Good afternoon everyone, how goes?
My laptop died. Sturdy thing had a good run.
Waiting for replacement. Things may come a bit slower this month, but shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Wishing you a nice weekend.
1. To read soon - My Life by Benvenuto Cellini (Paid Link)
The autobiography of a renaissance sculptor and murderer.
Thanks very much to friend and patron Viperouge who suggested it be covered alongside the Sexual Personae journey.
2. A conversation with Caresse Crosby
The wife of the doomed poet Harry Crosby, who I’m reading about in Black Sun (Paid Link)
It’s a magnificent biography.
Coincidentally, I saw after I included the clip below, it turns out one of Caresse’s Assistant Editors at the Parisian Black Sun Press was Henry Miller.
On F. Scott Fitzgerald “He was very nervous about this soufflé all the time…” 🤣
3. “I gave up on Karl Ove Knausgaard after 300 pages”
I certainly didn’t, but nevertheless there are some good recommendations in here from Javier Marías.
I also need to read Edward Gibbon’s “The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” (Paid Link). It’s on the shelf.
A hypnotic shifting hazy track.
Glad to see this guy continue his work.
Been stuck in my head since its release.
5. Reflections on Writing Henry Miller
The “High Priest of Obscenity”.
Fascinating to see how he actually kept a list of authors’ styles to copy.
Features conversations with Anais Nin and Lawrence Durrell.
