klaire

sorry that option is supposed to be Apocalypse Now

David Edwards

Inglorious Basterds is sooo gooodddd. It’s that or JoJo rabbit for me, but I wouldn’t mind a 20th rewatch of Tarantinos best film imo

Kolor Kode

JoJo rabbit is not your typical war movie but it's brilliant

CaveMan

or .... next week maybe 😃

dowen0wen

Love these but 1917 for me purely because of the one shot takes they did, absolutely brilliant

P.J

Hey - with the whole 'wheel spinning to pick a genre' thing are you going to make sure to do a different genre per week or if the wheel picks the same genre on consecutive weeks is the wheel's decision final?

Craig Fowler

Any plans to watch an often quoted best movie ever and my personal favourite, Shawshank Redemption

klaire

i will make sure there is variety!

jj pvp

Hope inglorious bastard wins it’s a masterpiece

Sam White

Shame because all quiet on the western front is probably the best war movie of the lot

Tim Atkins

About to create 20 patreon accounts to get 1917 over the line

Patriot Rebel

I am still hoping you will do the mini series Band of Brothers very soon! The best mini series ever made!!

dowen0wen

I can absolutely vouch for this. The intro itself can make you teary

Brian Sheely

Schindler’s List, Inglourious Bastards, and Jojo Rabbit aren’t actually war movies. Having WWII as a backdrop doesn’t make a film a war movie. If it did, The Pianist would be a war movie. But that’s a distinction not everyone on here is able to comprehend.

Aidan

Do it mate 😅

Kawaii Leonard

That's because it's not a war movie.

Kolor Kode

Well it's got an IMDB tag of war and Hitller's in it, it's close enough now isn't it flower?

Deano_Deano

It's not that deep. It's merely a way of getting a small number of films into a poll that have a rough genre, rather than having people voting on every film ever, every week.

Karl

Yes, BoB is quality

Karl

Weird to me how the voting has fallen… Apocalypse Now is the best film on this list by a country mile. Inglorious Basterds is pretty meh compared to better Tarantino films. Hey ho, happy Sunday.

Rune Gade Larsson

I would love to know if she has ever seen Band of Brothers. As you say, it’s the best mini series ever made ! And Chernobyl, have you seen Chernobyl Klaire? 👀

David Girard

I can’t stand Inglourious bastards

David Girard

Schindler’s list is a way better movie

Brian Sheely

Having genres is a great idea. However, a lot of people seem to lack the ability to correctly categorize films by genre. Of course, it could be that they’re just not willing to follow any guidelines.

Patriot Rebel

OOH, Chernobyl is another good one, but BoB first please!

Clay F

Depends how narrowly or how broadly you define "war" genre. The Google page for Schindler's List gives the genre as "war/drama." The Google page for The Pianist gives the genre as "war/drama."

Clay F

I love JoJo Rabbit but I voted Schindler's List with Apocalypse Now my second choice. FMJ and Braveheart also great. You did a good job constructing the poll. Not a bad choice in the poll with Troy being the only weak entry imo.

Clay F

+1 for Shawshank Redemption

Brian Sheely

First of all, Google isn’t an authority on anything. IMDB does not list war in the 10 different genres used to categorize Schindler’s List. Thus, it’s accurate to say it’s not a war movie.

Sujan Ra

Does anyone know when Klaire will react to the winner of this poll

Mik

I don't think war has to literally mean people shooting guns at each other. Schindler's List is EXTREMELY connected to war, i mean, its about one of if not the most significant elements of WW2, everything about it connects to war. Who cares what it is or isn't technically classed as, it very obviously heavily revolves around war.

Mik

17th jan

Bonjornoe

fargoboyle .

Seeing the what will win I'll skip this week, enjoy for those who wish to watch. Wait for the next one

Clay F

Brian -- I will go with Google over you. For people who "seem to lack the ability to correctly categorize films by genre," look in the mirror. But I agree depends on how war genre is defined. How broad. How narrow. Schindler's List is fundamentally a war film, specifically set during World War II and depicting the horrors of the Holocaust, and can be categorized as a historical drama or biographical film because it focuses on civilian suffering, genocide, and human resilience in the context of war, rather than combat or military strategy. Schindler's List is directly tied to World War II and its atrocities, featuring Nazis and the systematic persecution of Jews. Schindler's List explores the impact of war on civilians and the moral complexities within a conflict zone. Schindler's List is undeniably a war film in its context, themes, and profound depiction of wartime suffering, and additionally has historical and dramatic elements. Plex genre = Drama, History, War, Biography Letterboxd genres = History, Drama, War Google page genre = war/drama Library of Congress genre = Historical re-creations, War films

Tax2er

No war movies? Are they set during a war? Yes. Does the movie show effects or consequences on the featuring characters due to this war? Yes.

Brian Sheely

Using your criteria, The Sound of Music is a war movie because it meets both criteria.
