EL DORADO ARC PEAKKKKK Season 2 is like a break between major arcs. Season 3 is without a doubt not just the best in Frieren but it’s among the best Anime and Manga ever.

I think Frieren will be great for longer and connect to audiences over a longer period of time, when it gets hype it makes me happy, but Frieren carves its own path to people’s hearts. Hope we still have a lot of Frieren content ahead of us!

McKay is pretty spot on, while I love the season it didn't have the same kind of impacting arcs that s1 had. If they had included the golden land arc in this season it would've been pretty identical to season 1 in terms of arc balance (probably better because of the goated golden land arc). But the likely reason they didn't do that is because of the pace the manga is being released at. Even before the current indefinite hiatus it's on it constantly went on 1-4 week long breaks. So now that it's closer to catching up they're probably splitting the anime up more to give the manga more space so we can avoid catching up to it in the future.

This season in a sense is a filler season from what I've seen people that have read the manga have said the next arc is a very long one so the studio making the anime decided to do this season as a mini arc so they could fit all on the next one into a single season instead of breaking up into 2 parts

In my personal opinion I hold this season almost equal to the first season I really enjoyed the short story aspect of the episodes I liked the world building it did and it showing in a way that not all adventures are these big epic moments but also all of these little ones that can still have an impact especially on those that they are helping just because it isn't something major to us or the main party it's still life altering to the people they are helping even if it's something as simple as building a bridge or finding a legendary liquor I also really enjoyed the little bits and pieces of stark development that we get throughout the season it felt too me like he's finally starting to come into his role as the parties warrior and gaining some confidence in his skills compared to the beginning and showing how they are going to affect the party moving forward

I really enjoyed this season but I think I liked Season 1 more overall. The stories and characters felt more memorable and emotionally impactful to me and this time around, aside from Genau, Methode, and the Hero of the South, fewer characters really left a strong impression and I just didn’t feel as connected to most of the stories. That being said it’s still one of my favorite shows it's just that this season fell a little short of the previous one imo.

I disagree with this season of JJK isn't good enough what people expected but I 100% agree with you guys about Frieren. The season 1 of Frieren was just so good. I felt it something new and there were a lot of touching scenes and crazy fight animation.

when I heard 10 episodes I knew it was the filler season I hope season 3 will go to the arc after el dorado as well, but im afraid we might be stuck with short seasons dont worry cannon theres enough content for like 3 more seasons of this length

You guys! I’m beyond happy that we have the date for THE GOLDEN LAND ARC. As a manga reader, I believe s2 is the weakest part as it’s more like a filler. Still we ate this season. I feel like you guys should read the manga and skip to chapter 80 GLA so you’ll know exactly why we are so hyped. Frieren is the only anime that made me want to read the manga until I got to golden land arc, it is out of this world. Golden Land Arc = The Height of Magic. Also I just want to thank you guys for reacting to Frieren. I had so much fun watching and rewatching with you.

Do you guys not know how wind and various weather conditions can affect flying objects? 😭 Especially when you’re going AGAINST that current..? This is like saying just because you have arms and legs and know how to swim, you can swim up a river without any problems lmao. Just because flying exists doesn’t mean you can do it in any sort of environment with no issues. Just like how planes are affected by weather conditions and even experience turbulence mid flight due to the wind. Or how birds can’t fly through an extreme weather it’s the same exact reasoning as to why mages can’t fly under conditions that can strain their bodies (or just simple physics).

LMAOOOO Jack, your beef with Togashi kills me every time. But fr, Togashi has actually been writing a lot compared to previous years — man’s improving. And honestly, if Madhouse wanted to, they could already make like 30+ new HxH episodes from the manga. We got 10 chapters in 2024, and Togashi’s been posting on X showing he’s working on the next batch, like 10–20 chapters in various stages. He’s cooking, just not that fast. People forget how insane the mangaka grind is — 15–20 hour days, constant deadlines, barely any sleep, nonstop pressure from editors and fans, and physical damage from drawing for decades. Oda literally worked himself into surgery, Horikoshi’s been hospitalized multiple times, and Togashi could barely sit upright because of chronic back issues. The job is actually brutal. Prayers up for all mangaka. 🙏

I think people think flying is more op than it actually is. Humans (or elves) don't weigh that much, and the wind can move you even when walking. So, flying isn't realistic when it's windy. Also, planes won't fly if there is a wind advisory cause it will make a rough flight, and planes are heavy. In the case of this show flying takes up mana which is not infinite so it's not realistic to fly. If you've read all that, would it spoil anything if I get them a map? McKay keeps asking for one.

as a person who enjoys dungeon meshi, slime, ascendence of bookworm, etc , frieren season two is still going strong for me. not every season needs to be peak. I enjoy it as much as I had enjoyed season 1.

So true. It is also a repurposed spell thats why they can’t just use it whenever they want. Because of that, it consumes massive amout of mana and is harder to lift objects bigger than a size of a person.

Loooove me some Frieren, probably my favourite anime you guys are watching (which I guess the last time I can say that until the next season). It still has all of the things I love from season 1, the slice of life, comedy mixed with profound moments and of course the amazing animation and music. It's such a good show to start the weekend with. I do think this season suffers compared to season 1 because it's so short, I feel like if there had been a second more cohesive arc (kind of like the last part of season 1 with the mage exam) it would have been more comparable. But alas we have to wait until October 2027 apparently.

