Media Maker. Create Newspapers, tabloids, and whole websites! (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone!
This is a bit of a messy post. I didn't really know how to structure it properly since so much has happened, but I'll try to be as coherent as possible.
High Quality Prep has been split into two modules! The first module, Opening Crawl, remains available in the original High Quality Prep post. I honestly don't know why I didn't do this earlier and instead decided to lump Opening Crawl and Newspaper Maker together.
Either way, you must now be wondering about Newspaper Maker and this so-called Media Maker. Well, they're one and the same! Newspaper Maker has evolved and can now also create websites that players can browse using the Game Computer module (and it might evolve even further in the future!), so I decided to change its name!
I'll be submitting the module to Foundry for official release, so expect the files here to disappear in a couple of days in favor of automatic downloads through Foundry! In the coming weeks, I'll also be posting an overview video to replace the static images you currently see!
Now, for the sake of clarity, I'll go over the module's features below, although many of you may already be familiar with them.
What is Media Maker?
Media Maker
Media Maker is the evolution of what used to be Newspaper Maker (High Quality Prep). It still does everything the old module did, but now it’s a full in-world media creation suite. Newspapers, websites, and everything your players might find on a screen or in their hands.
Newspapers
Create great looking newspaper handouts in modern, fantasy, or cyber screen style, all inside Foundry. Choose from premade layouts, customize text and images, reposition elements freely, and let the scribble effect fill any fields you don’t want to write. Multiple pages, full-screen editor, and selective delivery to players. If you used High Quality Prep before, all your papers migrate automatically.
Websites
Build full 90s-era websites your players can browse on the Game Computer. A free-canvas editor with 16 block types: text, images, tables, navigation bars, marquees, visitor counters, download links, badges and more. Every site gets its own layout, fonts, colors, and background. Position blocks anywhere on the page or let them flow vertically. Multiple pages per site with working internal links.
The module ships with hundreds of era-appropriate graphics (dividers, bullets, buttons, and icons) that you can drag straight onto your pages from the built-in library. If you’ve ever seen a 90s Geocities page, you know the vibe.
Download blocks can carry their own text content, so when a player downloads a file from a website it opens readable in Notepad on the Game Computer. No need to attach external files.
AI Import
Both newspapers and websites can be generated from a single CSV file. Hit the “Copy AI Instructions” button, paste it into any AI (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.), describe what you want, and the AI builds a CSV that populates your papers and sites in one import. Re-importing updates existing content instead of duplicating it. The instructions adapt to your current setup so the AI knows every block type, layout option, font, and graphic filename available.
What changed from High Quality Prep?
The website builder and AI import are new. Everything else you had before (newspapers, player inventories, selective delivery, cyber screen pages, the editor) is still here and works the same way. The module ID changed, but your existing data migrates on first load. The computer simulation side (files, emails, desktop) is now its own module called Game Computer.
Media Maker: GifCities (Patreon exclusive and highly recommended!)
A companion add-on that puts a search engine over the Internet Archive’s GifCities collection right inside the graphics library. Browse them in pages, click one, and it downloads into your own library. The AI import can use it too: the AI writes and the module fetches the gif automatically while building your site, with an optional Variety mode so it surprises you with different picks. It puts the Internet Archive’s GifCities collection right inside the graphics library: nearly 100,000 real GeoCities-era gifs, searchable in-app, and every gif you pick downloads straight into your own library.
This add-on won’t be on Foundry’s listing, it stays right here as a perk, and it needs Media Maker to run.
