28:34 you do have to remember tho, he’s probably close to a hundred pounds heavier than azula was, he’s carrying another person who’s probably also several hundred pounds, he’s just completed a climb up that entire mountain and had to jump boulder to boulder through the sky to get to Taga, he’s up where there’s minimal air to bend to help with his breathing, AND he’s injured and running on little to no sleep. Avatar state feels believable here to me, I have no idea how he’d be able to do it otherwise.

I def don’t think they were nerfed, just unprepared for some of the fights, especially against tagah the first time. Most of the gaang didn’t get much screen time sadly. But it is Aang’s story obviously

Animation was gorgeous and the characters felt pretty faithful. Tagah was a pretty compelling villain too, I think his motivations made a lot of sense. And it was really neat seeing the beginnings of Republic City and getting more lore with the Lion Turtles, a lot of cool connections with the Korra series. I really hope you guys can get around to it, it's a great show. My biggest gripe of this film though was the pacing feeling extremely rushed, almost no scene had any time to breathe.

I just finished watching Avatar the Last Airbender the day before the Aang movie and have yet to start Korra in hopes the Geks will do a reaction! Also Avatar Seven Havens comes out October 9th so would be cool to do that aswell after Korra!

Okay, since so many people are commenting hoping you'll watch Korra, I have to throw in my two cents as well. 😄 I would love it so, so, so, so much (Obsession reference 😋) if you gave it a shot, because honestly... can you ever have enough Avatar content? 😅 That said, if you do decide to watch it, my biggest request is: please don't drop it too early (that's genuinely my biggest fear haha). I think the unnecessary love triangle at the beginning is what turns a lot of people away, and I completely agree that the romance isn't handled particularly well. But beyond that, the world-building, the villains, and so many of the characters are genuinely fantastic. The villains, especially in Seasons 1 and 3, are incredibly compelling. I honestly think you'd love those seasons (romance in season 1 aside lol). And one thing I think is really important is not to compare Korra to Aang. They're such different characters with different journeys. I always feel bad when people call Korra the "worst Avatar"; she deserves a lot more grace than she gets. Anyway, I would be so hyped if you decided to give it a chance! 😊

Korra has flaws but mostly because of the behind the scenes were Nickelodeon only told the creators that they originally wanted 1 season then ok another season and then finally said ok you can have 2 more season. Basically making the writers not have a consistent story line. The animation is top tier and the fights scenes are well done. My list of best season 1. 3rd season 2. 1st season 3. 4th season 4. 2nd season

You guys should watch Korra. It is a different vibe and show. It’s not as cohesive of a story because paramount/nick didn’t respect the shows development and greenlit 1 season at a time. I view it less as a continuation of ATLA and just the story of the next avatar set in the same world. It’s good but not as good as ATLA. The most toxic part of the show is just people comparing Aang and Korra as avatars when they both had different challenges.

I agree about the voices. I get Aang because the og va doesn’t va anymore. But they should’ve gotten zuko, toph, and katara. At the very least zuko because you immediately know that’s Steven Yuen which makes it harder to be immersed and Dante Basco is like THE Zuko voice. Plus Dante is Asian! He’s Filipino! like I just feel Iike the whole Asian representation thing is just a cop-out and it’s just Hollywood productions not respecting actual voice actors and just picking actors to voice because of star power bs or whatever. When it comes to English VA idk why these productions keep picking actual actors to voice characters and not classically trained voice actors.

Team avatar losing against Tagah makes some since the only one with experience fighting airbenders is zuko. If anything I wish the fight between zuko and tagah was little more drawn out like he was the last left standing but it makes sense. Tagah has years of war fighting experience as an airbender probably fighting benders of all the different elements.

The reason Korra’s show lost focus as you put it was because the creators were told it would end after season 1. Sadly this happened after season 2 as well and then was later renewed for s3 and 4🥲 I still adore it and think it’s worth a watch tho

It is not deserved. Half the hate Korra gets is from people that lack media literacy. I've seen so many people with criticisms that aren't even accurate to what actually happened or was said in the show. There's countless examples of people just making stuff up or not understanding at all the thing they're complaining about. People to this day still say the infamous thing that was explained in book 2 is a "retcon" even though it doesn't contradict a single thing said in the og. This lack of media literacy and accurately recalling what actually happened has now even bled into discussions of the og show. The amount of people I've seen talk about something in ATLA that never happened or say something did not happen when it in fact did happen would blow your mind. I'm convinced half the fanbase are larping at this point 🤣

Eh…I couldn’t get past two seasons personally and didn’t really care for either of those seasons. I won’t say it’s a bad show because the animation is clearly amazing, and the story is totally fine, but I couldn’t get into it. I think it was the characters for me. Compared to ATLA where I adored every character, I don’t think I actually liked a single one in Korra. Still worth attempting for any ATLA fan, though, imo

You guys should watch Korra. It's not even close to as good as ATLA and I don't think it's quite as good as this movie, but it is a very good show in it's own right. I would just say that some of it's a bit uneven, season 2 in particular has some rough spots, but it also has some of the greatest moments in the franchise, amazing animation, great action, expands the world and lore in interesting ways, etc. Also you will need to watch it in order to watch the new Avatar series that is coming out soon. I would just suggest that if you do watch it, try not to expect it to be the same as ATLA, it has some major differences even in the tone of the show.

I really enjoyed this, because honestly, I just love this universe in general lol. The animation was beautiful, and yeah, the plot was pretty easy to clock, but it didn't make it any less enjoyable (although a bit drastic; I can see where Tagah comes from). Like many others here, I do recommend a Korra watch!! It gets a lot of hate, but I think it's mostly because of this ONE specific thing; looking past that, season 3 has honestly one of my favorite villains ever. It's quite good!!!! And there's soooooo much set up in this movie for the setting of Korra.

The one thing I disliked about this movie is the same thing I disliked about Korra. It turns into a generic power fantasy in the end. ATLA had those elements but always managed to stay grounded. Korra always tried to 1-up each villain until we got to the super saiyan spirit world power up bs you see here. Tagah was already powerful and knew techniques Aang had never even comprehended. His knowledge was a threat on its own and his reasons for losing his way were valid. The trauma of war was already enough for him to be a compelling villain. Giving him spirit world mind corruption just so they could have a big flashy fight to bring him back to his senses kind of cheapens everything. Just to clarify, I did like the movie. I just disliked that particular aspect at the end.