The reason they cant fly everywhere is that it eats up their mana. Frieren said she can only fly for 30 min that means after that, she cannot do anything to defend herself.

I’m so happy we have a confirmed season 3 i was really worried with the manga news. Despite being so short i really liked this season! Ngl (and it’s probably a hot take) but i was getting a bit fatigued by the Himmel flashbacks, although i understand their importance. The Genau/Methode fights with the demons was the highlight of the season for me :)

This season was still really good, although not as good as season 1. I also think the lack of hype might’ve been due to it coming out at the same time as JJK, and obviously Frieren’s way more laid back than JJK. That said, the hype isn’t the purpose of Frieren. It’s more about living everyday normal life, like what was shown with Himmel’s memoirs. The mainstream hype is usually going to go towards whatever’s the most easily digestible, like what happened with Solo Leveling last year. And that’s not to say that the JJKs and Solo Levelings are bad, it’s just that they take less critical thought to appreciate. All that to say, Frieren is still in my top 5 anime and now I’m probably going to go read the manga

She is Ferns hero 😭 Also, the way Himmel was staring at Frieren and the smile he gave her when she looked at him in his memories had me crying like a baby. He loved her so much 😭

I was definitely a bit disappointed in this season considering season 1 is in my top 5. My biggest criticism is that the story beats and the structuring of the episodes are starting to feel repetitive. You know exactly when a Himmel flashback is coming, you know Stark is going to make the same deadpan comedic comment of "that's scary" to something silly, and characters in general have started feeling a little surface-level and one note. I hope they really start progressing the interpersonal relationships and the plot next season. I want to see Fern and Stark actually start a romantic relationship. I want to feel like we've actually come closer to Ende and Heaven and I want to see more meaningful and longer flashbacks to the OG party (similar to the one last season with the demon girl and the village). I just need a bit more meaningful drama and substance...

I think big part of why it’s not as hyped up rn is because it is competing with many other shows rn. This season is PACKED. JJKs most anticipated arc, the Finale of Fire Force, Fate SF, Hells Paradise S2, MHA Vilgilantes, the OPLA. There’s a lot of attention drawn elsewhere in ways S1 didn’t have to deal with, all Eyes were on them at the time

I believe season 1 was / is the closest thing to a masterpiece. Season 2 slowed things down and shifted the focus to further world building / character development. That Denken tease in the finale gave me chills. Considering how the story develops it's characters, I trust that the next season will cook - although, I suspect I may need to fight the urge to buy / read the manga 😬

Flight is difficult and not very effective for mages because, as Frieren mentioned in earlier episodes, it's magic stolen from Demons. For them, it's a natural ability, making it easy. Since it's a relatively new magic for humans, they are still learning the basics to it, hence stuff like "distance" and "wind" greatly effecting the quality and execution of the magic!

I agree but I also think Frieren is one of those shows that is better judged as a complete work due to the slown burn of both the story and character development. I feel like by the time the show is complete, I'll be looking back on it as one complete piece of art comprised of various arcs rather than thinking about it season by season and which ones were better. Not sure if I voiced my opinion well here but hoping my thought comes across.

I've not read the manga but I know plenty of people have + from discussion I've seen online, it seems to be almost unanimous that the arcs covered in season 3 are the best ones so far. So I am looking very forward to it.

I understand / agree. This comment was in response to Gek's comment, comparing the attention / critical reception between seasons. Comparison is natural, as it's a way of quantifying changes. For me, I was pleased with season 2; but also recognise that 10 episodes versus 20, feels more like a quality snack, versus a satisfying meal. Conclusion, we're on the same page - i.e. hungry for more, high quality, Frieren 😎

oooh, double drop! completely agree with what you guys said that season 1 gave us a lot more, but I loved everything that season 2 expanded on. it does have that dnd vibe of "weekly adventures" and I'm honestly eating it all up. the methode and fern fight scene might have been the sickest one yet! (also, Sanderson mention! did a double-take when I was reading through the comments while listening to the outro and suddenly heard his name, haha!)

Japanese work culture is toxic, sadly. And mangakas usually are in a high presure because of publish date. Almost every manga out there gets published in a magazine first before they are released in volumes and in Frieren's case it's part of the Weekly Shonen Sunday, meaning they need to get a 15-20 pages chapter out every week, of course they have help, but still it must be stressful.

I'm giving this season a 8.8, last season was pretty much a perfect 10 for me. Even though this season was incredible, it felt more episodic and the through line that keeps the narrative cohesive was kinda blurry at times. This means you could maybe swap some episodes around and it would not affect the narrative or our perception of passage of time, which is so key for a show that relies on the contrast of Frieren's long life with the short life of everyday humans.

I read a comment somewhere why they don't fly all the time, flying consumes mana, and if you get into a fight, you'll struggle with low mana, hence all the walking

Honestly, a guy liking Frieren feels like a green flag to me. It just tells me he’s thoughtful and appreciates the little emotional details.
