Good evening, my Ranma fans. Apologies for getting this out a few days after I wanted, but I had several days of time I could use on my fanfics, and I was hugely on a roll! I finished like 10,000 words a day, woo. King of Champions6is now done and off to the editor, although judging by the answers people gave to my HP questions, part of the chapter might annoy its readers LOL. Similarly, Semblance of Hope will be finished and sent off by tomorrow night. It’s an episode sized, but that will let me time to concentrate on the small story winner. After that will be the patron only winner.

Anyway, as mentioned for those of you who didn’t immediately turn away from seeing the (HP Only) tag, This is this month’s Ranma-centric questions. Amusingly though, I honestly only have questions about Stallion of the Line. I had a handful of others, but most deal with events too far in the future for a few of the fics, and others deal with fics that aren’t in the story rotation yet. Putting them in would feel too much like teasing you all, the same kind of thinking that kept me from putting Heroes of the High Seas into the present rotation.

So…

1. I have already determined that the Marines will be bringing in more officers and admirals than were involved in the canon War of the Best. I have looked at the marine with the strange robot arm from the movies, Zoro’s friend and the marines from the Fifth movie (I think it’s the fifth? The one with the demon sword).  But I am wondering what the meteor user – the blind swordsman- and his fellow newbie were doing at this point?

2. There are two characters whose reaction to events in the war I am having trouble with: Mihawk and Doffy.

a. Would Mihawk fight to the last for the marines even if he can see that they are losing or if their plans go awry before the first shot is even fired? Or would he cut his loses and retreat, and if so, when?

b. Similarly I have to wonder about Doffy. If the battle doesn’t go down at Marineford like planned, would he simply leave? If the Marines demanded it, would he bend and bring along his crew to add their firepower? And if the battle does turn, when would he try to take advantage, near the end of the battle or the instant he senses the marines might lose? Would he just leave, or join in on beating the marines?

3. Are there any other pirates that could theoretically be lifted to Shichibukai status that you would like to see involved in this war? You all can include pirates not introduced at this point in canon, pirates allied with one of the Yonko or from the movies. I’ve shown previously I am not going to turn my nose up at movie-only characters.

4. While I know that he truly joined the crew in canon, I am debating on letting Jinbei and his crew become the third allied group of Raffy’s forces. This way I can bring him in occasionally, he remains an ally, and yet isn’t a main character, letting me concentrate further on the main characters. Thoughts?

5. Usopp. Should he join the crew? Or, better, become part of Jinbei’s crew and thus an ally? I… REALLLY do not like his character in some ways before the timeskip. After, he is much better, but even then, I don’t know if he would fit in with the crew as is. And I think he would have as many issues with Raffy as Nami has had in the past occasionally.

Fujitora and Green Bull haven’t been recruited into the marines yet

1) Don't know enough about canon to comment. 2a) My understanding of his personality is that while outwardly calm, he deeply desires competition and challenges. If there are no worthy opponents, Mihawk might just cut and run out of boredom. If the pirates manage to impress him, he will fight them just to test himself. Those most likely to interest him are Whitebeard and Luffy, but Zorro is a lot stronger in this timeline; not enough to really threaten Mihawk, but maybe enough to interest him. Mohawk has occasionally shown interest in people who show talent, and he might offer to train Zorro up. Again, if Mihawk is bored, there is a good chance he'll leave, especially since he's starting to regret becoming a shichibukai. When they were disbanded in canon, he was actually excited, because, without the WG's backing, more opponents would be willing to challenge him. 2b) Don't know. 3) Can't think of any right now, I might look into it. 4) So long as Luffy learns some Fishman Karate from him, I'm good with that. 5) Maybe find a way to mature his personality outside of canon, then have him join the crew. I don't know how well he'd fit in with Jinbei's crew either.

Doffy would hands down leave the marines out to dry in the fight and Mohawk would probably just leave if it goes dofferent neither of them actually care that much about the marines

