Jaehaerys, not Jaenerys FYI ☺️

Lalo Salamanca

The woman who played Queen Aemma, the one who died last episode, was born in the same City as me in England. Went to my school too about 20 years before me. Was very cool when I saw that on the local news when this came out.

Kawaii Leonard

Just an FYI regarding the sets, this was filmed during the height of the COVID19 pandemic (2020), so they couldn't film with huge crowds. The Kingslanding set is basically the Warner Brothers England studio set they built in a building. They have behind the scenes tours of the city they built for the show, it doesn't look half bad.

Cassandra

Vhagar is around 160 years old give or take at this point

Cassandra

Daenerys dragons were not supposed to be that big given their ages, Dany’s dragons in the books at this point are smaller than Syrax

Kawaii Leonard

Regarding Vhagar, so the Targaryens start their calendar at year zero (or 0AC, After conquest). When Aegon the conqueror conquered Wetseros. We are in year 112 AC at the episode 1. Vhagar was ridden by Aegon's sister, Visenya Targaryen and he was already an adult dragon at the the conquest in year 0. Vhagar is around 160 years old right now. A very old dragon, a grandma dragon by now.

Good episode. It's always fun to see Klaire's thought process quietly forming in her head :p

Lots to be discovered

You're in for a treat watching Paddy Considine's performance as Viserys as the season progresses. GRRM apparently texted him after watching saying "Your Viserys is better than my Viserys."

Remember that each episode has some type of time skip I believe so keep your ears open for a mention of how much time has passed since the last ep!

I love how into the lore and map you get lol. Regarding your end of video questions, the Triarchy is made up of the free cities of Myr, Lys, and Tyrosh. Also, Corlys used “Second Sons” as a turn of phrase, they will not be establishing the mercenary company we see in GoT. In fact, those Second Sons were founded around 100 years before Aegon’s Conquest, so well beyond the scope of this story.

Alicent is older than Rhaenyra.

The Doom of Valyria sounded quite epic in Histories & Lore. I hope that they do put that on television.

I am really happy that you’re enjoying the show I look forward to watching these videos and the Game of Thrones videos

klaire

ah darn that would have been pretty epic

klaire

ah i see since the last seasons weren't in the book they just did that for the purpose of the show

klaire

ahhhh yes, no its not bad but somehow it is lacking the same immersion, i cant explain it. i think ill do a side by side comparison of shots to talk about the details lol

klaire

whoops lol sometimes when write h the little tail isn't long enough

I was hooked on Game of Thrones by the end of the very first episode. With House of the Dragon, it took twice as long.

Yeah Corlys just used second sons for them, cause they need to literally do something if they want some glory and do not get it like higher up houses just for being born. House Velaryon is the closest ally of the Targaryens since before the Conquest, but they do not have a lord paramount status or any big vassals underneath them. The close ties to the throne kept them around the court, mostly as masters of ships. Corlys is really the one who made them into a major player.

Jonathan Blaze

Bloodstone is on that map, but it's not highlighted. It's directly under Greenstone in the Stepstones area.

Adams

the master of ships in got was Stanis when robert was alive and then Aurane Waters (bastard of house Velaryon) he is important in the books but doesnt appear in the show

Veya

regarding the set immersion, frankly that probably has more to do with the camera being used and aspect ratio (this show uses a wider one so it can feel more cinematic) rather than the actual costumes and sets. the show uses some of the same set people who have worked on thrones. however both shows use different cameras (and even game of thrones changed cameras during it's run so the early seasons don't look like the later seasons). also most of the backlash for this show is mainly for the second season not the first season (and in fact there's some elements in the first season that george liked better than what's in the book). he disagreed with some adaption choices later on. the reviews for both shows are still good overall.

Fyi, the intro animation is actually the family tree (or blood tree?) of house targaryen up to this point. Each of the circles on the sculpture represent each member by a symbol of their, for instance viserys has a crown and rhaenyra has her necklace pendant. It also updates as the show goes along. Not sure if anyone already told you as i'm catching up but i thought it was a cool detail for itk book nerds, like myself, to dissect
