I first met Jack as the Big Bad in a completely forgotten 90’s miniseries called The Supernaturals, set in an AU where every non-magic hero and villain disappeared leaving Brother Voodoo to assemble a team of Ghost Rider, Black Cat, Werewolf by Night, Satana and Gargoyle to save the world. It was rad as hell, and with every passing year I’m more and more convinced I totally imagined it.

My first Jack was Jack-7, who was a big baddie from Flash Thompson’s Venom run, and he’s actually a fully fleshed out and reoccurring character there. Flash blows up his face, he doesn’t die, and he treats Flash like he’s a friend. So when I see this whole collection of losers in its entirety, I can’t hate it, cuz MY Jack was a good one, so I love seeing more Jack O’ Lanterns. Also, my favorite joke about the team of Jacks was at the end when most of em got beat, and the last one was accused of being a fake, he later talked to himself like “but… but I’m the real Jack O Lantern. I really gotta work on my branding.” Which is so much funnier in context.

Thanks to this video I now have the headcanon that the Jack O'Lantern title is not a mantle passed down traditionally but is instead some kind of demonic curse. Some entity, maybe the "real" Jack O'Lantern of folklore, is cursing these losers into taking up his mantle over and over thinking it was their own idea and then getting them killed during their villainy.
