Ooooooooooh so much nuance to this episode! (Also, apologies if you can hear the vacuum in the background. Couldn't be helped, alas).

on your question why didnt giles just wait to give the shot right before the test it has always been my belief that its wasnt just like 1 shot she loses her power but more like it had to build up in her system with many shots to starrt working which would also explain why it took so long for her powers to return the drug had to work her way out of her system

David

We saw the scene Angel was describing to Buffy last season, with Whistler flashbacks.

David

Your perspective on the test is much more forgiving than mine. I think the Watcher's Council just looks at it like "Who cares if The Slayer dies? If she does, we get a fresh one. If this slayer isn't good enough, it's better that we keep getting new ones until we find one who is special even among slayers."

Garrick Smalley

I like your thought of this being a comparison with the Wakandan rite of passage. I am more biased and think this is a form of control over the slayer. If she dies then the next one is called and is more compliant.

Ben

Kralik is a great villain but man I hate watching Giles do that, especially when Buffy was reaching out to him as a father to take her to the ice show

I have a really hard time with this one, but it is handled well by the writers. I'm curious, Jacqui took notice of the line "Look carefully for the tiny flaw at its core." I don't think we came back to that. Did that thought resolve for you later, or was it sort of superseded by the comparison with Joss himself?

I love the “I’ll kill you for that” trope. I forgot that this episode is why every time I see it in movies I think “why were you trying to kill them before.”
