What’s cool about the manga is that, since it was written in the ’80s, the anime creators had to modernize the setting without changing the actual plot. That’s how we got scenes like Shinichi frantically Googling for answers and getting caught with his phone in class. Those moments weren’t in the original manga, but I think they enhance the anime immensely because they’re exactly how a modern teenager would naturally react in that situation.

There’s a live action South Korean show adaptation directed by the man who directed Train to Busan and its on Netflix. Different story, same universe. It’s called Parasyte: The Grey Since the manga was created in 1989, finished in 1994, & had no anime adaptation til 2014, in 2005 I think the rights were bought to get a live action hollywood adaptation made by Jim Henson Studios that the rights expired around 2013. That lead to a bidding war for the rights in Japan and in 2014 & 2015, a Japanese 2-partner live action films were released. There was apparently an old online rumor in the industry that James Cameron modeled the T-1000’s shapeshifting and uncanniness abilites from the parasytes themselves, but I don’t see the timelines match up since the manga were published in America from 1998-2002.

There's a Parasyte live action that came out in 2014 which I don't recommend. But there's a newer parasyte live action called Parasyte The Grey which is critically acclaimed and totally worth watching after you finish this show.

I think that getting caught in class with his phone was migi. Not Shinichi. A diagram of the human body/organs was shown on his screen when his teacher took it. Also he was barely awake while his arm and hand were working by themselves without him even able to see the screen. But yeah, it's honestly pretty dope. Edit - I think I misunderstood your point. Haha nevermind my initial response

I think Shinichi can still experience emotion normally at this point, but he's more objective. He did care about the dog, but after it passed away, he had the objective thought that it wasn't a dog anymore.
