9:00 I've rewatched this show several times and can't believe I've never picked up on this "dark side of the North Blue" quote from Corazon. Just when I think I've seen it all, One Piece finds a way to amaze me yet again.

One of the reasons I love Doflamingo as a villain so much is because Oda gave him such a horrifying backstory but it doesn't humanize him at all. It's such an important message that, at a certain point, the victim card just isn't enough and you have be held responsible for your own actions. Cora is the linchpin to that idea, what a GOAT

I love how even though Cora-san wasn’t the strongest fighter or anything like that, he really did have the biggest heart. He was just a normal-ish guy, no crazy physical strength, no OP Devil fruit, he just wore his heart on his sleeve all the time trying to get the kids to leave the Family and helping Law in every way he could. This rewatch really helped me see him again in that way. What a legend

SPOILER….. Whole Cake Island is so different, intense, and SOOOO much fun. It’s honestly one of the most creative arcs in One Piece. I feel like their experience with Dressrosa has been much better thanks to One Pace, so I’m a little worried they’ll struggle with WC’s pacing and overall weirdness 😂 But I genuinely think at least half the couch will fall in love with it regardless!

I was about to comment this!! So beautiful how Law made sure to put him everywhere. His pirate crew name and jolly roger, his tattoos (huge heart in his chest with spikes that resemble the feathers in Cora’s coat). He has clothes with the name “Corazon” on his back, etc. I also wonder if Luffy’s silly nature reminded him of Corazon and that’s another reason why he was drawn to him

I’ve always had this headcanon that Corazon never really got the chance to let all the kindness he had in his heart shine through until he met Law, and I think that’s why you can see him smiling so much once they start traveling together. He literally threw away the life he’d built in the Navy because he realized that his true purpose was to love a little kid as if he were his own and do everything in his power to teach him that he deserved to live. And I love that these are the heroes in Oda’s stories. People driven by their love for someone or something, whose love is so powerful that it somehow makes the impossible happen. And no matter how tragic their endings may be, if you really stop to think about it, they always win

Chapter 766 - Smile Episode 705 This cover is very special, as this was a tribute to Naruto ending. Kishimoto and Oda were considered rivals as they are the authors of the two biggest manga (Naruto and One Piece) in Shonen Jump (at the time), but in truth they are actually very close friends. The Naruto manga ended on November 10, 2014 and this chapter cover was released on the same day! The first letters on the menu say "Thanks for the hard work, Naruto!" And the person behind Nami is actually Naruto! It's also wholesome seeing Naruto and Luffy eat eachothers favorite foods, Naruto eating meat and Luffy eating ramen. Here is Oda talking about this cover: "After the serialization, Kishimoto-san's media editor was my editor before, so when Naruto ended, he and I had an idea of doing something for it. But that editor didn't bring anything. (laugh) I just thought of drawing everything about Naruto in it at that moment. I wanted to draw a ramen shop, and why not hide the info there. If no one found out, I'd tell Kishimoto-san myself, it turned out it'd been soon discovered. (laugh) I planned to hide some Naruto stuff in the main story. However, at that time, it was a flashback about Corazon, Luffy wasn't in that. I thought about adding Naruto's mark in the background, and adding Naruto's cheek marks on Luffy's face. But by the time Naruto ended, the flashback hadn't ended." Fun Fact: In 2013 (during Dressrosa), Oda had to be hospitalized due to a tonsil infection and was out for two issues. Due to this, Kishimoto decided to go and visit Oda to help cheer him up. But when he arrived he was met with complete surprise after seeing Oda never stopped drawing the Dressrosa arc. Here are some quotes from interviews of Oda talking about Kishimoto and Naruto: "When asked about Masashi Kishimoto ending Naruto after 15 years of serialization, he called it "a very lonely time." "Kishimoto-san and I are the same age, and we both had a hit manga in the same era. Being asked to take on a movie project even though I'm a manga artist (laughs), we've both experienced that sort of thing. No matter how long you've been friends with a manga artist, if the level of popularity of your works are different, it's just hard to relate to each other. But with Kishimoto-san, we've been through the same difficulties, and we've worried about the same things, so we can connect when we talk." Even if another manga artist emerges and produces a hit on the level of "One Piece," Kishimoto is still the only manga artist who has the same perspective as Oda. "That's true. Fifteen years of experience can't be matched in a year...Kishimoto-san really seems to be enjoying life after Naruto though (laughs). But in spite of going as far as he has in the industry, he still lends me an ear when I want to vent, and is a great guy to talk to. "Although they were fierce rivals in the manga world, he says they never felt like fighting. "I'm a very aggressive person, but Kishimoto-san just goes with the flow. He's a nice guy. And he was happy for me when One Piece was doing well. I think I sort of take advantage of that personality though." Oda: "I was always aware of Kishimoto's presence when he was a newbie. He can draw very well. To some extent, I felt we may have the same style. Because we're now both at the stance of manga, eventually there'll be a winner and a loser. However, after I've met with him personally, I found he's really a nice and kind man. It suddenly made me think the result didn't matter. I couldn't compete with a man like him. That's what I thought" Oda: "It's wonderful having Naruto as an opponent. The luckiest thing was Kishimoto didn't let me get a complete victory. Actually, I didn't have complete victory in weekly serialization, besides and most importantly, Naruto is more popular than One Piece in foreign countries. Though a part of me was not reconciled to that truth, at the same time, I'm grateful. Because the existence of such a piece of work is one and only in the world."

