Dear Patrons,

Another week, another premiere - I am delighted to share Part 1 of our two-part series on the the 1791 Battle of the Wabash. This topic will be a little less familiar to most of us, but the story of the US republic's clashes with Native American tribes on the Northwest frontier is full of drama and eye-opening history. I hope you enjoy.

The first thing you will notice is that this series has a new voice! Nobody panic - Charles is still our main channel narrator. But I wanted to work with an American voice for such an American topic - and Chuck, like Charles, is a seasoned voice-over pro. I'm really pleased with his narration and hope you like it too. (Charles remains our go-to guy for Napoleonic and most other content.)

As always, Typos for Merch is in effect, so let us know in the comments if you spot anything - first to spot a verified typo gets any item from our merch store as a thank you prize.

There's more videos coming soon...and if you feel like watching it again, the Brumaire Coup goes live on YouTube in 10 minutes!

Thanks as always for your fantastic support and allowing us to take these deep dives into history. I hope you enjoy the video, and more updates soon!

So far I think the narrator is fine 🙂, probably will just takes some time to get used to. Charles is very much ingrained with the channel for me

Welcome to the team Chuck! I think the idea is a good one. Looking forward to the series

Victor Deleon

Amazing video, as always. Loved the narrator as well! I was not expecting back to back releases, so this is a great surprise. Thank you for the quality content, Epic History. Cheers!

Dan.Gryn

Amazing! Can’t wait for Pt. 2. Thank you!!

Johannes Fischer

Chuck has a yery good Narration going on, yery good work on your side getting him on board. C&C already sounds like a awesome Duo

Baker

Another great video. Definitely a change up with narration but Chuck did great

Richard Fernandes

Great start to this new series! And besides, welcome Chuck 🎤. Looking forward for part 2.

KuhlerKarl

Great Video! Love that you are exploring lesser known topics now and Chuck did a great Job! However, could it be that you misspelled Pennsylvania in the beginning on the map? You spelled it "Pennysylvania" and I believe thats one y too much

TankerBricks

Good video so far! I like it!

Gage Hardesty

As an American I must say I have never heard about this topic, maybe because back then the only history they talk about are the major conflicts going on at that time such as the French Revolution (an already shown topic) but cool to know.

Gage Hardesty

Uh found a typo, the State Pennsylvania has a "Y" between n and s of Pennsylvania so it'll be like Pennysylvania a complete wrong name of our state.

Gage Hardesty

Found a graphic error, the United States never had Nova Scotia in the top right of the screen around 11 seconds and Maine is just short letters not longer letters as shown

Gage Hardesty

Also I think Maine was already a state by the time the American Revolutionary War broke out.

Gage Hardesty

Found a typo at exactly 3 minutes, I think the chief had said that line a little before like around 1780 at least.

Gage Hardesty

Found a typo, at 5:39 didn't you have Lenape with an "e" not an "i"?

Gage Hardesty

For anyone who gets confused on why the Native Americans are Indians and not Native Americans dates back to the expedition of Christopher Columbus where he thought mistakenly believing he was in India lands and later termed them Indians so back then they were called Indians but now we call them natives because they're the first Americans to inherit the regions for our country.

Gage Hardesty

Found all the typos I could see (There may have been a typo with the title of the Wabash river but I'll let you guys figure that out) but overall a good topic not great but not terrible which does make it look cool to watch.

Aidan Heinz

What happened to the main narrator that makes this channel epic?

Covfefe Dotard

Love the new narrator for a more American style

Marcos Moguel

Ok I´m very pleased with the voice, more american, quite elegant.

Moncef Khassali

With full respect to the narrator, but i feel like he is just reading a book slowly, not really engaged with the viewer how Charles does. I liked the video, just think it would be greater if it was narrated better. that's my opinion of course. Keep up EHT! <3

SImon Turner

This video has a special significance for me as this was being polled when I opted to become a Patron for the Channel. Goes to show just how much time and effort you guys put into your work. Brilliant as always. Looking forward to part 2 :)

Connor Hilchie

Hearing Northwest Territories is so weird for me. In Canada we actually have a territory with that name, sandwiched between Yukon and Nunavut. I hope to one day see a video or series about Canada and our history, so few of us actually know it. Great video as always guys, looking forward to the next one

Carson

Narrator is fine, just Charles I feel like is the only voice that can absolutely nail narrating any time period.

Marley B

Um who is this voice. I feel like I’m cheating.

Flint and Ball

I always give honest feedback on this channel. I understand the change of narration but I’m not a fan. Charles is one of the most engaging narrators I’ve ever listened to and brings a lot to the channel. Given the history of North America since European settlement, a British narration is still appropriate. The content itself, as always, is excellent. My favourite period to study is 18th century America so I’m keen for anything related to this. There was a lot of nuance in the relations between European Americans and native Americans with horrible atrocities on both sides.

Kevin Chen

who the hell 😂😂😂

JDusk

I love it! I may be biased because I am an American as well, but you got a good American voice here. Using him to narrate an American topic like this was a good call, I really enjoy it. Though I feel most people won't like it because people don't like change, go figure. If I were to offer advise on the narration it would be to have the narrator up the tempo a bit. He lingers a bit too much on some words, have him speak a bit quicker and then it would be perfect!

