I was under the impression that Surry approached Kapoor about exclusive rights to Vanta Black. He didn’t buy it. They just won’t make art for anyone else with it. The industrial process to apply it is too expensive and time consuming.

I was so excited for this week's topic! I've been following this feud for awhile and loved hearing the loredump of it all. Not only is he the petty queen of the art world, Stuart Semple does actual amazing things for his local communities. In 2019 I bought a limited edition gift pack of pigmants for my BFF (Shout out to Tracie Houston, another PearlManiac) and all proceeds from those gift packs went to his neighborhood community center to sponsor art supplies and art programs for kids or something along those lines. Class act this guy.

I love all the topics just to hear u guys but i need another ancient history episode from mr.p like plebs by proxy. That was so intresting to me, tyco brahe was a good one also. Maybe eastern ancient history??? Ghengis? Or a combination like how derinkuyu in turkey was "rediscovered" and the known history behind it. Doesnt have to be these of course, just examples. I love hearing alex talk about ancient history and his modern twist.

I love this topic! I have a bunch of culture hustle paints and they're my GOOD art supplies! My sibling gave me a set of "color-iest colors" for Christmas and I felt so seen, but I've used Black 2.0 and it's amazing and smells like cherries! One of these days I'll upgrade and get black 3.0 and I have my eye on Pinkie.

I accidentally came across this feud sometime in early 2019, I think, and have been devoted ever since. I have the glitteriest glitter! Literally just an Irving Mainway Bag'O Glass but it looks so cool. And yes, you do need gloves. That shit is DANGEROUS but lent just the right little SOMETHING to my psychedelic memorial painting of my favorite weird uncle. <3 I also have the Glow and eventually I'll get the chrome and the rainbow hypercolor magic stuff. He makes really good products and they DO smell like cherries, or in some cases, bananas, so weird!

I know this episode is OLD old but it was one of the first ones I listened to where I actually knew a lot about this lore. It was a hot topic when I was in art school and I've bought black 2.0 and now I have black 4.0. it's very cool to have but I have an issue with my art where when I get a finite amount of a VERY cool medium, I'm too scared to use it 😅 so I haven't done much with it but I did paint a cool rock I have with it and it looks so velvety and cool. It doesn't hide the rock ridges unless it's low lighting, but still cool. I also have the mirror paint and some UV powder I can make into paint. Haven't used either yet for the reason listed above 😅

My kindle may or may not be named “Mom’s Cliterature” 😇. Also rich people’s art sucks because most of it is just a way to launder money and no one cares what it looks like. Also Pantone is a scam. You have to buy their books that costs the same as a car, and they “expire” every 2-3 years. I paint a lot and there are better color books that use CMY or RBG color notations that are much better. I get using Pantone if you need a very specific color for legal reasons but even then, it’s overrated and over priced. And the Pantone color of the year hasn’t been the same since 2022 either. I mean this year it’s white. Also just so you know, most of the glitter in the US is made in 1 factory, and their biggest customer who buys more than half of their glitter by the ton? The US military.

As someone who goes through Costco sized Pepto Chews on a regular basis, I am so glad to hear the Pepto fact. My dentist and I could not figure out what the fuck was going on with my teeth staining and I thought it was because I ate too many dark chocolate Costco muffins. It's totally charcoal.