Doffy's strings are so strong because they're Haki laced. From now on in the story, just assume anyone with a DF and Haki, just used them in tandem. 4. Law's Jolly roger is a homage to both Corazon's final smile and a mockery of Doffy's jolly roger

CONTINUED….. You and I are on the same page! Big mom’s intro song, and Soul Pocus are one of THE best parts of that arc. I literally get chills every time. That arc has the best ending if not one of the best in the show to me. Pudding 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 and Sanjis story and Luffy just being the best captain there is and how brook, nami, carrot and chopper really did their thing! Plus Pedro 😞 I do think they will come around to Big Mom once they see her world and learn more about her but yeah…..they’re not the type of reactors that are into alternative and “different” characters tbh so we’ll see. She might remind them of Moria lol but Big mom is my fave yonko. And she is no joke! I have faith that Jack will do his part!

I don’t know if someone said it or not but to answer your question in the beginning about how they know about the devil fruits it’s because they’re is an encyclopedia of devil fruits ! It’s mentioned I believe in Blackbeard’s backstory. He heard of his devil fruit in the encyclopedia. Sanji also heard of Absalom’s fruit in that book. That’s why people know so many things about devil fruits !!

CONTINUED AGAIN...... My soul pocus friend, beannie!!! It's so nice to see a fellow WCI fan! It hit every heartstring and checked every box for me as an arc and I wanted MORE! I will never understand the hate but it just leaves more for us WCI fans!! I had a similar spiritual journey during my first rewatch! I actually just saw Haylo & Kiss's reactions to WCI and was so elated to see that they LOOOOVED IT. They're actually my fav OP reactors (oops.....yes I double dip) but the boys here have me going through a rollercoaster of emotions (joy, frustration, intrigue, etc) so I like to watch and compare the two experience hahaha I can't wait to comment on WCI with you when the boys get there 🥹

Spoilers... I've always loved Sanji but WCI really shot him up my ranks. Its sad how much Toei disrespects him, when Oda clearly favors him. Honestly, Sanji is Oda's magnum opus of character writing. I love what he has done with him and the amount of build up and development he has gotten. Incredibly layered and well written character. Im sure they will but I really hope the Geks see this throughout the next arc. Speaking of the latest chapter, tbh I was completely shocked, its makes perfect sense for his character, he has always taken incredible risks and alone as well, he reminds of Suzaku from code geass in his sacrificial tendencies but in a way more altruistic fashion. But i just was not expecting that and for him to be feeling that way especially after wci with luffy and some parts of wano. But its just brilliant how he needs to overcome this hurdle to acquire conquerors. Its so beautifully done and meaningful as a opposed to Zoro lol, I still love the guy but Id hoped he would get that same level of development (not to say he is shallow or poorly written).

About how they know about the devil fruits someone already mentioned it, there is an encyclopedia. When a devil fruit user dies the devil fruit powers get passed to a new fruit. A specific devil fruit is always distinct looking. So there must have been many people with the same devil fruit powers throughout history just never at the same time (obvious example Ace then Sabo with the flame flame fruit) so it must have been well documented over the many years. Especially the really powerful ones. Plus df users probably have a high mortality rate than normal folk lolll cz 90% of the time they're always pirates, criminals, navy etc Though there's gotta be a few surprises with rare ones. Maybe the powers are known but not the exact appearance? Like in the case of Kaku

Yeah I'm just sobbing, a specific line next drop will break me and have me crying exactly like my first watch. What an episode, Corazon is genuinely a shining example of a human being, he's willing to do anything, even confront the brother he considers a demon, just for this sick little boy he felt bad for. After rewatching this with you guys, I think this backstory is genuinely the peak of this show for me up until this point. I'm sorry Robin backstory you've been usurped by Cora-san but you're still #2.

Sanji unfortunately gave me the ick during Fishman Island on my first watch😭 I’ve always hated the pervy gag, still love him as a character, but istg Fishman Island was just SOOO bad for me. I think it was the fact that they made him start smelling girls LMAOOO I hated that shit😭 But WCI puts so many of his little moments into perspective and he ended up skyrocketing my rankings (as it should) too haha, and props to Oda for setting everything up sooo early on. He’s so good, I hate him lmao And honestly, I wouldn’t want him to obtain conqueror’s haki any other way. This is probably one of my favorite storylines in OP rn. It’s so beautiful to see a character being written with so much care. He’s fighting for that no.1 spot in my ranking if we’re being objective, but he has Kuma as his opponent so it’s kinda tough for me haha

@beannie I TOTALLY agree that the Geks have changed so much over time while watching OP and other shows (still can't believe how much they love JoJo's, my second fav show lol). Seeing their growth as reactors and how much more open-minded and emotionally invested they've become is genuinely so satisfying! Watching H&K feels satisfying in a completely different way though. They're scary good at picking up on the little details, connecting dots, and really digging into the themes and storytelling. Sometimes they'll catch things or come up with theories that make ME look at a scene differently, even though I already know what's coming 😂 Both are rewarding in their own ways! Also..... KUMA IS MY FAVE!

@beannie I agree, I hateee the pervy “gag” so much, I don’t ever mind him crushing on Robin and Nami or any other women, like giving them special treatment, cooking them food, helping them over the other crew members. But the moment he turns into this weird perverted caricature of who he is, it’s like what are we doing bro, just no reason to do this. I think the main thing is that Oda is a pervert himself and it’s him projecting that onto some of his characters. I’m just so glad he never touched Luffy with that shit. Maybe Sanji’s awakening will change this hopefully even just a little, but I doubt it. I think Oda still holds that 80s-90s manga mindset of male characters being pervs as endearing or charming or whatever. Anyways, Kuma takes the #1 spot for backstories, I think we can all agree with that. He is also in my top 3 characters in One Piece. But seriously episode 1136 is one of the greatest episodes I’ve seen in general and THE best episode of one piece. I still get chills just even thinking about it.
