Governments are discouraging people being super obsessed about after-school studies. As a Korean student, I went to cram schools and had tutors, having schedule 8 to 11.

Where's the dad? The dad is living with his mom in the area where the family used to live in when they had a home so he can commute to work to pay for the apartment in Gangnam, the tutors, hagwon, and all other household expenses as dictated by the mom. It is primarily the dads role to provide the financial support and the mom's role to provide the educational and day to day support in traditional Korean households and these roles are strictly adhered to so with that mindset, dad usually has no say in the process.

Hey everyone! Sorry I'm late haha I've been busy visiting with family and also going through my Granny's old stuff deciding what I want to keep or not. It was a bit emotional but I enjoyed visiting with my cousin and Uncles and exploring and talking about all the old precious memories. She was such a treasure. Anyway, I'm excited to watch more peak. I still need to finish the other one too though. I'm a bit behind. Actually on second thought, I'll just finish episode 7 first and then come back to this episode. See you all in a bit... 😅

Yeah it is healing and cathartic especially catching up with a close cousin that you normally don't get to see as often. It felt like old times. It was nice and reassuring that the connection was still strong. I was able to express my feelings and thoughts to her everything that was weighing in my heart. Thank you, Anya! Asian moms always be like that. I had to consult with a psychiatrist cuz I‘ve been acting weird while preparing for the entrance exam. Nothing major, I was just a bit depressed. I was crying all day for no reason and tried to take sleeping pills but failed. Thats when my mom gave up on me. She told me “Its okay. you don‘t have to try hard anymore. I don‘t want you to go crazy so take it easy.” Everything sounds good so far and then she said “I will be content with you getting 4 distinctions out of 6” lol. Funny thing is my mom is the least controlling one in my family. My cousins got worse treatment, borderline abusive from their moms. Kinda sad honestly.

I know yall kept asking about the dad..but if I remember correctly..the mom moved away from their original home and got another home closer to the school because she wanted her son to be a part of the other students. And plus she said something about other med students used to live there as well

I know I am sooo late to this but I wanted to comment as a recently high school graduate the pressure for students in general to get into schools have gotten extremely bad. I am from the U.S. so it's not as bad as what was shown in the episode but this felt so personal to me because of the expectation to make your parents proud. Corruption as well is even worse, I heard a guy talking about how he would make sure his kids got into an ivy just because he knows the director of one since school isn't about education anymore. It's status, connections, and money. Colleges in general are so expensive now and no one talks about how bad the mental effect is on kids to reach those standards. On top of that grades don't cut it anymore so teens are forced to do sports, clubs, volunteer, win a bunch of stuff, even make there own nonprofit to fit high end college expectations. It's exhausting so I feel for the kid in the show and I am glad it's being brought to attention.😣
