iirc they don't explain it in the anime but in soul society the spiritual particles are too dense for them to create footsteps under their feet or something like that. Versus when in the real world that is something that they can do easily. This explains the dialogue between Soi Fon and Yoruichi back in Soul Society about Ichigo needing the ability to "fly". Also makes sense in the sense that why they are able to do so in the real world vs Soul Society. But this isn't something I read up myself so I'm not too sure if it's factually correct.

I am tired of hearing the term hindsight merchant cause it only applies to certain characters/things. It's an opinion based term that relies on the person using the term on things they think are a result of hindsight. Which results in things like this where liking Ikkaku means it was all because you've seen the show before not because you like the character. Not everything is a result of hindsight.

I don't think most people were hind-sighting this moment with Ikkaku. When I watched Bleach for the first time a few years back, his fight with Ichigo was all I needed to really like him as a character. Granted, this moment is peak for sure, but Ikkaku's fight with Ichigo is sick enough to warrant people liking him a lot.

it's so interesting how squad 11 works. the captain can't speak to his sword or perform bankai so relies on brute force and nerfs himself with the eye patch and stuff. everyone in the squad respects him so much they copy him in different ways. from what we've seen with yumichika vs hisagi in soul society where he revealed his real zanpaktou ability and now with ikkaku concealing his bankai. they all nerf themselves. so cool from a story perspective

They're not exactly "floating" it's more that characters use their spiritual pressure to condense the free-floating spirit particles (Reishi) in the atmosphere, creating invisible solid platforms beneath their feet. This allows them to stand, walk, and leap through the sky as if it were solid ground. I don't think it works in Soul Society because of the Reishi density but it works better in the "real world" which is why you mostly see it there. I always thought it's because they're all spirits but this makes more sense haha

I love Ikakku's theme with luck. When we first got introduced to him, the first thing he did was his lucky dance. After he lost to Ichigo, he thought he was about to die and murmurs that he wasn't so lucky today after all. In the flashback this episode, Kenpachi tells him, he is lucky to have survived their fight. During their fight, Edrad thinks that Ikakku's haphazard way of fighting will get him killed if he was unlucky. And now after Ikakku defeated Edrad, he mentions how lucky he was again.

So now that you've seen this (because I didn't want to hindsight merchant) - yes Ikkaku could have beaten Ichigo quite easily. He underestimated Ichigo's spiritual pressure and was overwhelmed in Shikai, so Ichigo was able to wound him, but he didn't fight to his full potential so that he could stay in Squad 11. Also I think people figured it out but yes all that training between Ikkaku and Renji happened much earlier. Remember Renji was in Squad 5 with Aizen, but was exiled to Squad 11 where he trained with Ikkaku before he became the lieutenant in Squad 6

Also I saw this question too - Yumichika didn't call for the funeral because he didn't think Ikkaku could win; he called for it because he didn't think Ikkaku would release his Bankai (and wouldn't be able to win without doing so)

I think the longer the show goes on the more you realize that Ichigo and gang were pretty fortunate with who they encountered during the Soul Society arc, and also some of the folks they ran into took it easy on them cause they were clearly just kids. The most obvious example is Shunsui with Chad. Ikkaku could have defeated Ichigo with his Bankai back then but there was absolutely no way Ikkaku would risk revealing his Bankai to take down some human kid while in the Soul Society where everyone would have sensed him.

To be fair on the ikkaku episode, most people werent trying to tell yall his full potential (some definitely were, a dude even responded to me mentioning his bankai lol glad yall never saw that) but it was more so trying to let yall know he was directly under the lieutenant as third seat, when yall thought he was some random fodder jobber, even though he said he was a third seat at the beginning of that fight. It was meant more to help yall understand the structure of the squad, and that a third seat isnt going to be some random scrub. Of course this episode lets yall know he could be the second seat lieutenant easily, but Kenny and the childs relationship is just kind of the exception for the normal squad structure. I will defend this particular case of hindsight merchants compared to the normal one since yall glossed over the third seat mention at the time.

I love this unexpected Ikkaku focus, he's so awesome. Bro just wants to fight and die with Kenpachi and not show people his bankai cause then they'd want him to become a captain himself. Also while i admit the comments on ikkaku back then were quite annoying and unneccesary, you guys already had the "oh you hindsight merchants" when you thoguht he was epic. Now you get a new even better scene and were all obviusly both surprised and loved the bankai reveal. If he had been a bum untill this i could understand being mad but c'mon some "hindsight merchants" did not ruin this reveal unless yall just constantly bring it up yourselves.

I love the relationships the soul reapers have with each other. There have been a couple hints so far that Renji and Ikkaku are on pretty good terms with eachother. In ep 23 when nice Aizen first talks to Renji about the situation with Rukia, he mentions that Renji was in his squad (5) first, then transfered to Kenpachis squad, and recently became lieutenant in squad 6. So he has been in the same squad as Ikakku for quite some time. In ep 52 during Renjis fight with Byakuya there are little flashbacks of Kira, Yumichika and Ikkaku talking to him about his goal of surpassing Byakuya and being close with Rukia again. Then in ep 115 Ichigo asks why this group was chosen to be sent here to help with the arrancar situation. Renji explains that Rukia was chosen because she is the closest to Ichigo, Renji was chosen because he is the closest to Rukia. Then Renji was given the choice of who he wanted to bring along and he chose Ikkaku. When I watched it the first time, I thought it was kinda random for him to choose Ikkaku since we know from earlier flashbacks that he is quiet close to Kira, so I thought he would've been the more obvious choice. Or someone from his own squad even. But after putting it all together, it makes sense that he chose Ikkaku.

Renji doesn't hide his Bankai, but he had just recently achived Bankai and it takes years to really master it. During his fight with Byakuya, it is said that he is far away from actually mastering it. Whereas Ikkaku presumably has mastered it, since he had his Bankai longer than Renji. You're so right about Kenpachi, he isn't really in it for the kill, but for the love of the fight. When he first fought Ichigo, after the "first round" before Ichicgo connected with Zangetsu, he could have easily dealt the finishing blow but instead he was about to walk away without killing him.

Basically, in straight powerscaling, beating the odds doesnt exist. I understand why you guys are tired of hindsighting, but maybe it would bother you less if you just disregard the comments a bit more? I do see how this specific example is justified, but some of the viewers are getting sick of hearing about it because you bring it up so much. At the end of the day you were still all shocked by Ikaku's power and backstory, so aren't you guys the only ones getting in the way of your enjoyment with it? The Hindsighting might have seemed less major if you just ignored the people and wrote them off as salty fanboys lol. I do think though, any kind of hindsight merchanting that results in actual spoilers, like saying "X episode is so sad I can't wait for it" or shit like that, or even actual spoilers should just be an instaban lol I want you guys to have the same organic reaction I did as a teenager, but unfortunately allowing comments is always going to result in some level of hindsighting, I think it is somewhat unreasonable to expect people to all be smart and aware enough to see their own future bias before they comment. Either way, sick reaction! Ikaku has probably the coolest Bankai transformation we've seen so far in my opinion. Next would have to be Byakuyas!
