I really want Alex to start a listed ranking. Start with like, 100 spots and start slotting those books in there.

Sarah Luck

Is this the official episode for the week? Or is this a bonus? (Happy either way just deciding how to dole out my listening)

E

Listen. I looked at 75 houses. I made 13 offers before I got my house. I GET IT. Also, has Mrs. P read/heard of House of Leaves?

Milfshake

This was a wild story. Has Mrs. P heard of The Invisible War by Joe Kassabian? It’s got more of a dystopian future plot and I think Alex might like it.

Pearlmania500

Official pod of the week, book clubs are now canon “too any tabs” episodes 🤠📚✨~ Mrs. P

review_of_academic_reviews

I’ve been saying spooky ooky since the first time I heard Mrs P say it. Additionally, I am a microbiologist and sometimes when I can’t remember the word “contaminated” I just said “covered in oogly booglies” so there is that.

Haven't finished yet but, Alex, you're Jewish, aren't you? Dude! Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur for September holidays.

deviled_bells

This was so entertaining. Great retelling. Thanks for not describing all of the body horror. ..I also was disappointed by the ending. Therapy bills must have been outrageous. Also all the ghosts go away? Even BFF Edie? How sad.

People should listen even if they want to read it. I read " Hide" after the book club and still enjoyed it a lot. That said, here is an episode SPOILER, if Marge had gone to jail, the daughter had the house, and then later discovered it was really haunted, it still wouldn't have settled real from mental break cause the daughter could , genetically, also still have the mental disturbances.

Moth_Goblin

I've bought every single book for my husband who reads these types of books for inspiration for his dungens and dragons and other rpgs he plays. This one sounds promising

Pearlmania500

Omg yes! The fear and grief Katherine might then experience could be explored through the lense of the horror genre. ~ Mrs.P

Pearlmania500

The Horror of the real estate market truly helps this book. I did read house of leaves, His name was dusk suggested it a few years ago. It’s incredible, I could never explain it to Alex tho 😅~ Mrs.P

Nikki Ann

I’ve missed Mrs. P’s book club so much! This was such a weird book lol.

Listening to book club episode tells me to read. I think I could pick up reading again. The issue is, it would consume me. Thank you for book club episode ❤️

Dawn Sinclair

The book wouldve been stronger if it kept with the generational trauma themes - minor spoiler - although while I was listening, I thought the direction of the story was going to be a retale of the Tell Tale Heart, that would've been good too

Anne N

Book club!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marshall Farms

This book started out so well, I enjoyed the fight towards the end. But, the ending absolutely was a miss! It almost ruined the rest of the build up. It felt like a Shamalamadingdong film that botches the ending. Great build up and battle and then.....the plants were the killers!

✨Sparkling Misandry✨

Ok I'm only halfway through but I contend this is more Peter Jackson / The Frighteners energy than hallmark by Stephen King 😆

Babsi ecker

Really enjoyed the book. The twists were so great. I felt invested throughout the whole episode. As always, book club is a great listen

Paige Morgan

Loved this book! Me and BF joked about the “but this house is a great deal” plot line from Hal

Grittys_baby_daddy_Fishbine

Definitely looking this up on libby tonight! And thanks for the shout out I'm glad you both like the name!

✨Sparkling Misandry✨

Sticking by this now that I've finished 🤣 fab as usual, Mrs. P! 4.5 stars, had to knock off half a star because Alex's "tired voice" at the beginning gave me trauma flashbacks to when my kid was a few months old and never slept 🤣

Lauren Jane

I was so excited to see this is a 2 hour episooooode 🥳

Peach

So I listen to the pod in the shower a lot. I’m washing my hair and you said ‘AA coins’ but I heard ‘anal toys’. I thought the book had taken an unexpected turn 🤣

MaisterWizard

I waited till the last two hours of my shift to listen and was too hooked on this book!

