Dear Patrons,

I hope most of you have had a chance to watch our guide How to Build a Perfect Castle. The excellent 3D modelling in that video was done by Simon from HistoryRebuilt.com, and we've been discussing what we could do as a follow-up.

Today we have three options for you...

1. How to Build the Perfect Star Fort - this option is a sequel to our castle video, showing how fortifications changed in the age of cannon. We'll show how high stone walls and keeps were replaced by bastions, earthworks and geometric designs to create murderous crossfire. We'll show examples from around the world, including the famous works of Marshal Vauban, whose designs were still in use during the Napoleonic Wars.

2. Total Guide to HMS Victory - for any fan of the film Master & Commander, Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin novels or naval warfare in general, this will be the ultimate guide to a Napoleonic ship-of-the-line. We'll explain how 18th century warships were sailed and fought, and provide a complete guide to all that baffling nautical jargon - after watching this you'll never confuse a mizzen for a jib or a top gallant for a stuns'l.

3. Welcome to the Colosseum - this will be a complete guide to the ultimate entertainment arena of the ancient world. Completed in AD 80 with a capacity up to 80,000, Rome's Colosseum was one of the greatest engineering achievements of the empire. We'll explore a reconstruction of the building, as well as the bloodthirsty spectacles it hosted: animal-hunts, executions, mock battles and gladiator fights.

I hope one of these options will excite and intrigue you! Please cast your votes now - poll will remain open for one week. Looking forward to the result...

Toby

Honestly they are all great and i wouldn't mind any of them

Kevin Xu

Star fort does sound pretty cool! I personally think you can wait on making a star fort or chateaux episode if/when paradox starts needing promotional videos for EU5 or something, might as well get the most bang for buck on that aspect

Sean Leavey

HMS Victory! Inject that into my veins. And can you cover the Battle of Trafalgar at some point too, pretty please?

Darko

18th century battleships are a topic I would very much like to know more about. Perhaps compare different styles and doctrines as well. As for star forts, I think Kevin might be on to something.

Zachary Clawson

Yesterday was the 225th anniversary of Trafalgar!! HMS Victory PLEASE

Stuart Carver

215th but yeah victory all the way

Marcos

Actually, I'd like to see them all eventually. That'd be great, particularly the Colosseum one

Michael Maley

The one about HMS Victory sounds phenomenal! I also imagine I’m not the only person who would love to see videos on Trafalgar and the Nile at some point in the future, assuming you can bear to ever make any more videos about Napoleonic history ahaha

Dan Jaggers

I would love to see the video about star forts get made as they don't get nearly as much attention or as much mystique as castles but they do have a place in the history of war for the engineering work that went into them, the various designs that emerged overtime and of course some of the famous battles they were part off. That being said I am also partial to HMS Victory and the amount of action that ship has seen, including the famous victory at Trafalgar so it would be neat to learn about the ships of that period as well, there is a reason why Britain ruled the seas for so long back then. It'd also be cool if you do a video about the battle of Trafalgar since I don't believe we've seen a naval battle video done on this channel before, it'd be cool to see one with the detail we've come to expect in a typical Napoleonic Wars video.

Mai0e

HMS Victory was destined to win because its the most flashy topic. Star Forts would be non the less very interesting, particular because there is almost no content about them around.

Sitraka Forler

Sir, i think the HSM Victory is the most thrilling one (it's like the Dreadnought ^^)

William Deere

Master and Commander is one of my favorite movies ever. So more on this era on the sea, please!

Stuart Carver

I mean I’d love to see all of them at some point. My dream would be the titanic where you use the animation to show the engines functioning so we can see all the mechanics of it

Kevin Wallace

I'm losing hard but I'm always on board for anything Roman or Greek

MMDT

I like all topics but Victory > Colloseum > Star fort

EpicHistoryTV

Ancient Rome and Greece are very close to my heart, so even if they don't win this time, we'll be going back there at some point..

Luke Henderson

Its not looking good for the star fort

Axle Ra

If you eventually do a video on star forts can you cover America's Fort Ticonderoga?

Stefanos Mitrokostas

Will the Salamis video for the 2,500th anniversary still be coming out?

EpicHistoryTV

Unfortunately the Salamis video has been delayed, as one of the key collaborators dropped out. But it will still go ahead, and will definitely be ready for the anniversary next September!

Rodger Murphy

I voted for HMS Victory but the Colesium video sounds like a winner too

Daniel Costa

I voted for HMS Victory (sounds like an amazing video) but i would also love the Colosseum!
