Glad you all are liking Naruto, I recommend sub. I can't stand the dub and can't be with you on this journey if its dub. My cringe factor would always be pegged since I know what the original VA are like and dub never does it justice or can compete with the original IMO.

Naruto dub isnt terrible but i think j is correct on this one sub is the way to go imo.

I don't have a personal investment in whether you watch sub or dub, just do whatever sounds best to you! I often forget how... silly and crude the early humor in Naruto was. Like, they're kids so it makes sense but it's kinda cringe. Also, "believe it" is just that the English VA team decided to replace the Japanese VA "dattebayo" with, I think. If I recall correctly, it's because "dattebayo" doesn't really mean anything. It's akin to someone constantly using the word "like" or "you know" to fill in space when speaking English.

I'll watch either way but I can't stand Naruto's dub voice, their mouths don't match the words as well when it's in dub, and the Japanese VA's don't sound as cartoonish. In my experience most people who prefer dub do so because of nostalgia.

I wouldn't mind dub the first time I watched Naruto was in dub and then I ended up finishing it in sub although I think sub is better I do also like the dub so I'm fine either way

( I actually don't watch Naruto reactions, but rewatching Naruto after many years with you will be fun!)

I just love Naruto dub bc of nostalgia. I will admit the dub has some translation issues in the very beginning, and I completely understand why some people prefer sub. I think dubs in general are better for comedy bc things like tone are important. It’s also easier to catch details bc you don’t have to read at the same time, you can really focus on what’s happening. Naruto is one of the shows with a good dub. At the end of the day it’s YOUR journey and you should watch it however you prefer!

Jason all I can say is Naruto can be cringy/immature at times and it's important to give it space to resolve when something comes up that's a bit immature or plot related. It's made for a younger audience so the humor and over expressive is baked in. Take a bit of a step back to absorb a wider field of view to see around the stuff catored to a young audience.

I'm confused on the English dub, why some of you say its really good, I remember I watched the first few episodes and I thought is was bad, did they redo the dub at some point with another version and there are two version out there or are we all talking about the same English dub?

Also idk if you guys remember, but when the crew & Law met Raizo the ninja on Zou, Law asked him if he could do “shadow clone jutsu”, so all the Naruto fans went a little crazy with the comments that episode!! (Me, I’m talking about me)

I'm sry but Naruto on Dub is disgraceful just as one piece you need to watch it sub , personally i cannot watch dub animes at all (Except for DBZ) but do it however you feel not the fans, ur priority comes first, if u asked me i will not watch naruto dub at any cost so im afraid i will not take part at the journey with you :( its not you!! its me , out of respect for the voice actors they doing such an amazing job and characters like sasuke naruto and more u will meet at the journey definitely hit different at SUB HF Mina daiskii ❤️

Im cool with both dub or sub. I enjoyed the show with both languages, and I will never understand how people will really try to change your opinion on how you want to watch things. Do what you want and enjoy it to the fullest.

To put in context, the Big three when they came out, Anime was not main stream so for us who watched them, we had no choice but to watch in sub because that was all there was. Crunchyroll existed as a fan subbed bootleg website along with others. Then Crunchy went legit years after the big three came out. Mainly due to them getting their butts potentially sued. Yes I remember the drama about it back then. Us OGs had to watch many anime in sub from fan subbers who had a passion to bring anime to the west with zero dollars or yen and lived on only donations. There was no corporations involved and it was a small closed nit community who enjoyed fan subbed anime. Many of the translators were Japanese student learning English and they formed these subber groups to help them learn English. Many English speakers and Japanese speaker found each other online and formed groups to bring us subbed anime for free. Then the big three got popular, corporations got involved since they can see the dollar sign potential. Anime wasn't just a Japanese thing, it became a worldwide phenomenon. Crunchyroll went legit and then years later English dub came out on Toonamie I think because of the fan subbed popularity and for many of us, there was no going back as we found the English VAs sub-par compared to the original VAs as we were use to them. Those that grew up with the dub, we can't blame them because that's what they grew up with while us OGs grew up with the fan sub with the Japanese VA's. God, I feel old AF!

Back in the Toonami days I started with dub then was forced to watch in sub when it took a year to get new episodes. I had to watch through illegal download sites in sub and I never went back. It really is better overall especially in the later part of the series. That being said, dubbed anime from that era were not bad if you compare to dubbed anime now which are just terrible.

It frustrates me how modern English dubs get written off instantly just because they aren’t the "original". Honestly, I love both versions for different reasons, and it is a shame people limit themselves due to elitism. An anime adaptation is already a massive shift from the true source material (the manga or light novel). Both the Japanese and English voice tracks are secondary layers added by a production committee later; the manga author rarely casts or directs either one. Furthermore, modern Japanese studios and directors actively review, audit, and approve English voice casting and scripts to ensure their vision translates properly. The English dub is a studio-sanctioned, official product, not an unauthorized bootleg. Plus, for anime set in Western countries, European fantasy worlds, or globalized sci-fi futures (like Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, or Ghost in the Shell), English actually fits the setting, regional slang, and lore much more naturally than Japanese does! (1/2)

Okay, upon watching it with you in dub, I admit it's actually quite good. But there is no going around the original language it was intended to be.
