“It looks amazing.” - Eric on the production design

On this week’s episode, we’re kicking off We ❤️ Movies Month with a ridiculously silly discussion about Alfred Hitchcock’s masterful peeping tom thriller, Rear Window! How gorgeous and meticulous is this set design? How hilarious is Raymond Burr’s dye job? How on earth is L.B. Jefferies ignoring Lisa’s advances this much, murderous neighbor or no? And where in New York can we get this Lobster Thermidor dish for crying out loud? PLUS: Coming soon to Peacock, the new Hitchcock Universe mash-up show, Hitchrock!

Rear Window stars James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, Judith Evelyn, Ross Bagdasarian, Georgine Darcy, Sara Berner, Frank Cady, Jesslyn Fax, Rand Harper, Irene Winston, Havis Davenport, and Raymond Burr as Lars Thorwald; directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Saw it for the first time earlier in the year and absolutely loved it so looking forward to listening! Also discovered that a joke from the Venture Bros was a direct reference to Grace Kelly's entrance which was fun.

Jacob Chisenhall

Always overjoyed to see y’all cover a Hitchcock film — I’d kill to hear an ep on “Rope” some day

Robert

The “bear blowjob” reference is one of the biggest laughs I’ve had in a long while Definitely an all-timer of an episode

Jonathan Lyons

I've always felt this way about Hitchcock: If he ever got exposed for being a scumbag like people do nowadays, it would be weird shit like "he ate an egg ominously in front of me" "He spent a long time making a sandwich. He cut the crusts off, then just ate the crusts, and then threw the sandwich away while telling me my enemies won't be the ones to betray me." "He doesn't undress me with his eyes, he dresses me, and I can tell it's not in flattering clothing." He has just always given off weird vibes to me. Like I bet tarantino would have difficulty keeping up with him somehow.

Darryl Bowen

Oh yeah...I didn't get that far into Bates Motel before checking out as well.

Darcy MacDonald

"I'm gonna eat a pack of cigarettes for lunch." This ep is an instant relisten and I'm barely 15 minutes in.

Eren Keskin

Her: I bet he's thinking about other women. Him: Why would a man leave his apartment three times on a rainy night with a suitcase and come back three times?

Tony King

I think I watched all of the first season, but couldn't tell you a thing about it.

Jan

So no spoiler warning? No i haven’t seen the movie Yes i’m an asshole

Emil Svensson

I mean, we don't have to make up quirky hypotheticals seeing as how his abhorrent behaviour towards some of his leading ladies has been well documented, with Tippi Hedren being the most obvious. In a post-Weinstein world, Hitchcock would be much more likely to see consequences for his actions.

MarkNM

Well if you've seen The Simpsons episode, you know how it ends. Just a houseplant.

Jason

Or the porno parody “It’s Not Rear Window, just their Rear.” Granted, that version does take some liberties with the source material.

johnny stocker

Grace, come over here. There's some sinister looking podcasters I want you to see!

Matt

Alfred Hitchcock at Fan Expo Dallas - "yes we can take a 'selfie' but I have to charge you forty dollars"

KRAS22

Love the cut after the "house husband" convo. Someone said something incriminating lol

Billie Jackson

Jeffries injured when race car came apart? He witnessed a Freejack? It's raining babies, the less successful follow up to It's Raining McCain.

WarOfTheBees

I immediately think of that line when I think of this movie.

jribs

I’d be so mad about Hitch Rock but wouldn’t be able to resist

Jonathan Lyons

I was wondering who was gonna bring that stuff up. That's why the hypotheticals got closer to the truth as they went on. Jesters were truth tellers for kings, not just entertainment. But I assumed someone wouldn't get the sarcasm I was going for and would try to correct me lol Everyone knows he was the proto-Kubrick lol

WarOfTheBees

What's the difference between a toddler and a baggie full of coke? Eric Clapton would never let a baggie full of coke out of his sight.

James Bergquist

C'mon guys. I'd love to greenlight for Hitchy dick's "hitch rock is filmed live in front of a studio audience"

James Bergquist

You guys did this for the imitations. Cmon

Rose Esposito

The black-and-white Edith Head dress!!!! 😭 I'll never be over it as long as I live.