1. Issho/Fujitora (the gravity guy, not meteors), was actually not part of the Marines until the Military Draft in the wake of the War of the Best, so a non-entity here unless you abandon his canon motivations for joining (restoring True Justice to the Marines). Ryokugyu (the other new Admiral) was a part of the Marines at this point. His powers are over Wood which is why he was absent--other than his ability to use Rokushiki and Haki (which are implied to have been weak at this point) he would have been more of a liability than an asset at Marinford due to the lack of his element to manipulate. 2. Both Mihawk and Doffy would cut their loses. Each are only using the position of Warlord for their own purposes. Mihawk so he isn't hassled needlessly by those he considers beneath him, and Doffy for access to what he considers his birthright (and for the WeeGee to look the other way regarding Dressrosa). 3. You basically have given Evie the roll of Helmsman which is the post Jinbe fills in canon, so I can see arguments for either way. If Jinbe joins the main crew he'd be even MORE effective a helmsman because Evie can just respond directly to his commands. But, conversely, the combo of Jinbe's water current manipulation, Nami's weather reading, and Evie's ability to just make the adjustments to the ship's rigging as needed might make them too OP in sea battles unless facing ridiculously overwhelming odds. 4. I think including Ussop could be interesting and worthwhile. He's been travelling with Buggy and Alvida to date, which has shaped him into a fairly different person than he was at this point in canon. More self-assured, less cocky, less cowardly, and more open to the sort of lethal measures this version of the Straw Hats are willing to use. Plus, and this is what sells it in my mind, he's a natural and better sharpshooter/marksman than Makino which is the role she's brought to the crew so far (even with Lalo joining). It would force her to even further reevaluate her reasons for joining, and what she can bring to the crew. I think it would promote more growth in Makino's true skill as a Jack of All Trades. Force her to get better despite what she considers to be her limits and "lack of natural talent." Or otherwise inspire her to find her own niche that can make her as dangerous despite those limitations, if they actually wind up being more concrete rather than mental blocks. That's my two cents on the questions, at least.

1. I just watched the dressrosa arc in the anime, so I while I can say that Admirals Fujitora and Greenbull haven't been drafted into the marines yet, I have no idea what they're doing at this point in time. Though I do believe that Fujitora has already blinded himself. This is the story that made me want to start watching one piece, by the way. As far as the other marines go, I haven't seen the movies yet so while I know that the guy with the robot arm is zephyr, or "Z", I have no idea who you're talking about with the demon sword. 2a. I have no idea how far mihawk would go to help the world government or the marines. I mean he is a warlord so he is at least willing to work with them a little bit. The only four things I can remember that he has done is that he interacted with shanks a little bit, he trained zoro, and he decimated the krieg pirates. 2b. Once again, having just watched dressrosa, I can tell you that I haven't hated a crew in one piece as much as I have the donquixote pirates. I wanted almost every single one of them to die after their first interaction with the straw hats. I only ask that if you do involve them that at least a few of them die painfully. Especially dellinger. Eff that guy. 3. You could consider any of the worst generation that haven't already been killed off. The again the wg might be desperate, but the only ones at this point that might be seen as worth it are law and kid. And they'd have to be really desperate for kid. There's brownbeard and peachbeard, but I don't remember anything about peachbeard besides his name. Plus, there's weevil if, of course, he'd be willing to fight his "father". 4. For Jinbei, I obviously haven't gotten to whole cake island yet where he broke from Big Mom, but I'm unsure of the circumstances of his crew at that point, or even where I am in the anime. I mean, he didn't have his crew with him on Fishman Island, so is he working for Big Mom by himself? I mean, I've never even seen him actually in the presence of his crew, not including flashbacks, and in most of those Fisher Tiger was still Captain. Also, I was under the impression that Eve would probably take over the role of helmsman if she hadn't already. 5. Oh, the big question. I agree with you 100% about Usopp. Even the scenes that everyone says are his best scenes only make me hate him more. Water 7. He put more effort into that fight than he ever did in any other fight pre timeskip. He was able to give luffy some serious trouble by setting up the battle field. Did we ever see that level of forethought before or since? No of course not! They might actually hurt him permanently unlike luffy. Dressrosa. He blatantly told the dwarves "You can count on me" when he had no intention of helping them if it got dangerous. When he was running away, and the dwarves were begging him to save them, he thought they were idiots for trusting him. After Robin got turned into a toy, I thought that was one of those rare occasions where Usopp gets to save the day. Nope, there was a whole episode of Usopp running away. And when he finally does take down sugar, he does it by accident... Sorry for the rant. I don't like Usopp. Edit: I've now gotten further in the anime, so I know I was wrong about Jinbei not working with the Sun pirates.

