Dear Patrons,

A quick Napoleonic update - the next instalment of Napoleon's Marshals will be out late next week, exclusively ad-free here on Patreon first. I won't say much more about it to keep our rankings a surprise, but I think this episode may cause a stir...   hopefully I won't be pelted with rotten fruit. The preview images contain a few clues - one big clue, the others slightly more cryptic.

And also - NEW POLL TOMORROW!

I've been speaking with Simon from HistoryRebuilt.com, who created the brilliant 3D castle from our How to Build a Perfect Castle video. We're going to make another video using 3D models to explain history, and we want you to help decide the final topic. We have three very cool options for you to vote for...   All will be revealed tomorrow!

Thank you all again for your amazing support. Back tomorrow with the poll.

Toby

It’s ouidont and someone else I think ney but I’m not sure

Yousef Dughaiman

Those wounds are obviously marshal ouidont’s. There is no doubt about it😅

Stephen Wilson

How many are going to be in this one? The first one had 8 and the last one had 5.

Alex Lower

At least Oudinot stopped charging in with his sabre after 1796 - or got better at blocking - but some cuirassier's armor would've been nice. He's worse off than Andrew Jackson...

Pablo Tj

Oudinot for sure!!! ;-D

Stuart Carver

I’m guessing the 2nd picture is the surrender at lubeck but I could be wrong

EpicHistoryTV

Only 4 in this one, but it will be another c.30 min episode.

Stephen Wilson

Ok. Oudinot is definitely one. I'm guessing that the others are MacDonald, Saint-Cry, and Victor.

EpicHistoryTV

Close but not quite. Blucher's actually being released.

Pablo Tj

One issue: Loussiana was Spanish territory at the moment it was sold to the USA, not French. Napoleon took powers to sell it that he did not have!! Obviously I am Spanish....hehe

EpicHistoryTV

It had been Spanish for 40 years, but in fact it had just been transferred back to France, in 1800. But it would've been a neat trick to sell it without owning it! Maybe he could have sold Cuba to the British?!

Pablo Tj

Ok....my mistake... I would need to read more on it. I believed Spain maintained it at such moment..

Stuart Carver

Oh damn almost, that’s quite a clue though 😉

Hi Toby. Hope you're keeping well. Recently showed the whole Napoleonic series to my parents and they loved it. The Russia 1812 videos provoked the loudest responses.

EpicHistoryTV

Hey Gavin, that's great to hear, thanks for sharing. I hope your parents will share the videos with their friends!

Crown Prince Sebastian Johan of Ponte Corvo

Our friend Oudinot for sure. But since you already did Bernadotte that is not Blucher surrendering after Lubeck, so I imagine that is Victor being exchanged. I won't spoil the last one, but of all the rapid promotions for these guys in those days, this Marshal took the cake in the quickest promotion to General of Division ever. Those People's Representatives could make or break a career.

Crown Prince Sebastian Johan of Ponte Corvo

I am embarrassed to say the other two clues allude me. Louisiana Purchase, the only remote link I can think of is Bernadotte, as he was supposed to be Ambassador to the US during this time, but he was in the last video... The Battle scene looks like Italy, there are several battles featuring the storming of a fortress. So I cannot say...

Oudinot (first picture), Berthier (Fourth Picture), Saint-Cyr (Fifth Picture), Victor (Second Picture). Likely order: Saint-Cyr (12), Victor (11), Berthier (10), Oudinot (9). The first picture is obviously in the shape of Oudinot, and due to his history of being injured all the time. Berthier went to Spain on a mission in August 1800 as a diplomat, which resulted in the Treaty of San Ildefonso, ceding Louisiana to France, afterwords leading to the Louisiana Purchase. The second picture is Marshall Victor being exchanged for Marshall Blucher on February 20th, 1807, almost two weeks after the Battle of Eylau. The fifth picture has to do with the rapid promotion of Saint-Cyr, "In 1792 he was chosen a captain in a volunteer battalion, and served on the staff of General Custine. Promotion rapidly followed, and in the course of two years he rose to chef de brigade, général de brigade and général de division", via Wikipedia.

Joaquín Escobar-Dodero

Second picture could be the struggle at the bridge during the battle of Lodi, where Berthier had certain involvement. But I could be wrong.

EpicHistoryTV

I didn't mean to imply that there is one clue for each Marshal! It's a bit more random than that - you can identify 3 of the 4 Marshals from the clues in the pictures, taken together. (I'll try to make it more systematic for Marshals Part 4!)

EpicHistoryTV

Very impressive! You have three of the four - and the fourth you can't actually identify from the clues... (have to maintain some element of surprise!) (The battle scene is actually on the Rhine, but not connected to any specific Marshal. And Louisiana - one of these Marshals was earmarked to lead an expedition there in 1802.)

Just wanted to share that I became a Patreon specially for this series. I got hooked onto your Napoleon videos, and squealed when you did one on his marshals. They're amazing! Can't wait for this video to come out!

EpicHistoryTV

Thank you Seet! Great to have your support. New Marshals video out next week.

Raul

Hi Toby! Is Napoleon's Marshals part 3 coming out today?

EpicHistoryTV

Just finishing the audio mix now. Barring mishaps, should be out in 3-4 hours!