Daryl Williams

Haven't listened yet but what's the over/under on how many Simpson's references will be made?

Justin Warren

I loved the shout-out to Nashville's Robert's Western World and their Recession Special - a fried baloney sandwich, a cheap can of beer, a bag a chips, and a Moonpie for $7(?) - that and the Johnny Cash museum are the only things worth doing on Broadway IMHO

I.C. Weiner

My favorite part of the Friday the Thirteenth show Andrew talked about, is from like the second episode on they abandoned their premise. Oh, this dude family annihilated his family before killing himself on Monday the 16th, but he only did it because he was fired for embezzling on Friday the 13th

Luke Gordnier

Really guys rear window: the neighbors on Amazon? That shit would be peacock exclusive.

Craig

We need a Hitchuary or something

Craig

Great episode! But I’m even more excited to be getting Star Trek VI finally. Probably my favourite ST film (yes even above Khan)

Busiris

I only just saw Rope for the first time in the past year or so and I thought it was absolutely fantastic. There are too many Hitchcock blindspots in my life and that viewing motivated me to check out some others.

Emil Svensson

I don't get how not bringing up the actual, extremely serious allegations falls under the definition of sarcasm, but okay.

Jamie

Don't they spoil every movie?

J HEASLEY

The Hitchcock impression serves into Picard territory. Not to mention the Jimmy Stewart and the Billy Campbell comparisons...

John Scrofini

This is legit one of the best episodes they've had in years. Jeff and Oppy keeping score of how many women they've driven to suicide like Legolas and Gimli had me rolling.

Watch_N_Rewatch

Always a joy to hear the Boys appreciate a movie sincerely and also nail every single impression to a T. Amazing Ep & The Simpsons EP parody of this is burned in my brain 🤣

Jonathan Lyons

Because I trusted people already knew that stuff. I would bet most people following this particular podcast would know that stuff and get what I'm saying. (This podcast is one that often makes jokes about serious things like 9/11 or Kubrick torturing Shelly on the set of the shining) If you need to virtue signal and try high roading me for no reason, go for it. And it's nice that you don't know or care that the way you're going about is cringy and a bummer, but do you. I liked your comment because it is the truth. but this is a waste of time and you get no brownie points for pointing the obvious for no actual reason (that's why I think this is just an issue you have) I'm not gonna joke about that stuff directly by bringing it up, because I can read a room but hinting that he has always been a good director but weird/bad person was my point. That even tarentino, the coke head foot fetishist would find him off-putting. I structured my comment the way it is on purpose. I'm sorry you are confused when it comes to comedy. I'll validate your morality for you. You're a fine person outside of the high road nonsense. Go back thru every episode and get weird about Kubrick and Jonathan majors, maguire, Dicaprio. Go right those wrongs and set the record straight. When the hosts joke about adam sandler almost being in inglorious basterds, how about you ask if they know that nazies are bad and how nice it is that you informed everyone about the oversight of world war 2. If this is about principles, that is. Which it doesn't feel like it is, even a little bit. but I don't know you lol maybe you're just miserable and you want people to feel what you feel. I'm not a rocket brain surgeon or even a regular surgeon. (Don't bother telling me people have tumors in their head and that stuff is very serious) You're not gonna enjoy a lot of comedy, if the tamest comment I've ever written bugs you that much. Maybe you need a break from the internet or you're having a bad day or whatever. But you should keep that energy on reddit where it belongs Sorry to ramble and if you actually read all of this, I want you to know my initial response wasn't combative. I hoped liking it would show we aren't actuslly on opposite sides of this issue. but I think you need things spelled out and explained very clearly and probably multiple times. Some people just think that way holster your guns, say "my bad" and then move on

Leesha Olivier

The set is just amazing. I love this movie so much.

profondo robbo

Another great episode. I am a little surprised that there weren't any Thelma Ritter impressions, though - accents don't get much more Brooklyn than hers.

Robert Calvillo

Great Episode! I'm hoping at least one of the WHM gang has seen the Home Movies Episode "Definite Possible Murder"

John Carpenter's Patreon Commentator

At some point in this episode all 4 guys casually drop that they think they look better than Jimmy Stewart does in this movie.

Geoff Gershon

This is definitely one of your funniest episodes! More Hitchcock please. 🙂