1. Don't know enough background lore to comment for them. 2a. I believe it will boil down to what kind of fights he will be getting into if he stays vs if he goes, will he get to face worthy opponents if the plan goes awry straight off or will he have to face more chaff and be sidelined. 2b. Doffy depends on what he can get the most out of it for himself and his goals, the moment staying threatens this then he is likely to retreat as quickly/ believably as he can. If he can also maintain some standing with the marines whilst doing so all the better in his mind. Both of them will also be weighing the risks of staying when they realise not only is Garp no longer around, Akainu and those like him are more likely to be politically empowered going forwards. 3. I can't really think of candidates off the top of my head, what I could possibly see is either Kaido of Big Mom sending an Underling/ ally to infiltrate the Shichibukai in order to get more up-to-date info going forwards. 4. I like the sound of this especially if it encourages further training and team ups with the different crews, showing just how dangerous the three crews together can be. 5.My thoughts are to have him either join an allied crew later after say Dresrosa, thus having him stand out more compared to some of them. Or possibly have him as a rival as sorts that pushes Makino/Laki to improve they sharpshooter skills further.....

1. both of them were brought in together, and were almost brand new to the marines, or at least received a rather massive promotion, when they were brought up to the rank of Admiral, as they very clearly had a long lasting friendship even before becoming Admirals; so whatever they were doing, they were doing it mostly together; although wether or not they were already Marines at this point is anyone's guess as far as I can tell; as they weren't prominent enough at the time to be forced to make an appearance at Marineford during the War of the Best. 2. a. even in the OTL Marineford War, Mihawk was clearly not going all out; and given that he disappeared before the end, he was very much only there to do the minimum amount required of him as a participating Warlord with his sort of reputation. saying that, he would likely not withdraw immediately upon sensing that the Marines might loose, but would withdraw after that at the first viable excuse given. after all, Mihawk became a Warlord so that he would be left alone, both by the marines by those that would have otherwise come after him just for his bounty, and therefore he will do just enough that he can continue to be left alone by the riff raff, and to that end he will at least stay until things are chaotic enough that he can slip away without the WG wondering why he didn't stick around. but yea, he wouldn't fight to the death, as his life is worth more than his position, and unless his pride as the best swordsman is seriously under threat, he probably wouldn't stick around for longer than necessary; saying that, he probably wouldn't leave immedately. b. Doffy would likely just leave as soon as it was clear that things weren't going his way, as as a former World Noble there isn't much that the marines could do to stop him; saying that, if he saw a way to push his goals through despite that, he would likely at least make an attempt to do so; and to that end he might bring along a portion of his crew if he thought that that would better serve his goals. after all, Doflamingo became a Warlord because it was convenient for him and stopped random people from interfering with his plans, so he will continue to at least ape being a Warlord so long as it is convenient for him; and currently? his plans are still a ways off from completion, so he will do whatever better serves his goals, even if that means pulling a few favors to get away with leaving early; mind you, if he thought that he couldn't that, I could certainly see him bringing in more support from his end to increase the odds of his goals being accomplished, even if said goal need to turn into him getting away so that he can continue with the other parts of his plan. 3. in terms of movie-based characters, Shiki is getting up there in age, and both would be questionable as a Warlord due to the fact that he is a past escapee from Impel Down who has spent the past 20 years essentially hiding from the world; although if the World Government discovered where he was hiding and struck a deal at almost any point in that timeframe instead of just cleaning up said stain, I could see him becoming a Warlord. while Z's goal in his movie doesn't really make sense given information that was revealed later in the manga, and didn't really make sense at the time, he is a very cool character and would make for a wonderful addition to the Warlord roster, especially given his sheer hatred of pirates(despite technically being amongst their number since whatever made him an ex-admiral). Gild Tesoro, if he exists in this version of One Piece, already has a completely different relationship with the World Government that comes with its own form of neutrality, and is not the sort of figure that would want to become a Warlord, as he technically isn't a Pirate in the first place. on the other hand, I could certainly see Daouglas Bullet becoming a Warlord if he actually thought that it would get him a few more good fights, as that seems to be all that he wanted. Uta is a performer/popstar, not a pirate. 4. Jinbei, and his crew, would make for a wonderful ally if he isn't made a full crew member, as he and his crew has the correct overall mindset alongside lots of key information on the New World. note that his ability to read the currents is less important with Raffy's ship, what with its screw-driver propulsion allowing for the Straw hats to at least somewhat ignore the currents in this version of things. also note that in the Anime, and the Manga, Jinbei was essentially an ally with a crew of his own for a long, long time before he was an actual crew member. here, depending on how things go down the line(after Raffy and his crew reach the New World) he could either fully join in the crew as he did in the OTL, or remain 'just' an important ally- it's honestly up to you. 5. sad as it is to say, Usopp doesn't make sense as a member of this Straw Hat crew, what with two other people already filling in his general role. wether or not he becomes fully a part of an allied crew, or just remains part of a crew that's close enough to the main events to have the occasional cameo when it makes sense, is up to you.

