They don’t get in the pool for couple of reasons. makeup and hair, then sound and lighting. Lighting people to look good when in a pool (especially people of different skin tones) is advanced skill, the audio stuff requires longer range targeted microphones or water proofed ones, and then advanced filtering/barriers/cleaning. Also pool is probably more exposed and gets more breeze which sound and hair both hate.

I usually get my news in podcast form. I know they’re biased, but I listen to a couple different ones, and usually it serves as a prompt for me to look deeper into things. For instance, if I hadn’t heard about people tracking ice flights on it could happen here, I would have never known to go learn how to track them. I also keep tabs on the nonsense my grandparents consume by never missing an episode of knowledge fight. When I need fresh perspective, I’ll read foreign news sources. When I was a poly sci student, I got alerts from 15+ news outlets and that was way too much.

I work in accounting and had to explain to our CFO why someone would have a PO Box as their address because he was saying he wasn’t going to pay the guy cause it seemed sketchy. Basically I had to explain to this rich asshole that poor homeless people exist and it’s fully legal for them to use a PO Box as an address to work and get paid. Oh Alex... Lincoln, NE is the state capitol! Omaha is just the largest city in our state. And fun fact about Omaha, is that it makes up the majority of Nebraska's 2nd congressional district. Nicknamed 'the blue dot' b/c the NE constitution allows for the splitting of electoral votes and a higher concentration of liberal voters, Omaha will often appear as the sole blue district surrounded by a sea of red. (Which will always be insane b/c land doesn't vote, people do! And yes, state republicans are constantly trying to amend the NE constitution to take away vote splitting, cowards.) Also, you only scratched the surface of the Pete Ricketts iceberg. After serving 2 gubernatorial terms and barred by Nebraska's term-limits law from running for reelection; Ricketts was succeeded by fellow republican Jim Pillen on Jan 5, 2023. On Jan 8, 2023, NE U.S. Senator Ben Sasse resigned from the senate to accept and become the president of the University of Florida. On Jan 12, 2023 Pillen, (who you'll remember had succeeded Ricketts as governor only one week earlier,) appointed Ricketts to the senate. Ricketts's appointment was controversial, as he had financially supported Pillen's 2022 gubernatorial campaign. Pillen denied this had any role in his decision to appoint Ricketts. Ricketts was sworn in on Jan 23, 2023. Upon his appointment to the senate, he announced that he would run in the 2024 special election to serve the remaining two years of Sasse's term and he did unfortunately win with 62.6% of the vote. The "odd one out" concept is totally stolen from the Mafia and Werewolf games popular in the early 2010s, but it sorely misses the best concept made from those games. Someone posted this idea on Tumblr like 13 years ago. Big Brother style house, 12 guys living together. 11 are gay, 1 is straight, they have to figure out who the straight one is. Twist, they're all straight, so it's just 12 straight guys acting out their best approximation of "a gay guy" and trying not to be suspicious. I still really want to see this concept. Jubilee just went for the same homophobic vibe from middle school and high school.

I watched a few of the common ground ones when they were their big pull because I try in my real life to talk to other people like that, but the surrounded ones are so much. No one could even have a good conversation if they wanted to. (Not that most of them want to.) After Destiny's he had a conversation with one of the people who was in the circle and they pretty much killed any thought I had that people would want to have a real conversation about things because the guy pretty much said that someone who was going to be on the episode set up a group chat of people who were going to be there and they planned how they were going to debate him on topics. Even that guy was like "it didn't feel right going about it that way."

As a German living in Ireland I always have an outsiders perspective to these things and see it as a snippet of what social discourse is gonna be like in the rest of the world. Looking back at the elections in Germany early this year Twitter and the eco chamber he created had a massive influence there and as someone who barely uses twitter I was quite surprised how openly fascist people are on the platform. I was especially surprised since we learn so much about why that shit is bad and in secondary school it is mandatory to go to a tour of a concentration camp. Here in Ireland we have a show called eating with the enemy which has the same idea of „provoking understanding“ but does it a bit better in my opinion as it is only 2 people at a time and you have actual fact checking and psychologists working on that show.
