I'm annoyed at how deep I went in this but Rome to Tunis is a 1 hour 10 minute flight. Rome to Paris is 1 hour 20 minutes. Coincidently, Tunis to Nice is only an hour, so like it's kinda just a little detour. (I still think staying on the plane is INSANE.

as a trans woman, something that's stood out to me about the clanker/robophobia jokes since way before they recently gained a lot of traction is that the trans and neurodivergent communities have used robot-based imagery for a long time and for similar reasons, to communicate the sense of artifice we feel in our lives. These sorts of jokes have never felt good, because even outside the new racist imagery they're adopting, they've always had ableist and transmisogynistic undertones. The worst I've ever seen it was when a clip from the Animatrix was going around Twitter, very clearly depicting the allegorical rape and murder of a trans woman, and people were reacting to it with things like "the clanker deserved it".

As someone who was recently stranded overnight in a small town in Oregon (with no open hotels and nothing to do) when my car broke down, I would have killed to be stuck in a major city/airport 😩 Maybe it’s not where you intended to be, but it’s a fun story and an interesting experience! And, if the way she said “AFRICA” is any indicator, it was a brand new continent that she had never visited — live a little!

Obviously they know what they're doing in the sense that its clearly a "joke" that is alluding to racism, but they don't have the broader cultural understanding to consider how these skits are still harmful and still in fact racist in and of itself. It's born out of ignorance in the literal sense, instead of a more overt hatred toward POCs. Intent doesn't make the action any less racist, but I think there is still a distinction to be made between *being* racist and *doing something* racist. And I think its an important distinction to make because it creates room for people to consider there racist tendencies even if they don't "feel" racist.