Middlemoe2

Okay, I can only answer questions 4 and 5. So, I think Jinbei should be an ally to Ranma and I think in this story Usopp was not given enough for me to care about him at all right now. So if he's with Jinbei that's fine, but I can not see him onboard the Resolve.

1. Fujitora the blind swordsman was running a dojo until he was recruited by the Lava guy, while Green Bull’s origin hasn’t been confirmed it is theorized that he was a bounty hunter in the new world either way the only reason those two joined is because they were given the rank of admiral and there can only be 3 admirals. Zoro’s friend with the demon sword was only a captain level that’s bottom of the barrel at the war of the best So the guy with the metal arm from the movie his name is Zephyr and at this point in time he has not lost his arm that happens one year after the war of the best, though he is functionally retired from the marines an acts as the special instructor for their elite class he turned against the marines after they promoted weevil to a warlord even after he attacked the the elite classes ship cut off Zephyrs arm and killed all the students. 2. No Mihawk would not fight to the last he doesn’t even like the marines he’s a warlord because it’s convenient. If he thinks that they’re gonna lose it no longer becomes convenient to side with them and he would happily walk off though he wouldn’t turn against them then because that would be beneath him. As for Doflamingo he would keep fighting as long as he was able to keep killing though if he thought the marines were going to lose he would simply prepare an escape route. Doflamingo is the kind of character who honestly just wants to see the world burn

GreedOnGreed

Issho is not yet part of the Marines but he could decide to join the Neo Marines if it will be led by Garp. I think Mihawk will stand by and when he is pushed to participate Mihawk will just stand in the way of the strongest opposing swordsman for the duration of the war. Doffy would bring his own crew if he got paid, he would definitely join the war for his amusement, it wouldn't surprise me if Flamingo would stay in the rear puppeting the dead and wounded including those of the marines. In Impel Down there are plenty of pirates who can be persuaded to fight for a price or forced to hold their loved ones hostage. The alliance is fine because in this way Jinbei and Hancock can help each other against the retaliation of the world government. Making Usopp join Bonney's crew? I think he would like to be able to change his age and maybe Usopp regrets joining Buggy's crew because he doesn't strike me as the type to enjoy rape and murder.

1. You could include Vergo, he wasn’t at the original war of the best. On top of the marines you could also bring in the crews of the warlords. Once we learned about Doffys crew it was weird to me that he didn’t at least being Pica for backup. 2. I think Mihawk would stay even if things were going south. He’s been one of the most diligent warlords as far as attending meetings goes so I think he takes his commitments seriously. The only thing that could make him dip out before it’s done would be if multiple admirals go down. I think Doflamingo would stick around until he gets injured. Given all the deals he has I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a connect in whitebeards crew to get him out that way if he needs to escape from the battle that way. 3. Cavendish could be a new warlord, he was a rookie a year before the supernovas so he’s already made a name for himself at this point. Who’s who and Black Maria could also work. We don’t know when they joined the beast pirates. 4. Jimbei would be a solid ally. 5. I could see Usopp getting fed up with his own behavior and redefining himself as Sogeking. Never leaving the persona and then becoming an ally down the line. Maybe at fishman island or punk hazard?

NTLuck

I think the problem with characters not appearing for the big fight is that they are most likely needed in the New World. Kaido, Shanks and Linlin need constant monitoring and if the Marines pull ALL of their big wigs from the New World to fight Whitebeard they risk losing a lot of ground and kingdoms to the Emperors Mihawk will probably go after the strongest swordsman and duel him till the war is over. He may potentially surrender if its to a friend knowing that they will treat him well. Or if shit is really hitting the fan he may just retreat himself provided he finishes his duel in a satisfactory way. Doffy would bring his full force provided he's payed enough. Although from what I understand he is absolutely terrified of Kaido. So let's assume the marines pull even more men from the New World and Kaido wants to expand. If Kaido tells Doffy to weaken the marines further by not helping them then Doffy will oblige. Jinbei as an ally is great. This way you have an ally that can easily come and go between Paradise and the New World. Besides, Hancock will need allies of her own as well and they both respect each other so that's a plus. You have already set the steps for Ussop to evolve as a character differently from canon. He uses a customized sniper rifle and while still a bit cowardly he's much braver now. Still, the Strawhats already have snipers in the form of Laki and Makino and craftsmen in Laki and Franky. Ussop would be redundant so perhaps he joins a different crew? Not sure about Jinbei though