Great video but we want Charles

Chris Goodall

Sorry to say I don’t rate Chuck. I’m sure if this was another channel then he’d be fine but Charles brings a certain gravitas to his narration and it’s that gravitas that really makes EHT what it is, in the same way that Kurzgesagt has Steve Taylor and so on - they’re an identifying part of the channel. In fact, they can sometimes be so much of an identifier for a channel that (for example) if you hear Steve Taylor’s voice on another video elsewhere, you’ll look in the comments and nearly always see people saying “hey, it’s the Kurzgesagt guy!” Lastly - this narrator just doesn’t do it for me personally. His cadence doesn’t flow well, there’s weird inflection and breaks, just doesn’t “read” as well as Charles. You gotta try new things and I’m fully on board with that but I’d be very careful about switching out your narrator in future - they’re such an integral part of your channel and an identifier for your videos.

Jacob Smith

Are there plans to continue this series after the Battle of the Wabash to also cover the subsequent Battle of Fallen Timbers?

Gage Hardesty

Maybe so you're right about that, but this is an American topic not a different country topic and while although it seems relevant to have Charles narrate the show it's best to understand the ties for narrators, you see Charles is a(n) British narrator because of his accent which is often common for areas like Europe or Africa but when it's the United States alone you have to give credit to the team for allowing someone with American links to speak the narration it can't always be Charles, I mean what if he ended up dying within a second or two (jk of course) who would be the narrator afterwards hm, and this goes for others who disapprove the narrator.

Chris Goodall

As I said I don’t disagree with the idea of changing it up for a video but my point stands on the identity of the channel and the general quality of the narrator’s speech - I much prefer Charles - by the looks of the feedback in this thread, I'm not alone in that view either :D

Blake

I like charles better... Sorry

Samuel Pattinasarane

I'm on team Chuck did good. Pacing needs improvement, aye. But the gravitas is there. Really looking forward to not only Pt. 2, but more videos on the American Indian Wars that spans more than 200 years

Stefano Lissi

Great video as always! Chuck did a good job, but pacing needs some improving

Terran Lord

I like chucks voice for this topic, thumbs up from me

ben bellamy

I’m sorry, the narrator IS good. But I’m just so used to Charles, and I feel like somethings not quite right when he’s not narrating.

Francesco Ciampa

Seeing this makes me think, it’d be epic if you guys cover the seven years war with videos from both continents. Another topic that would be awesome would be Simon Bolivars Spanish American Wars that’d be sick

PastInNumbers

Great sound but Pacing is to slow Chuck, you kno us Americans talk faster then that! lol

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks for the feedback Chris! Interesting to hear, although we have different views on this.

EpicHistoryTV

No plans at the moment. We're focused on the Battle of the Wabash - we just felt it needed a good set-up and quite a lot of context!

EpicHistoryTV

Thank you Karl! A classic typo and you've spotted it first! We'll be in touch to arrange your thank you prize.

EpicHistoryTV

Thank for the feedback Flint, interesting to hear. I like your reason for continuing with a British accent for 18th century American topics, but I suspect it's a nuance that may escape the 'wider online community'! Also - semi-seriously - have you ever tried criticising George Washington online with a British accent?!

Nigel Pierce

Same the video just didn’t really hit the same way it would have had the other guy narrated

Nigel Pierce

You don’t see bbc or Netflix switching out Sir David Attenborough everytime they change a topic so idk why this even happened. As for the video and topic great work of course Toby!

William Deere

30 sec in and I really like Chuck, but yeah a tad slow. Maybe ESL folks like this speed though.

Flint and Ball

Haha Fair point, on the other hand Washington had more than his fair share of American accented detractors in his time!

Danny Loftis

Awesome work from everybody involved. Is it bad I immediately thought of Oversimplified when Chuck said Arthur St. Clair had gout? President Washington, I cant lead the troops north, my gout is acting up 😂

Hethwill Wargames

What a nice episode. Complete ignorance on the subject from my part makes it very enticing. Very nice pace narration. GJ team !

Swagalag

I do enjoy Charles more but I think Chuck did an excellent job. Thank you for trying something new & continuing to put out high quality history content. I thoroughly enjoyed this video & can’t wait for the next installment.

allan bluman

Seems to have has a great Naval Warfare voice I don't know why just think he does.

Uaid Ez Zahhar

Hello Toby, am a little late to the video, sry about that. Also, may I ask what font was used for the 'Northwestern Confederacy' text in the vid? Looks very cool. Thank you!

EpicHistoryTV

Hi Uaid, that font is called IM FELL DW Pica (italic)

Shaun Scandrett

as always well done but I concur with many above sentiments that the pace of narration is a bit too slow.

Stuart Carver

A very different topic and very enjoyable, would be good to do some more Native American clashes during the expansion as it’s quite often overlooked. As for the narrator, he is good and does an admiral job but that doesn’t mean I agree with the change. Personally if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and given the many different nationalities histories covered using Charle’s voice I don’t really understand the change. The one time I think it improved the video was The mutiny at Opis Speech, amongst your most evocative works.

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Stuart! I think fundamentally, we want to keep trying new things, experimenting with new looks, sounds and topics. It would be easy to keep making pretty much the same video over and over - but it's not my goal for the channel!
