Sadly, you are so right about people born in ‘88. (Primary source: me!) One of my favorite songs from Sum 41 is “88” from their Chuck album, named that because it’s 88 bpm, released in 2004, but now some people think it’s sus. (Neurodivergent Tangent: Their album is named Chuck after the Canadian peacekeeper who saved them from terrorists in the Congo when they were filming a documentary on the conflict there to raise awareness.)

I am not a food scientist but I do get paid to make potions (for real). And it is as cool as you think it would be! Things I do know: vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat soluble - so it is possible to get too much of these. The rest of the vitamins (Bs, C, etc.): your body absorbs what it needs and then gets rid of the rest. What I don’t know: if fortification or supplementation has gone overboard in the US. That is a great question!! Rickets!

I haven’t even made it to the end of the episode, just needed to say, as a professional, Doodles definitely have GMO energy. And thanks for pointing out that we have been making GMOs for hundreds of years!

Another problem with GMO is despite the fact they're meant to be sterile, sometimes the genes can escape through interbreeding with wild populations. Say you have a field of roundup-ready greens and then it interbreeds with a close relative that's not used by humans. Now you have a wild population of weeds that round-up can no longer work on. Suddenly you have a new pest that's immune to your poison. Then flip it to plants that make their own pesticide. Sure it may sound good on paper, you're spraying less and your plants still resist pests, but if that gene manages to jump into wild populations, you can end up messing with the ecosystem. We don't know what will happen with these genes when they start experiencing natural selection. Will they expose wild pests to pressures that make them resistant to our pesticides, or will they put excess pressure on pollinators, and end up damaging the local ecology? GMO aren't evil on their own, but you can bet your bottom dollar a corporation does not care about anything but their bottom line, the rest of us can burn if they can make a buck.

Yuppp my issues with GMOs are political/environmental, not nutritional :) but if you try to point this out, people think you're an anti-vax nutjob, lol. Also, when I was a baby my parents adopted a Doberman puppy who had rickets! He recovered and became a 100 lb beast who was still sweeter than any Yorkie I've ever run into 😆
