wealthy and important religious centre. Stripped of its rooves and ornaments during the Reformation, it remains an evocative site, beautifully situated in the Wye Valley. Trying to imagine the site in its prime gave me an idea for a new video... 'How to Build the Perfect Monastery'!

That's it for this newsletter. Thanks as ever for your amazing support. We'll be back with more updates soon.

Looking forward to these new episodes and the uptick in content coming in the next few months

I never really understood the political atmosphere during the late French Revolution period, very cool that we have the chance to look into it through the Brumaire Coup. Can’t wait for it!!

Jolly good to hear the Update Toby! Nile and Brumaire look awesome so far, regarding the Marengo Campaign (I know we aren't exactly near that but we are) it'd be nice if the Battle of Cassano got a mention (falls on the same day as my birthday ironically) interesting thing I found out about the War of the Second Coalition was that Mantua was besieged by the Austrians, but held out even shorter time in French hands - the arrival of Pal von Kray a expert in Artillery and made the French garrison surrender, many of them Poles who were deported east to Galicia after the surrender of Mantua in 1799. Ironically the siege of Mantua in 1799 lasted 4 Months compared to the first Siege which lasts 8 months.

This is awesome!!!!! Feeling like a kid on Christmas after reading this! Thanks Toby!!!

Was Haiti included as part of the poll? Would love to have more exposure of the multi-national conflict for the land during the revolution, and the alliances and friendships made, such a Touissant Louverture and Etienne Laveaux(a Burgundian ex-aristocrat and “truest friend” to Touissant)

Epic wishlist: Dissolution of the Monasteries

Gage Hardesty

Nah, only videos about the Peninsular War, A battle in the Invasion of Russia, and the study of medical care in the Napoleonic era.

Kevin Xu

Thanks! All sound great topics! Medical advances during Napoleon era is also fascinating, such as the invention of triage

Gage Hardesty

Hey Toby, honestly I can't wait for you to bring on the big moments this season, the Battle that destroys Napoleon's dreams of rebuilding Alexander the Great's advance towards India in his own version, and the coup that officially overthrows the Directory and removes the Pro-Jacobin supporters in the Council of 500 from turning Napoleon into a dangerous outlaw, all of whom will be great from your editing skills, but let's see if you can fix some of the grammar problems in your videos.

Gage Hardesty

Just looked at the Peninsular War video again from the Napoleon's Marshals video that I found out what the picture for that secret video was for, "The Battle of Albuera" judging from the pic that's on the newsletter.

TankerBricks

I believe it is. I hope that Albuera and Ocana and the Battles they mention briefly get picked up again.

Gage Hardesty

Albuera was the bloodiest battle fought in the Peninsular War as its told so I could see why they want to go over it.

Colton

I hope you follow through with “The Perfect Monastery”.