Braeden1002

I think it comes down to what rank they are and how strong they were at that point. The reason I say that is Whitebeard’s crew are stronger than the vast majority of the rank and file and would tear through so many of them quickly. I think it would be better if the marines that we see in the fight are ones that have been stationed and survived in the New World. Honestly Mihawk seems as if he was just going through the motions during the fight and not actually trying. He might test Zorro, if he is there, but other than that once it becomes definitive that the Marines or the Pirates are going to lose without his help I can thing him just walking away. For Doffy I do not think that he would bring his crew and even if he did, he would not have them commit themselves to the battle and would more than likely use his strings on anyone to sow more chaos and confusion. And the moment that the Marines were to look as if they were going to lose, he would just leave, which is why I think he would not bring his crew as it is easier for him to leave without anyone else. I honestly do not care if Jinbei joins the crew or not and having him as an allied crew does make more sense. I felt he was only added to the crew to add to the overall strength of the backup characters and to add a dedicated helmsman. But I do like the idea of adding someone from Fish-Man Island to the crew and exploring things with a character that way. Either a Fish-Man or a Mermaid that has no affiliation to the royal family or Jinbei’s crew. I do not want Usopp to join the crew. Yes, he does become better after the time skip and is not a spineless coward and traveling with Buggy as he did would mean that this Usopp is completely different to the one that we encounter in the original story. But we sort of do not need him as his character would not add anything to the crew, not personality or being a sniper since we have Laki. I do agree that he would have a lot of problems with Raffy, his personality and the training he would want to put him through. He could either join Jinbei’s crew or if he makes an appearance Shanks’ to be with his father.

Hiryo

1.) Was already answered by others here better than I could. 2.) A) Mihawk. For him having a challenge, ie is still fighting a fight he enjoys would be more important. He needed challenges. And what interests him in fighting/testing out strong opponents may weight more. However if those are satisfied, he would flee then. B) Doflamingo: As long as he can get benefits/stays on top/sees a way to win he would stay. 3.) No Opinion on that one. 4.) Jinbei being ‘only an allied force would be too weak a message and danger for the future. Him joining him should be still done, however he can be ordered to handle the other forces due his great capabilities! 5.) As is, and how the crew came to be and your writing style is. I think him already joining Buggy and aligning him with him would be poor a heart that he stops suddenly wanting to be with the crew. As said I’m against him joining.

Novus

1. I don't know enough about the movies and such to really suggest anyone. 2a. I never got the impression Mihawk had any real loyalty to the Marines. It always seemed to me that he basically just thought of his title as a way to prevent the Marines from annoying him constantly. More...I'm honestly shocked if he's even present at all. Assuming he was around for Garp going ape-shit, I can't imagine his reaction having been anything but either: NOPE! I'm OUT! or SWEET, I GET TO FIGHT HIM! With little room in between. Meaning he's either dead, nursing serious injuries, or has fucked off from the area entirely. That, of course, is assuming he was present. If he wasn't, then it's a bit of a toss up. The Marines have done several colossally stupid things in rapid succession, weakening themselves to the point that I'm not sure he'd bother supporting them. They aren't going to be in any shape to protest his ignoring them for a long long time, after all. Even if they somehow still come out on top at Marineford. b. Doffy doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. I think he'd most likely just not show at all. The marines have lost too much firepower to be capable of compelling him. 3. Honestly? No. Not a single one I can think of. Or, more to the point, anyone with the power to promoted to that status wouldn't agree to be in the first place. In order to be powerful enough to receive that offer...they have to already BE powerful. And powerful pirates aren't exactly known to be willing to swing around to following the marines. Most of the warlords in canon were either compelled by a need to defend some place (Hancock and Jinbei) or were basically using it as a cover so they wouldn't be bothered while they ran their take-over-the-world scheme (Doffy, Croc, Moria, Kuma). Literally the only exception in the starting warlord set was Mihawk. Who, as I already pointed out, seemed to always just regard the position as a way not to be constantly bothered. 4. I honestly think you're on the right track with that idea. Trying to make too many main characters slows pacing down (as happened with A Third Path to the Future a lot of the time). And, in-story, if Raffy is going to be taken seriously as a new Yonko, gathering another powerful captain/crew under him is far more valuable than a single additional crewman. 5. Literally any option that keeps him away from being a main character is a great option. Always hated Usopp, even if he did get a bit better post timeskip. If you go with Jinbei being a supporting Captain of his own crew, adding him to that crew makes a LOT of sense. It would actually give Usopp what he was always looking for, even more so than canon really, while keeping him from becoming a major character -_-.
