bleach tbh is not like most animes, where kubo does not actually give too many backstories for each and every character, which is why i love the show, because it is unique and i fall in love with the characters even before they supposedly get a backstory later on, if you get what i mean (cuz of the way kubo gives them interesting personalities like cannon mentioned about ulquiorra not having feelings which was the whole point of that inoue convo)

I like to think of the pendulum arc as like the inspiration for hidden inventory in JJK. Like the placement of the arc. Introduces characters beforehand to allow them to have mystery and then providing context before it becomes relevant in the next part.

Ulquiorra's so logical! He's trying to find logic in emotions, its very funny I believe the answer is in kaiens speech to rukia about the heart, its not something physical, like an object that you can touch, but the connections with your loved ones, something that's not tangible

I did like the turn back the pendulum episodes, but I did wish we would have gotten one two episodes that show why Aizen got this god complex. Excited to get back into the battle. Yamamoto's fire moment definitely did remind me of Dumbledore as well, Jack.

Was not expecting a call out of my comment at the start. Just to clarify: when I said Tōsen stabbing them started the Hollowification, my theory has always been that he had some kind of drug laced on his zanpakutō that caused the process when it enters the blood stream. I don’t have any clue what it actually was, but the only common denominator between the Vizard is that they all started hollowifying after getting cut. My first read-through, I thought it must have been some kind of air pathogen except I realized it couldn’t be because Aizen and Urahara’s groups didn’t get affected.

pendulum arc also reveals how manipulative aizen is (i dont talk about his zanpakto). in soul society arc, when aizen got to rukia, he told ichigo that urahara got expelled because of some gigai experiments. obviously he wouldn't reveal the truth in that exact time but he also drew urahara as a "coward" with his invention of hougyoku so that's why he hid it in the gigai he gave to rukia. but there is THE question: did urahara really put hogyoku in rukia when she first arrived to karakura OR some other time? aizen and urahara create so many questions in the story and it is necessary to always be on the edge with them lol

pendulum arc also answers why urahara is so mysterious with his lack of explanation and hiding behind the giggles. because when he didn't care to hide what he was doing, aizen used himself against himself. all of aizen's observations (hirako's aurafarming scene), knowing urahara would show up to the hollowfication area etc made urahara a secretive man. behind the hat, we dont see his eyes. behind the fan we dont know what face he is making. aizen pushed urahara to be more cautious about his deeds and doings. pendulum arc is not just lore dump, it is connecting to character traits too

Same! These have been my favorite Bleach reactions so far. They somehow manage to catch all the details pretty well even when talking, a problem a lot of others reactors run into. And for first-time watchers, they are able to pick up a LOT of subtleties that even us long-time fans had to figure out by watching through the series multiple times. Their discussions are on point even when their theories can be quite farfetched.

keep in mind that this is a show most of us watched in our adolescence. it's only natural that they pick up the subtleties that we missed since they are adults. I will give it to them though, the fact that they are mostly sub watchers means they can't afford to not pay attention, and they do good job re-focusing eachother when important dialogue is being spoken and another gek is talking over it .

Hello, number one "Eikichiro Saido" hater here! For anyone wondering, that's the weird NPC shinigami with the samurai hat appearing every now and then. He was created entirely by Studio Pierrot in the early episodes for god knows reason, approved by a weirdo director who is famous for meddling with the canon story of Bleach. I want to point out that the inappropriate scene of him mentioning a child's underwear never hecking happened in the manga. This scene in the manga is purely to show that the collective spiritual pressure of everyone standing above is super strong. So, he's there just to ruin the moment. Thankfully this is the last time we ever see his unnecessary existence...

You guys have to contextualize how peak the Big 3 was during "Turn Back The Pendulum" which debut April 8, 2008. Naruto just finished the Itachi Vs Sasuke battle and Tobi/Madara appears, and One Piece was during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. But Bleach during that arc was probably the most anticipated for everyone, which goes to show how good the backstory of Bleach was.

Just so you guys know how powerful Aizen is he stopped the master of the kido corp with his kido without saying its full incantation. If you notice how big the wall is that aizen created when he blocked that attack compared to Byakuya's kido when he fought espada number 7 and how small his was. Also, the captain commanders release of his sword to trap aizen and them in the ring of fire is what killed those hollows. His spiritual pressure is so strong it killed those hollow 22km away from them.

Soul Society arc is incredible, goated, of course but I genuinely think my fave arc in OG Bleach is the first Substitute Shinigami arc. It's unbelievably well written in its pacing, world-building and character development.. naturally there's the nostalgia factor which is hard to separate completely cos I watched it when it was originally airing but it stands up so well

I love this monologue from Ulquiorra: "Heart? You humans toss that word around like it nothing...as if it's something you can hold in the palm of your hand. This eye of mine reflects everything. There is nothing it can't penetrate. What cannot be seen does not exist. That's what I've always believed. What is a heart? Can it be seen if I rip open this chest of yours? If I crush your skull? Will I find it in there? " Just shows us more about what we already know; he is a cold and emotionless character. He completely rejects Orihime's words and feelings or her "humanity". Any thing abstract or existential is just outright dismissed because they aren't "real" to him. Its striking how "empty" (not in a bad way) he is compared to the other Espadas we've seen. Who are fueled by intense feelings and have emotional responses. Ulquiorra is the complete opposite, he has no ulterior motive or pride/ego.

He literally ruined two crucial moments early on in the show with Rukia and Grand Fisher and here the Geks think he's the one who caused the mini-hollows to evaporate... GREAT pair of episodes and post-ep discussion 🔥the other wrinkle with Urahara's quiet leadership style is that chat he had with Shinji about 'what it means to be a captain', empathy, sympathizing with subordinates, being 'the right vessel'.. then there's the way he approached Orihime before the kidnapping, how he approached Rukia with the gigai, even creating the Hogyoku in the first place.. yet still the Head Captain is trusting him with tons of responsibility because he really is that guy 🗣️

Its so funny to me how hostile you guys are to Kaname Tosen and Gin Ichimaru. Anytime Gin appears on screen you guys groan and say "get that rat out of here" and any time Tosen is on you're like "shut uuuuup". We haven't really got a whole lot from Tosen so far but we do get his mentality of he thinks this is the route to go for long-term peace, war right now for tranquility longer after, and y'all rag on him. Then there's Gin. Everything from his sharp, angular design to the way he talks he just oozes "slimy" and I absolutely love that about him but his mere presence raises all y'all's cortisol levels and it floors me each time. He's so hateable, so obviously bad that having a neon sign above his head pointing down in all caps "VILLAIN" is more subtle and that's what makes him one of my favorite characters in the entirety of BLEACH.

Starting from 216 and going straight to the end of original Bleach we only have 74 canon episodes left, plus the current 48 episodes of TYBW. Episode 49 will air on 10/19 and episode 50, the grand series finale, will air on 10/26. That's a total of 123 episodes across one month and one week, or 24.6 episodes per week (starting tomorrow/monday) in order for them to watch the finale with all of us. Doable but unlikely. 🤔
