To anyone disappointed it’s not Reply 1988, I think this is a great choice to switch up the vibe a bit! Reply 1988 has the actor who played Gwan-sik, and with WLGYT still so fresh, I think it would be hard not to compare the two. They share some similar strengths, but Reply 1988 is also a much bigger time commitment. This is a nice change of pace before jumping into something like that lol

I was really hoping for Twinkling Watermelon ✨🍉 😭😭 Maybe next 🤞 I really enjoyed the first few episodes of this drama but I eventually dropped it due to finding it repetitive and slightly boring, but this was ages ago when it first came out. So, I’m ready to watch it again and hopefully finish it with you guys 😅 I do remember loving the characters and the dynamics between the characters. I think this show will be a happy change up from their usual kdramas 😆

Yeah Carter, people with autism don't like sudden loud sounds, being touched, or large crowds I think as well as maybe tight spaces such as the subway that Young-woo was on. It makes them feel a little scared and unsure at first because it overwhelms them. Certain things can easily trigger them depending on what it is. I always tried to be careful and considerate. It kind of reminds me of my days as a peer tutor in high school. It was challenging somedays but helping the students learn and see them smile and get excited felt really good. Each boy and girl were unique and special. Also, being in special education classes all through my school years, it taught me some things and I gained a new outlook on life. It teaches you patience, understanding, and to always be kind.

Geks believe it or not, at least 60% of k-dramas have the same wholesome vibe as this. People were just doing you dirty with all the k-trauma recs 💀 it’s weird that everyone expects male reactors to only like darker grittier shows. It’s going to be so nice watching this again with you guys! I’ll admit, when this drama first aired I thought it was really good and consistent, but it wasn’t my usual type of show. I found the story a little repetitive. Looking back though, I think watching it once a week alongside shows like Bleach, JoJo’s, The Walking Dead, etc is actually the perfect way to experience it. It’s a refreshing break for the middle of the week, and I know you guys are going to love it throughout! So many green flag goated characters.

Just a little bit of context since you mentioned not being very familiar with autism: one thing I really appreciate about this show is that a lot of Young-woo’s behaviors make more sense once you understand the reason behind them. For example, her love of whales is what many autistic people would call a special interest, which can be a huge source of comfort, joy, and even a way of understanding the world. The same goes for things like needing routines, being uncomfortable with certain types of touch, avoiding eye contact, or repeating words and phrases. A lot of those behaviors aren’t about being rude, distant, or uninterested. They’re often ways of processing information, managing sensory overload, or feeling safe in situations that can be overwhelming. One thing the show does well is reminding you not to judge the behavior first, which I thought you guys were very respectful about!

I was proud of Young-woo at the end with solving the case by utilizing her high intelligence and fast thinking skills with her criminal law knowledge. She gave it her very best and followed her heart through the whole trial without fatering. She was incredibly brave and strong. And it's heart-warming to see how much you guys already love her character and Jun-ho's. I knew you would. They are well-written. Both of them make a great duo and really help balance each other.

I was only dealing with it for like a month, honestly my symptoms weren’t too bad. It just felt weak and like it was gonna slip out if I lifted it overhead, I didn’t really have a lot of pain. I dislocated my shoulder when I was 15 so it was kind of just going to happen at one point, but I tore it in Florida playing sand volleyball. I’ll be in a sling for six weeks, PT for two months, and then getting back to normal activity for like another couple months after that.

Have watched the show and am part way through rewatching with a good friend; they are autistic, as most of my closest friends are, or otherwise neurodivergent; I've not been diagnosed but I strongly suspect I might be on the spectrum; if I am, it manifests in much more subtle ways than for Woo young-woo, so it's a bit hard for me to explain, but there's something incredibly affirming about her performance and the thoughtful treatment of the show and what's portrayed. Really heartwarming to experience your reactions. So stoked for more 🐋👾🌈

I don’t think autism can really be “too on the nose.” It’s a spectrum, and autistic people can present very differently from one another. What feels exaggerated to one person may be incredibly relatable to someone else. I also don’t really see Young-woo as infantilized, she’s a brilliant attorney from a prestigious university who’s highly capable, independent, and constantly proving herself. The show doesn’t ignore her struggles but it also doesn’t ignore her intelligence. And she’s not just “pretending” to have autism, she’s an actress portraying a character. And from what I’ve read a lot of research and care went into the role. No single character can represent every autistic person’s experience, but I think this show does a pretty thoughtful job of showing both the challenges and the gifts that can come with being on the spectrum!

Some general info that'll help for the show, though others who actually live in korea can maybe attest. I believe autism awareness in general is worse in korea and more stigmatized than the US, though I've heard media such as this has helped which is wonderful- also that the good doctor US show was based off of an original korean version. Also, I believe juries in korea don't have the final say? They give a ruling, but ultimately the judge gives the final verdict still- for future episode reference where I was personally confused lol.

Good luck Canon, I also had labrum surgery, November 2025. I'm now playing volleyball multiple times a week and weightlifting 4 times a week. It will be a very slow recovery but just keep steady with it. The worst part is the first week or two. Definitely move that shoulder around as much as you can to retain as much mobility as you can, that was the hardest part to get back with PT. You can hit me up if you have any questions!

14:45 i know i commented this on a previous kdrama at one point lol, but generally when u see rolls like this in korean media its typically going to be kimbap rather than sushi, unless theyre saying otherwise! same delivery system, different ingredients lol - sushi rice is seasoned with vinegar and such whereas kimbap uses sesame oil. the fillings also tend to vary quite a bit as while both can be vegetarian, kimbap typically uses cooked meats whereas sushi often utilizes raw/cooked fish in particular 🙂‍↕️ look quite similar but taste quite different!

I have never seen this kdrama, watching first time with you here. My friend who lives in Seoul said that this kdrama did a lot in terms of raising awareness for autistic people. A lot of people learned how to behave with people with autism and it had positive impact overall. Also she is around 27 here. Cause she was 5 when she was diagnosed and it has been 22 years
