Want to be the first to say: you’d really love Sam Shepard’s plays. Especially True West, Buried Child, and The Tooth of Crime. There are two great collections, 7 Plays and Fool For Love and Other Plays, but there’s also this excellent one called Fifteen One Act Plays that are this straight bullet to the head, surreal works that are his most Beckett-esque. I can’t recommend him enough. Truly one of our great American writers. He’s one of my personal heroes. Also: he’s got great short prose fiction and non-fiction. And yes, he and Cormac were friends. Shepard was invited to stay at the SFI with McCarthy after a fellowship, the only other writer invited, and also had an office there.

A bit of repetition between 6:20-6:54. You may wanna fix that before putting out for general consumption, Cliff.

I wasn’t going to read this. And now I have to read it. Thanks Clifford. By the way, I’m a big Dylan fan, and I love Brownsville Girl, co-written with Sam Shepard. Jeff

Finished a couple of days ago. It is a book that seems to require re-reading. I also felt like there was a puzzle to the book - something underneath that I am not undersanding yet. I am curious if you thought any of the conversations were overdrawn or odd. Some of the dialogue with Sheddan and the Kid was, for me, cringey and actually distracted from the tone and themes of the book. Am I misreading or misunderstanding?
