Dear Patrons,

Welcome to Epic History Newsletter number 7!

I am keenly aware that recently there has been a lot of talk, a few teasers but no new videos! Well that trend continues, but not for long...

We currently have no fewer than SIX videos in production, and three more in development. To give you some idea of the scope and scale of our work behind the scenes, this week Charles and I have recorded scripts on the Brumaire Coup and the Battle of the Nile, while I have also been writing about the Battle of Trafalgar and the Venetian Renaissance.. because, YES, we are finally going to finish our history of La Serenissima - the glorious Republic of Venice. There has been a small but steady call for this from some hardcore Epic History viewers, and they have always had my sympathy, because I never like to leave a thing unfinished.

This week we have some sneak peeks at the Battle of Wabash, before moving on to an especially cool history thing from Harry the Editor...

Also, a moment of eerie coincidence this week. While Charles and I were recording the Battle of the Nile, we were interrupted by the chimes of an old grandfather clock in his house. He later sent a photo of the clock...

One Cool History Thing

Harry writes...

"Last weekend I visited Paris with my Mum and Grandad. This was a particularly special trip for my Grandad, a pilgrimage of kinds to visit Napoleon’s final resting place.

Having grown up on St Helena, my Grandad has had a lifelong fascination with Napoleon and we were able to fulfill one of his dreams by visiting Les Invalides. I’d recommend this to anyone with an interest in Napoleon, it was a truly remarkable building made even better by the accompanying Musée de l'Armée!

That evening we also visited Café Procope. Dating back to 1686, it claims to be the oldest cafe in Paris, and very much looks the part. Over the years it has hosted lots of interesting people, including Napoleon, Benjamin Franklin, and now my Grandad! The icing on the cake, they still have a hat that belonged to Napoleon on display, en route to the toilets..." (to the 'Waterloo'? ed.)

That's it for this edition of the newsletter. We have several videos nearing the finishing line so we will have more updates soon. And thanks as ever for supporting the channel!

It’ll be quite a shock for first time viewers to see the quality spike between part 1 and 2 of Venice But still an impressive queue of work!

Swagalag

So very excited to see the history of Venice being finished

TankerBricks

Good to hear about the updates and everything! I yearn to visit France and Northern France for certain. It'd be nice to see the places where Napoleon's 1814 Campaign happened for sure!

Ian Simpkins

I personally don't mind the wait or time in between videos as long as the production quality remains unmatched (as I know it will). Please take as much time as you need to keep the same quality. Thank you Toby & team!

Fraser Whyte

The videos are worth the wait, cannot get enough of the content from this channel: the Napoleonic series is one of my favourites on Youtube

Gage Hardesty

Honestly this is going to be so epic but try not to forget to put the Battle of Cape St. Vincent on YouTube since a lot of people haven't seen the video yet except for us patreons

Flint and Ball

I don’t mind the wait times between videos, quality is what matters which is why I support Epic History. Keep up the good work guys. I would keep gently suggesting some more content on colonial America preferably the F&I war but a good version of the AWI would be nice. As an Australian something I’ve not seen done is a look at the very interesting life of Captain James Cook. He fought in the F&I war and was there for the siege of Quebec, then received his commission to lead the SS Endeavour. Initially tasked with charting the transit of Venus it lead to him discovering and charting for GB what would become parts of New Zealand, eastern Australia and finally Hawaii - where he met his end.

The Hell on the Wabash video is going to amazing! Thank You for this Toby!

Hey in case you're going to learn up on the Nile here's something that I found out about Nelson's Navy life, at the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a particular battle where that battle which became a defeat for Nelson is when he lost his right arm to a Musketball which fractured his Humerus in several places leaving him mortally wounded but as he was coming up into the HMS Theseus to be attended by its surgeon he basically refused any help getting into the ship declaring "Let me alone! I have yet legs and one arm. Tell the surgeon to make haste and get his instruments. I know I must lose my right arm and the sooner it's off the better." Fortunately for him the operation went well with most of his right arm amputated but would be excused himself to Commodore John Thomas Duckworth for not writing longer letters due to his inability of being right handed calling his missing arm "A phantom limb" so in case you mistake him with two arms then you're wrong people.

Awesome glad we are getting Venice part 2 been waiting years for that 😂 so excited for the new videos but which come first Brumaire or Nile? Also on your cape st Vincent video shouldn’t victory be labelled as having 104 guns not 100 or was that the case only at Trafalgar?

EpicHistoryTV

It depends if you're counting carronades as guns. There isn't much consistency on this, probably myself included. At Cape St Vincent she was 100 guns plus 8 carronades. At Trafalgar she was 102 guns plus 2 carronades, but they were massive 64 pounders, which is why I think they are usually included to give 104.

Sergei

I think it's called Battle of the Wabash not Battle of Wabash

CP

So psyched for the Venice video! Any chance it'll be out by early June? I'm heading over there then 😅

EpicHistoryTV

It will be close... it's probably 5-6 weeks work.

CP

Ah, well if I get lucky then great. Still very much looking forward to it either way

Gage Hardesty

You know I just realized, to get things out of the way make the Battle of the Wabash the first to be uploaded and if maybe post the next video up the next time on Patreon. That's if you're able to do so.

Colton

Yes! I’ve been praying for you to finish the history of Venice one of these days! This truly is the best history channel ever!