Arlo the Average

(Spoiler) I’m surprised the husband’s ghost doesn’t make an appearance considering he also died in the house right before September

Rilesthelion

Hallmark movies with Ghosts: Spirit of Christmas- Human/Ghost Sex on Christmas Eve! 3 Beds, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost- human and ghost go from frenemy to bff and human helps house ghost get with garden ghost who over 90 years didn’t know the other near. Bonus is How Sarah Got Her Wings where she dies and has to get her ex fiancé to fall in love with someone new. All worth the watch Mrs P

Lumpy Space Princess

First though re ghost housekeeper- no need for pay, benefits, vacation, etc. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Ghost housekeepers probably need to unionize.

Seacowofthedesert

The show that Alex is describing that he wished the book was already exists on TikTok. @jakethenpc

al_botwin

I knew Mrs P was going to call her Angeliqua again because whenever I'm reading, whatever I pronounce the character's name as in my head is their name forever lmao it's so hard to say something else after you've called them it for so long in your head 🤣

Morris Fishbein Fan Club

I was listening to this while grocery shopping and misheard the part with Margaret and Elias in the kitchen. I thought it was her husband that was trying to bite her when she was making toast. I was so confused as to why her husband was being violent over toast. 💀

pleasedontletmitchoutlivetrump

Perfect opportunity to have him nagging away in the background "No, let's stay. It's fine. It's only one month of the year. But look at that crown molding, Haallll. Look at my arms, Marge!" 😂

Hjonklike

The hype for book club still remains strong!! 💖💖💖

Hjonklike

Honestly I’m the kind of person that you could tell me the whole plot but I would still want to read it myself🥰

Orange Sassidy

I definitely would not walk with this Elias.

Lauren Jane

ALSO Mrs P- if you made a Storygraph I'd use your to read and read piles like a map to book bliss

Pearlmania500

Never cross a ghost picket line. (It’s like Ley Lines or fairy circles, except I respect them) - Mr P

Pearlmania500

Mrs P told me about this comment yesterday and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. It would have made sense if the basement monster was Hal’s ghost or some other aspect. But no, he’s just dead. - Mr P

Cheynne

Ugh the end just…it was such a good build up but then just sort of went flat. I would have loved if the end it was Marge staring out the window of a psych hospital with Cathrine coming in to talk to her. Maybe have Marge have some drawings of the ‘ghosts’ on the walls or the house, like something….

gentlecomrade

I KNOW SALISBURY BEACH! I spent many a beach day there when I was a kid 🤣 this whole seacoast area is like that, dumping sand in their backyard every year. Must be nice to have enough money where you can buy a house that’s not going to make it to 2050

Deadmansgirl21

Wait did we retire the book club theme song? 🥺

Agirlnamedthom

You realize that Hallmark's haunted house show is just the US version of "Ghosts" 👻 also UK version the girl is so much better and US version Sam is the worst but the ghosts are better in the u.s version than the UK just saying

DingleDangleNootNoot

Wait it's An-Gel-Ink-A???? I thought the Rugrats girl was always Angelica as said by the hosts in this book??

Sydney Zane In The Membrane

Not to be a kill joy, but the manner by which we discuss mental health in media and literature isn’t “trendy.” The idea that the woman isn’t actually succumbing to psychosis and the house truly is haunted isn’t so “2010s.” If anything I think it’s a breath of fresh air to not take the “bi-polar lady with cyclical psychosis kills her husband in the most horrific and violent way possible route. And considering the horrid stigma surrounding mental health issues like these, the fact those disorders don’t even get mentioned during mental health awareness whatevers because it makes people uncomfortable, it’s probably not great to continue to bash the public over the head with depictions of these disorders only in cases of extreme violence and despair. It’s the only depictions they get. Which is why our local hospital is in the middle of a class action lawsuit for abusing their “psychotic” unit patients. Literally holding them against their will and not allowing them to leave. There was even a video uncovered of mental health technicians there slapping a patient as he was strapped in a chair. Because “who are they going to believe.” And I say this with love and as a massive fan. I’m just very passionate about this issue and I hate that the only way those disorders get included in our media is when it can be sensationalized to the point of parody.

Highly recommend this other house horror “Model home” by Rivers solomon

Deafleader

You two should tag team him with it 😈
